I loathe this.  He's right on Obi's tail and he doesn't hit anything.  It's really stupid.

Well, I like the prequels, but to a certain extent. The music scores are awesome. People hate the prequels because how they were made.

But, if Episode I-III were made first, people would love them more. That means that people would dislike Episodes IV-VI if they were made later.

Most of the effects (and I mean MOST) in Phantom Menace are pretty good, but there are some that can be way better than they are. I despise the story of Phantom Menace with a passion and the new characters such as Qui Gon Jinn, Jar Jar Binks, and Queen Amidala are easily three of the worst characters ever put on screen. The already existing characters I think did an okay job. You could tell that Ewan Mcgregor was at least trying in all three films. So many people were waiting for it, and it just collapsed. Attack of the Clones on the other hand was way better but something about it turned me off. The acting was definitely subpar and I plan to see it in 3D just to have the joy of laughing at the dialogue in theaters. Anakin Skywalker is just so unlikeable in Attack of the Clones and George Lucas went way too hard on the effects, so much so that even the clones are CGI. Which leaves Revenge of the Sith, this prequel is by far the best and I thought it was pretty good. Sure the acting can be a hell of a lot better, but the story of Anakin's fall to the dark side and the darker action pretty much whites all of the bad stuff out. So yeah, I hated Phantom Menace, didn't really liked, but I liked Revenge of the Sith.

Qui-Gon is probably my favorite PT character!  I think Neeson is a great actor, and I like that Qui-Gon is noble and good, yet often does things that are considered less than perfect: he lies, cheats, steals (in the book, though never explicitly on film--didn't you ever wonder where he got that power source for Anakin's pod?), resists the council's ruling and encourages Obi-wan to do the same, manipulates, belittles, attempts to use the Force to make a purchase using unacceptable to the seller, and imposes his will on those whom he protects.  Yet he remains a good guy, and really most of his actions were noble and saved or bettered lives.  I think he was completely unnecessary, and if they were to use him, why not make better use of him instead of killing him, but I think he is actually a very interesting character

I like that they are past history and that i never have to see them again.

Terrible films, bad script writing, bad acting, bad directing, bad editing, bad cinematography.

One long cgi video game.

Terrible movies i mean there was only 1 film in the trilogy the others were videos.

Some of them are indeed, in fact I've seen CGI films based on CGI games which are better than the CGI PT.

I disagree.  ROTLA would have featured Adam Sandler in the roles of Indy and Marion.

Sorry but "adventure films" full of annoying drama and annoying, repulsive, whiny main character just don't entertain me, no matter when or how they are made...

Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

Are you kidding me? If Episode 1 had been made first then there would have been no 2,3,4,5 & 6. The franchise would have been dead and buried with that film.  That film relied on the fact that you would have watched the Original Trilogy first. Take out all the fancy effect work, do it with 70's tech and you would have even more of a snore fest. It has nothing to do with how they were made. They're just crap films, plain and simple.

Why do prequel fans always have to find all these lame excuses as to why other fans hate the prequels instead of the real reason that they're just crap films? It's the same shit every time;

"You don't like them because of how they were made"

"You don't like them because they were aimed at kids and you are too old"

"You don't like them because you hate CGi"

"You only like the Original Trilogy better because of nostalgia"

"You just like to bash George Lucas"

"If you don't like the prequels then you are not a TRUE fan"

Blah, blah, blah

This. Seriously, this. It really shouldn't have to be up to the extended universe/deleted scenes (Qui-Gon stealing) to make a character awesome, but believe me when I say as a kid reading the Jedi Apprentice books sold me on Qui-Gon. He's a flawed, highly opinionated character that believes in action at any cost, which is probably why he wasn't on the council. To be honest I would have liked to see Obi-Wan's training under Qui-Gon as a TV series, much of it directly lifted from said books, but I'm sure that's not happening. I think he's actually the only PT-exclusive Jedi that I found compelling. Then again, I didn't watch Clone Wars so I might be missing out.

edit: for that matter, it really fleshes out Obi-Wan too. Despite their target audience, I'd still recommend the series. Easy reads for anyone over ten, perhaps earlier, but compelling stories that still suck me in if I choose to revisit them. And they're not shoddily written, either.

RE: What do you LIKE about the Prequels?

To some extent the technology of the day would have limited Lucas so he wouldn't have thought something like Jar-Jar would even remotely work with that level of childish slapstick.

Early designs of Chewie look almost PTish

but I doubt that even with the right rubber suit 1970's Lucas would undermine what he could achieve with that sort of 'humour'.

When you have a rubber suit some people will instantly think it's silly so to play against that expectation you would have to make the character not silly.

If you have a wild palette of the kind CGI can afford it's tempting to think the chucks are off and you can do whatever wacky scheme comes into your head.

George was notoriously broody on the set of Star Wars (1977) because the end product wasn't looking anything like he originally hoped for. Going by TPM I can only say thank heavens.

But maybe TPM (1977) would have been a less silly, acting centered film with more effective minimal physical effects.

Either way TPM (1999) is just bobbins and the film that almost killed all sense of excitement over yet released films I had (Prometheus finished the job).

I'll have to check them out.  I don't get to read enough, but it would be nice to get to know Qui-Gon better.  It's a real shame that the most interesting Jedi serves the least purpose to the overall story, so it would be nice to get some good background on him.

RE: What do you LIKE about the Prequels?

I liked the basic story of the films and some of the action scenes were enjoyable.  My biggest beef is simply that 1 and 2 are just really kinda boring.  It's easy to point fingers at obvious annoyances like Jar Jar, Anakin, and space taxes, but really those are all just minor nitpicks compared to the real problem that they just simply weren't very fun to watch.  I can watch a movie with an annoying character or bad actor and still enjoy the movie otherwise.

Revenge of the Sith on the other hand I actually do consider to be a good movie and I like that the film is able to stand on it's own mostly from 1 and 2 so I can sometimes just watch the OT+ROTS.

I look at the Prequels kind of the same way I look at the Silmarillion.  They both contain some interesting backstory information which expands the main body of work but fails to entertain to the same degree.
