Idea: a Yellow Submarine edit - a proposal

I’ve been kicking around the idea for years, and now finally have a little time.

I grew up with the original VHS release, then I got the 1999 DVD, and was blown away by the added scenes, but noticed scenes missing. Now I have the the BluRay and I want to add the alternate animation back into the film.

I also would like to try to add a psychedelic background behind the live action at the end, that they said they always intended.

I considered trying to get the 4:3 ratio, but I see that the original VHS is slightly cropped on the sides and the BluRay is cropped on top and bottom. Also, the color palettes are very different, especially during the extremely psychedelic ending.

Any thoughts?

The original Laserdisc release would be a better source for the "Beatles to Battle" footage. Not sure if the cropping is a the same as the VHS master.

16mm prints have turned up on Ebay on occasion, but like anything remotely Beatles related, the prices get kind of steep.
