Info & Help Wanted: [<( The Star Wars Trailers Project )>]

 (Edited)

As a companion volume to SKot’s commercial project, I’m putting together a DVD of trailers and commercials for the theatrical and video/DVD releases. I’m aiming for this collection to be a wealth of information about the trailers, including release dates of the trailers and if possible what films they were released with. And since the prequels aren’t as warmly received as the old trilogy, I’ll be dividing the disc in two parts, so there will be something for everyone.

I’ve got a bit of these, but I am missing some. This is where I need your help.

Easter Eggs
(These are a surprise. Not telling!)

So I ask, am I missing anything? Note that I am just focusing on the movies themselves. I'll probably have lots of space for easter eggs on the disc, so if you have a recommendation for something for me to hide on the disc, send me an email to my hotmail.

The are a couple of different Trailers for the video releases here in the UK. From memory there is at least one great one (I liked it anyway), from the original widescreen releases.

"So you think you've seen the whole of the Star Wars legend on video?..... Well think again!"

Have you got that one already?

Yes, definitely. I do need more items from across the pond. I've also got a 1977 spot for Kreig der Sterne that I'm adding yo the list. I'm also looking for a good copy of the 1987 Star Wars Trilogy VHS Box Set Ad “10th Anniversary”.

I have a few trailers that you might be interested in for use as easter eggs or some such as they all seem to be fan edits.

The two South Park parody traliers for TPM.
A trailer advertising the six movie boxset using footage from the first five movies.
A sepia coloured trailer (in the style of the B-movies from days gone by) titled: Benjamin Kenobi - Space Knight. (This one is actually really cool)

Let me know if you want them and I'll upload them.

You bet! I'll take all I can get. I'm thinking about actually having a parody trailer gallery hidden as an easter egg.

There's four trailers in one 115mb rar file. It's on my own webspace, so it shouldn't take too long to download. Can you post here (or PM me) when you've got it, so I can delete it.

Thanks.

I can cap that off VHS if required. There were two "widescreen - as they were meant to be seen" trailers - one for the Star Wars trilogy, and the other for Alien and Die Hard.

Sluggo, I found another Special Edition trailer to add to the list. It's a TV spot for the SE release of ESB plus "still in theaters" Star Wars. You can actually find this on ocpmovie's Special Edition Hype disc as one of the commercials that can be watched separately.

I suspect there may have been more than just that one TV spot for the SE, but I don't know for certain.

SKot, I'll check it out shortly. And Moth3r, a cap would be great. Unless a digital source pops up soon. So that's a Yes/Maybe.

Try the link now. There was a minor spelling error in the filename, but it's fixed now

Got it, thanks!

One of the things I'd like to put in is information on what movies these trailers were screened with. Wing Commander, anyone?

I believe it was from 1991 (Russ the VHS release expert will be able to confirm), so I doubt that a digital version exists.

I assume you would prefer it at NTSC framerate?

My vote would be that it would make a great easter egg, but it should definitely not be on the main feature.

That's what I was thinking. Honestly, parody trailers are a time a dozen. Even I made a parody trailer. And they are all of the Phantom Menace. Clones was way more deserving of a parody trailer.

Not sure if these were on your list, but in Fall 1977, when SW's release was being widened (or re-promoted), several Friday night TV spots appeared, the first of which was the opening blockade runner/star destroyer shot WITHOUT MUSIC, only SFX. I have audio of these.

It would be good to check that audio against the TV spots that we have on the list already to see if they're the same or not. I'm at 'skotk at hotmail dot com'; you can contact myself and/or Sluggo if you want to send it over to one of us.

These would definately be interested to hear. I wasn't planning on having radio ads, but I do have a set with radio ads on them (I can't remember which one it was), so it is a possibility.
