Let me see if I can dig up my tapes after July 4th.

I recently bought a set of bootlegs off of e-bay, but the quality is nearly unwatchable. However, I am currently trying to design some cover artwork for them. I don't know if there's anything I can do to help, but just let me know.

If only someone had bothered to scan in the X-Men animated series comics like they do all the others on the newsgroups. All of it was in the cartoon style following the show storylines fairly well.

I found both tapes, I ripped them, and then found out the DV tape in my digital camcorder is dead. Dang. So I'll go find another DV tape and do it again. Look fairly good and only a few tracking scratches on the video. I am also trying to locate my old X-men tapes which I used to record the show off of FOX so many years ago. It may have some commercials and so forth (not in great quality but they may be of some interest).

Too bad the released X-men animated dvds didn't come with anything. The Pheonix Saga's video looked nice for five episodes.

Andrew The Great: you probably have the same set we have, a bunch of VCDs thrown in a DVD. Anyway, so you are creating artwork for the set you bought, eh? You can help a lot by creating the covers and menu artwork for us. I can upload several pictures and scans of the VHS tape boxes if you want .

guiltyspark: thanks a lot for the VHS captures, but if it's not too late I'd like to ask you to captire with a lossless codec (I recommend Lagarith in YUY2 mode) and send me that if possible. That way we can get the best quality out of it .

anybody ever consider editing all the dark phoenix episodes together to make a movie more in line with the comic book unlike X-3 the last stand which took too many liberties. and i have heard that some fan editor's are going to take a stab at that one when it is released. I don't see how they can re-create the chris claremont comic without the footage though, using comic scans for the unfilmed missing scenes?

Hello,

I'm new here and this place looks great. This show is one of my all time favorites. I also bought a set on ebay awhile ago and made my own custom covers. When this project is done I would love to have a set and I could supply you with a set of the covers. The progress on this looks fantastic. Keep up the good work!

Dude, I registed on the forums for this DVD. I may not be able to help you out that much, but I'll sure cheer you on.

Hey Bishop, what was the original source for the Sentinal and Juggernaut pictures before you added the character screencaps to it?

Hi,

I just found those pics during a google image search. They were high enough quality to where I could use them. Not sure what comic they came from. Sorry.

I did this one using an animation cel of the sentinel (same cel used on cover 3) and placed it over the original image and photochopped it together. Turned out pretty cool. Also, none of pics are screencaps except for the three pics on the back covers. They are all animation cels.

Wow, some of those look amazing. By the way, I'll be posting some comparison screenshots of the work I'm doing with the X-Men Anime intros from YouTube .

[edit]guiltyspark, what's the status on those Pizza Hut tapes?

Does anyone have or can find the "Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters & Marvels" and cut a vov with the "Here Come the Heroes" movie?

I have a copy of both the Pizza Hut tapes and it may be possible to put them on DV tape, but It all depends on if I can borrow a camera.

BSherrod: I'd rather have them in a lossless format like Lagarith if possible. If you don't know how to do it, PM me and I'll tell you how. By the way, you can also help by hunting the net for subtitles, pictures and music every now and then.

Everyone: here are the results of a preliminary filterchain on those anime intros

Well I downloaded and burned the Season 1 DVD that's available on myspleen already and I must say that I was somewhat impressed for a first release. Sure they're could be some polishing here and there, but it was a good quickie season watch. The quality of the video looked ok, maybe above VHS on my 55" inch LCD HDTV. A lot of the farther away shots had lots of pixelation and I hope that your new "restoration" method can help that. I'm really interested to see these in maube short clip form, just to get an idea of what it will look like and I'll help hunt down stuff for you. I'm sure you've vistied these sites:

DRG4's Site

ToonZone's X-men site, loads of info

Hey Byakko, glad to see the anime style intro will be included, you've done a great job clearing up the pic by the looks of your cap. I've still had no joy with the hunt, but somthing could turn up you never know. Keep up the good work!!!

Byakko, how is the quality of the TV rips compared to the VHS and DVD rips your making? I mean most of the ones recorded off Toon Disney don't look that bad after I watched them on a regular SD TV today.

BSherrod: I know about DRG4's site and am very interested in getting some of the rare footage he shows. Sadly, he seems to only have them as RM, which is probably even worse than the FLV's from YouTube. I don't think I tried e-mailing him to see if he could send me high quality versions of the footage he has, but I'll do so soon, thanks for reminding me .
As for ToonZone, I never visited the site, but found out about the real episode order by googling for it, which led me to their forums. I'll see if they can confirm the legitimacy of the real episode order.
The TV captures are phenomenal: they are softer than the DVD rips and (IIRC) the VHS captures, but they are leagues better than both as they don't have the NASTY rainbowing and haloing from the DVDs or the HORRENDOUS telecining of the VHS tapes. After filtering they look simply awesome .

Booshman: thanks for the encouragement . Now that I found good spanish audio sources, the only thing we need to find are subtitles for each episode (in english, spanish or both) and pictures from which the menus will designed.

By the way, I've been thinking about the subtitles, since the release is still going to take some time, would you guys volounteer to create the subtitles? I can provide you with all you need for it, and if you dedicate it only 5 minutes a day you can have a whole chapter done in two weeks or less. What do you say?

I don't mind doing subtitles for an episode or two. I don't think I could do more than that though.

EDIT: I just remembered that I'm involved in too many projects right now to be able to help. Perhaps in a few weeks I could do an episode or two.

An easy way I've found to do subtitles, is simply converting the audio track to a wav and importing it into a program such as cooledit. The times match up perfectly with the ones in the subtitle files, unlike say using PowerDVD, where the times are not as accurate.

Then, you'd create a text file with the extention srt and input the subtitle in this format:

1 (the number of the subtitle)
00:00:04,284 --> 00:00:07,583 (point where the line begins ---> ends)
Watch it, bub! (line being spoken)

That being said, I might give it a try when my SFII DVD is finally done.

klokwerk: thanks for volounteering http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/wink/thumb.gif. I'll have the second episode uploaded soon, along with the necessary tools.

marioxb: we would be very grateful if you could help out with the subs. Let me know if/when can you do some.

What will it take to do subtitles? I'll definetly try to do what I can.

So, any takers for this first episode?

[edit]Bishop, could you give me a link for all those covers you found in their original size?
