media junkiewelcome! to the thread that made me a fanediter. with the help of the members of originaltrilogy.com I i soon learned what that really meant. it is a fun hobby and without this site i might never have learned how to edit properly. below you will find out some of the frustrations i went through and who helped me to solve those problems.

Sounds great! I recently found the QtheGaijin edit but was disappointed by the dead surround channels and the video quality, but appreciated having the extended O-Ren sequence and being able to watch the film in one shot. Looking forward to checking out your edit!

media junkiehehe yeah same here guys i grabbed that edit about 3 weeks ago started watching it and stopped soon after when i saw the video i think the problem was mostly that i could not find his dual layer release. it just didnt work on 4.3 gb. i spent the whole day working on authering the dual layer disc and its almost done. i too have run into a disc space problem. the initial edit i finished looked flawless. but i had set the kbps too high in womble and ended up with a copy too big for a dl disc.after rerunning the encode i got it down too a usable size but with a noticeable reduction in quality however it still was a great improvement over gaijin.s 4.3 gb copy.i am still working and considering the best ways to bring the quality up to my expectations.its hard to judge between video quality and special features. lol i wanted everything on it. but will have to sacrifice a few things i think to make it fit. i will update again tomorrow as it is close. thanks for the interest.

I have the DL release, and unfortunately it still isn't that good.

IMHO, I'd say tip the scales away from special features, since to download your fanedit we should own the official releases with all of their bonus features already (unless you're planning new ones of course).

media junkiewell i am rendering my first edition out of dvd architect as i write this. i spent mad hours authoring the dvd. first time user of architect with too many ideas and a 3.9 hour movie. lol i have high hopes but we will see if this is the edition i release. i will not release a sub par version of kill bill.it has been quite a learning curve.the worst part was figuring out how to place the chapters in it. oh wait i take that back the worst part was when the software crashed and i lost about 5 hours of work because i forgot to push the save button! as far as the features go i added the bill kicks ass scene. and both of the live music performances. this disc you can pop in and have all day kill bill fun. however if the video quality is not good the features are gone. right now i am just happy to have a brake from it while it renders. my head is spinning. one way or another the release is coming soon.

Sorry, I have zero editing/authoring knowledge (I'm more of a consumer unfortunately). I hope you get it figured out, and we appreciate your hard work on this project!

media junkiei could really use some help here. i have been trying to figure out a solution other then using 2.0 audio i dont want to use another authoring software that will not be as good. i have spent much time authoring this movie in dvd architect and the menus are very nice. i think my problem may have come from not editing the video in vegas. i used womble for its easy interface. i have vegas but i dont understand vegas at all. and i have heard the rendering looks like crap. what can i do here to get it authored in dvd architect with 5.1 ac3 audio?

aka PancakesI don't know anything about Vegas, but it's been my experience that it's easiest to split the 5.1 AC3 into six mono WAV files (being sure to label them L, C, R, Ls, Rs, and LFE, so you don't lose track of which channel is which), edit using those, then render the finished audio out as six mono WAV files, which you then combine into an AC3 file once again.
I can't help you much beyond that, 'cause I use a Mac and don't know squat about transcoding and video editing on a Windows platform.

media junkiethanks for the reply ash! yeah i have gotten this far already. figured out how to convert 6 channel wave and have that in vegas ready to edit. where i am stuck is in the subtitles for non english parts. i think my best solution is to hardcode the subs into the video pre vegas editing. just need a good way to do that and maintain descent video quality. thanks again.

I've been rendering test clips out as an AC3 (i.e. letting Vegas do the combining of the six mono WAV files) and it seems to be working so far. But I have not tried out DVD Architect yet.

aka PancakesWell there you go, that makes that part much easier than I thought it'd have to be. As long as Vegas preserves the correct order of the six tracks upon export (L, C, R, Ls, Rs, LFE, if I remember correctly, though I may have Ls and Rs mixed up), that should work just fine.

Ointment FlyIIRC you have to assign a channel to each wav file (front, center, rear, or sub) when you import it. And I think you also have to pan the front and rear tracks to create left or right.
Or there might be an easier way. I'm a relative noob in Vegas. And I'm using Studio, not Pro, and I think there are some subtle differences.

media junkieyou are correct tv,s frink that is what i did. the problem now is that even though i am using the uncompressed ac3 5.1 audio to create the 6 wav files after i add the video the sync is off. and it would appear the video length and the audio length are different.. not sure if that matters since i will be trimming the credits anyway. i hope we can come to a truce on our disagreement because i would like to share my efforts with the members of ot.

media junkieok rehash. the first attempt with womble as the video editor was scrapped due to the fact that dvd architect would not take the ac3 audio that went with it. truth is i could extract that audio convert it to wav and export it from vegas back to ac3 and be done with this edit because the womble edit was not nearly as bad as the other kill bill edits i have seen.but that would be to easy. nope being the media freak that i am i am starting over with the edit in vegas. because the easy way is not usually the best way.update pending.

media junkieno really tv,s frink good burn though. couldnt of done it better myself im proud....... i am putting the possible release of this edit somewhere around 2 weeks from now. i am researching and working as it go,s along but i am now held back by waiting for a new source for volume 2. i have decided to use the japanese edition of both volumes for the entire edit so the plans for bluray sources were changed. after all the encoding down to dl size of the bluray,s the only thing that looked different from the dvd sources was the bluray film grain/snow. so the dvd copy,s will actually look better. one thing i can promise is the final product will be higher quality then the previous releases. on another note i also picked up a copy of fist of the white lotus dvd. just in case i decide to use it. or maybe i could do something entirely different with it. if any killl bill fans have suggestions on anything i am listening. like creating the intermission that qt mentioned or whatever something to set it aside from the previous fanedit,s its all about having fun and making a truely awesome movie even better. laters guys.
