The lived in look back. Especially Coruscant. The Empire being defeated has created a power vacuum (as with all dictatorships) different splinter cells all vying for power. Start VII with a street battle on Coruscant, big and epic, between two of the fractions. Who's fighting? Why are they fighting?! This is exciting!! Not everyone's still sitting around with their feet up after Endor reminiscing about the battle.

Welcome 'Hey, it's me'
The style of the Original films is a must, and with the general consensus Disney should know that it would be a mistake to not to go in that direction.
As far as enemies go....would it not be an idea to follow history.
The Empire's style is based on Nazi Germany, how about the new enemy being one of the allies who fought during the Rebellion, the Mon Cal for example?

I am ready for the trials!I can't see Admiral Ackbar being a bad guy. I could see the Hutts making a grab at expanding their influence. The Empire tolerated them, but probably didn't want them getting too big.
The Marvel comic brought in a new alien threat from outside the galaxy, trying to get a foothold with the Empire in ruins. The Rebel Alliance and Imperial remnants eventually joined together to fight them.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTI kinda like Jaitea's idea, though I agree that it couldn't be the Mon Cal. Their best analogy might be the French. Some other faction of the former good guys would have to turn, somebody big who could sorta serve as a USSR analogue. Maybe the Corellian System or something like that. They could be former allies with different ideologies and post-war plans, and pretty equally armed. The idea really intrigues me.
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

I would prefer two scenarios. First is that the new trilogy would start where ROTJ ended. The story would be about slow liberation of the galaxy from the imperial remnant. But unfortunately the original cast is now too old for that. The other one is that the focus would on the new Jedi Order with various enemies (something like Jedi Academy game).
Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

This is probably the first good reason for going back to Coruscant that I've read so far. It would certainly recall the Taungs and the Battalions of Zhell fighting for control of the planet "a thousand generations" ago.
Personally, I want the sequel trilogy to just stay away from Coruscant completely ala the OOT. The prequels spent way too much time there, especially the latter two. There's an entire galaxy to explore. I'd want each of the three sequels to take an Empire Strikes Back approach and show us worlds we've never seen before.
