^ That part was so stupid. The duel had been pretty good (not great) until this point.
Happened to have a dance-y song on as I saw this. Trippy.
It's up there with this other classic.

Or like that other scene with the Space Bazooka, where the stuntman makes a jump after the shot, rather than being propelled by the shot itself.... oh wait, that was another mov-

Thats easy to explain, the green heat of the lightsaber was getting close to the gun and made the sparks.

And you'll have to forgive me for "already said in this thread" moments. I don't read hal posts very closely, if at all.
Actually (literally) it was from a well respected member of this board. No, not bkev, but Bingowingo: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/anothe-example-of-lucas-changing-things-to-appeal-to-a-new-generation-lightsaber-dueling-styles-of-OT-vs-PT/post/458520/#TopicPost458520
Am I well respected yet? I've made some witty posts! And I think Frink likes me!
Alas, 'tis not for this one to decide. If so, would you think Bkev would "well respected" considered be?
(just kidding bkev. You're 18 a man now.)
IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM
"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

what bothers me is the OT duels at least had a sense of realism to them where the PT was nothing more than 2 hr long power ranger episodes.

They were overly flashy and didn't have much logic to them, I agree with that. A Jedi should be able to hold his own in a duel while conserving as much energy as possible, which would be accomplished by only striking or defending when necessary. Doing unnecessary flips and twirls ruins that, and makes the Jedi look ridiculous.
But Power Rangers? Come on.

...Ya'll say that like it's automatically a bad thing. I'll leave you to your opinions so long as you hear me out.
Power Rangers has over 700 episodes. You honestly think there's no way that there's zero quality in there?
Bay's Transformers has over 2 movies.

You understood correctly. The number of episodes is generally related to how much money is made, not how good something is. Excellent shows get cancelled all the time. And yet America's Funniest Home Videos lives on.

While I agree quantity does not mean quality. It also means that even something done with most people behind it trying hard could fall down to ridiculousness with so much done. I mean even Star Trek has the Voyager Threshold episode. Hell someone non-Star Wars fan but, curious might watch Jar Jar clips because, they heard somewhere that the writer/director/creator guy said "Jar Jar's the key to this(Star Wars)." Assume that's all Star Wars is about and, decide not to waste their time with actually watching any full Star Wars movie.
If you actually watch at the very least the first clip I posted there's an assassination attempt and, a power ranger battle in 3:11(as in that's all you have to watch a little over 3 minutes is the full clip) of the clip. I ask you to compare that to the ROTS clip I posted and, the assassination attempt on Padme in AOTC. Tell me truthfully which one seems more realistic?
I watched the first clip and thought it was terrible. Bad music, bad acting, and some seriously awful costumes (especially the dog).

This thread is about the fights. I was comparing the fights specifically. Yes there's better music and, costumes in the prequels I won't deny that. However, what do you think about the comparison of that fight to the ROTS fight right below it?![]()
There's crap in the ROTS fight, no question. But the PR fight is very simplistic. Basically guy turns around and shoots other guy. Where is the comparison?
And anyway, my specific comment re: Transformers was with regard to your comment that there are over 700 episodes and thus there must be some quality involved. I just don't see that argument here.

LOL. I'd never viewed it that way before....
Also, a comparison between Power Rangers and the PT - where Power Rangers comes out looking better - is kind of proving haljordan's whole point, I think.

Magister Pontifex MaximusPower Rangers had very low production values but those scenes resemble more a city under siege and a population in peril than Theed in TPM.
Nice comparison there.

LOTR 2 attempted to make us care about the women and children in Helm's Deep; the Matrix sequels did the same (that is, 10 times more) with Zion.
In both cases, I'm not sure whether leaving that out would've been a better option.
Can't say I cared much about the people on Theed - it was a McGuffin both for the movie, its main characters, and Palpatine. The movie should've had some other focus than this side plot, but as such, I didn't feel any need to see scared children or prison camps.
