RE: What's missing from GOUT

So they used the same NTSC master but deinterlaced them differently for the video formats?

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

Here's another error NTSC (top), PAL (bottom) 149900

The GOUT master seems to have a weird glitch in these frames. The following frames also have it. The light in the wall also lacks the color it should have.

NTSC GOUT

NTSC GOUT notice the colored lights

Here is how that first frame you posted looks in the JSC laserdisc

Sorry for being a little off-topic, but it doesn't seem to be so much life in this thread anyway. That weird glitch I described above just seem to be our dreaded friend DVNR, I just noticed these frames that occur after the ones I already posted, I feel sorry for Vader's saber...

Why does the pal gout of rotj have better color definition ?

I want this DVD and i live in the states, are there any sites that sell region 2 pal discs to the USA, i mean other than crapbay.

Have you tried amazon.co.uk?

Bumping this thread so Mr. Al Falcon can see for himself the x0project timecode snapshots on page 1.
Nothing to get too excited about

However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

145590

I think this frame could be treated as a "garbage-frame", the NTSC GOUT have an interlacing error here yes, but the PAL GOUT just repeat the previous frame. In all other sources of Empire I have looked at, this scene of Threepio consists of 45 frames, whereas this junk frame makes it 46 in the GOUT.

RE: What's missing from GOUT

It's actually this following frame that is absent in the PAL GOUT:

145590

The repeated frame in the PAL GOUT was what confused me a little, so it's actually this frame that has the error in the NTSC and in the PAL the frame before is just repeated, two different kinds of errors. ;)

A similar case with this frame:

13588

The PAL disc just repeat the previous frame, the actual frame missing:

Oh those ugly glue marks... ESB is full of them.

Anyway, what I find most interesting here is the difference in the color timing between the GOUT and your laserdisc shot.

RE: What's missing from GOUT

Yeah, the color timing on the laserdisc shot here is far removed from the real thing, the GOUT is correct, minus the red/pink tint.

So you're saying the first one is an extra frame, but the second is a duplicate frame that replaces another?

Instead of this frame:

we get this:

Top: NTSC Bottom: PAL

It looks like the PAL is a duplicate of the previous frame, on the NTSC you don't see the visible splice (glue mark) seen on the LD, hence my conclusion, but I may still be wrong about this one, you'll probably need to check the LD's to be sure. There's so little movement in the picture at this point, so a duplicated frame is perfectly acceptable as a quick fix for NTSC owners. In motion you'll never notice it but the interlacing error is noticable.

Instead of this frame:

we get this:

Top: NTSC Bottom: PAL

The PAL is just a duplicate of the previous frame. If you want to do a quick fix, just delete this frame and duplicate the next frame instead.

Cool.  So the frame count should be the same, in the end.  Thanks

RE: What's missing from GOUT

this is all very interesting.....

we will definitely be returning back

to see what frames we get from our

version(s) compared to the official GOUT

discs. this will be mostly for star wars.

it might be possible to check for ESB also

since we've encoded that already.

nice work to all involved in documenting these.
