a possible Thank You letter to Lucas

Now, I'm on everyone's side here when it comes to cutting Lucas no slack in disrespecting the original theatrical releases of the Original Star Wars. There's no excuse for that, and I believe the guy deserves every reasonable criticism aimed at him for keeping them off the shelves in an anamorphic format.

Yet when I watch The Clone Wars series trailer, I can't help notice that it looks plain awesome. I'm giving it a chance, that's how much I was moved by the trailer. We have an Anakin Skywalker MUCH closer to what I imagined before Hayden Christensen, Y-Wing predecessors, we have the light-speed starfield back, and this looks like the a mix of humor that can both appease hates & lovers of the prequels: my big grin came from when Grievous slapped the battle droid off-screen. Star Wars isn't about politics. It is about sci-fi fantasy excitement and escapism, and I'll be so bold as to say I believe this series may have captured that (we'll wait and see for SURE).

If this Clone Wars series turns out to be widely accepted among us (or just me for that matter), I'd like to propose a Thank You letter signed by its fans to Lucas & team for, you know... actually getting something RIGHT.

He's been our enemy all these years, and maybe we can open up to showing appreciation where it's due. Making your enemy your friend, so to speak, would be a better tactic than sending disapproving letters in THIS case.

Who is interested?

I'm with you on the trailer. I think it looks pretty bloody good, and really looking forward to seeing the whole thing. (mmm...I seem to remember having this feeling after seeing The Phantom Menace trailer for the first time..mmm) Just hope it lives up to it's promise.

So, if any good, I'll sign your little letter.

Wait until after the first season at least. Like Hotrod said, that trailer for The Phantom Menace was fantastic, it gave me chills the first time I saw it it was so cool. Then I paid money for a ticket and...

As for Janskeets TF.N comment. Come on man, there is no need for that, that is what sets us a cut above the rest. You and I can express our dislike for GL, LFL, the SE, the PT, the vast majority of DVD releases, and the poor quality of releases all we want here without getting flamed or even band. We don't want to spin it the other way around and become mirror opposites of the other places by indimidating anyone who likes the PT. I have great respect for people enjoy the PT and who have an optomistic outlook on the future of SW, I don't have to share that optomism, but I don't have to make comments to make them feel unwelcome either. Not trying to get on you buddy, just something to think about.

Please understand, I was never a fan of the prequels, and I am optimistic about certain things in the Star Wars future.

Good to see there are people left with open minds!

I agree with Hotrod. Wait a bit and see how we feel. If I'm satisfied then I'd be willing to sign on.

It may not do any good, GL seems quite out of touch these days with what the fanbase want, But let's see how things pan out, eh?

Don't take skyjedi seriously, I think he doesn't even read the previous posts before he makes his.

The Star Wars you see today is not the Star Wars I grew up with, and I am fine with that, it is just a memory now, something that glimpses of can be seen by peering into boxes stored away in my basement, and that recollections of can be shared with people who grew up with it in a similar was to myself, like many of the people on this board. What more could I ask for?

No thanks.  But I'll sign a thank you letter when he releases the OOT completely remastered in anamorphic widescreen on either a DVD or Blu-ray disc.  Until then, Lucas will get no thanks from me.

I don't care how good the Clone Wars TV series turns out.  Until we get the OOT properly released, he deserves no thanks.

Ditto.

My thanks was shelling out money on toys and comics when I was growing up.  I don't think the man's ego need any more feeding.

So, if someone doesn't give you exactly what you want, you don't see any reason to thank them if they give something else that's good? That's incredibly selfish. I'm not saying the series is going to be good, but if it is, then I see no problem with thanking the person responsible for it.

You see what Sluggo posted above you?  That's my thanks.  You should see my house.  I have a lifesize ESB Yoda.  I have a Luke Skywalker Force FX lightsaber.  I have tons of toys.  I gave plenty of thanks to Lucas from 1993-2005 with all the books, comics, toys, and collectibles I've bought.  How has he thanked me?  By slapping me in the face and changing the originals to match his "vision", a vision that has been constantly changing since at least 1997 (see Greedo shooting first).  By releasing the OOT (not the SE) on DVD from a freaking laserdisc master.  He has treated the movie that gave him great success, gave many kids and adults years of entertainment, and pushed plenty of people to go into the movie business, like dirt.

He has treated the OT fans like garbage and I see no reason to thank him until he starts giving us the respect we deserve.  We put him on the map.  We gave him great success (we all payed plenty to see Star Wars back in the day).  He has given us nothing but heartache since 1997 (a little bit at a time so it wasn't to noticeable).  He doesn't deserve a thank you for making the Clone Wars good because everything else that got us to that point has been pissed on.

If someone pissed on your face, shit on your head, and then told you that everything you loved may as well be gone (Lucas has said the OOT is dead to him), would you then thank them if they offered you a new car?  I know I certainly wouldn't.

I will thank George with my wallet when the OOT is given a respectable release. No other thanks are necessary (much less appreciated).
