What do you want for the future of Star Wars?

Hi everyone! I'm Ariana, a magazine major at Syracuse University. I'm writing my major story this semester on Star Wars, the sequel films and nostalgia. I would really love to do some fan interviews to give the story more depth and authenticity.  If you're interested in talking about your passion for the series and what you want to see in its future, let me know, I would love to set up an interview. Thank you so much!

Nostalgia... It's not what it used to be is it?

I too want to see a good film.

One where the characters and the plot are the prime concern and where the visuals and the merchandising serve them, not the other way around.

Ideally I would like to see great movies with classic-era artistry and craft.

Realistically with J.J. Abrams, I would just like to see something watchable and hopefully entertaining.

3 films not videos, with good stories not just aiming to sell toys or tie in video games.

With Episode VII there is a good chance it will be shot on film and post converted to 3D digital, since Abrams eschewed shooting either star trek on video.

I just hope he leaves the lens flares out of star wars.

I also hope the glitzy cgi look of the prequels is replaced with the realistic lived in look of the oot.

But will his director of cinematography try to match the prequels which were all David Tatterstall and rubbish in my opinion or opt to copy Gil Taylor or Peter Suschitzky, probably not Alan Hume since many consider Jedi to be cheaply shot and not very well made, not me but the first two really are benchmarks.

Since the practical real effects unit not cgi was sold to  a former ILM'er and went out of business.  Highly unlikely Hamill if involved will get his real sets, real props and real effects.

Considering the Enterprise was all CGI in Star Trek 2009 and no physical model was built we can probably see the same for Luke's X-wing and the millennium falcon.

Way too many unknowns since none of the big three are signed, and John Williams is not involved yet because its way too early.  Also there is no finished script.

One thing i am very optimistic about is that Orci and Kurtzmen are not writing star wars.  They wrote the last two star treks and also wrote Amazing Spider-man II.

Because JJ is doing episode 7 there will be lots of explosions and plenty of action.  But what worried me about this choice of director is his trek lacked the sense of wonder the original had, makes me also worry the sense of wonder star wars 77 had will also be absent.

Less CGI, more location shooting, good balance of practical effects, old time makeup, costumes, etc. Most of all, an engaging story with some mystery and characters I can actually care about.

I'd like to see the original trilogy be restored and released to the public. As far as new movies being made, I'd like to see a real world portrayed with a gripping plot and characters I can relate to. For me this means having real model ships and an actual shooting location and a little bit of effort from the people making the film. If they can't bring back the "used universe" look to Star Wars then they are wasting everybody's time imo.

Luke threw twice....maybe.

An eponymous answer.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

I want 3 plain vanilla blu-rays of the old movies. Nothing else means anything until then. It's all just frosting without a cake.

I just want the originals on blu-ray too. Hope disney releases them in my lifetime.

Sounding like a broken record since May 2006.

How old are you? :P

I think Disney will come around to it, but not for a few years at least. Didn't they have many of their animated films on moratorium for much of the 2000s? Or maybe it was just a few, like Beauty and the Beast. Anyway, I imagine it's in the discussion over there, but the consensus is probably, "Let the nerds wait for now."

Of course you all know that as a condition of George Lucas' sale, he stipulated in the contract, as his only demand, that the Special Editions only are to be viewed or distributed for perpetuity.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

I hope Fox distributes 7, 8 and 9 theatrically so we can hear that fanfare at the beginning of every Star Wars movie with "Episode" in the title.

Don't say it'll never happen!

Disney's not gonna want to wait forever (literally) to get full rights to Episode 4, are they?????

1. The restoration and (re) release of the OOT on DVD/Blu Ray/whatever.

2. No more Darths (that goes for the Sequel Trilogy and EU both).

3. More lightsaber colours beyond blue, red, and green (for ST & EU both, like above).

God doesn't think in terms of black or white - or even shades of gray - but in big, bright, bold hues of blue and orange.
