Hey, I like most the Special Editions, and some minor changes in the DVD version, but what stands unbearable is the final sequence, in which the ghosts of Ben, Yoda and Anakin appear. Hayden Christiansen???? NOOOO WAAAYYY. Where is the last Anakin? when finally he is complete!!! and despite the fact that in that scene Christiansen's interpretation isn't credible, even he doesn't look to Ben!!!
To that people who claims that a only a Jedi becomes a ghost at his death, tell them that it only starts with Qui-Gon, and only him, Yoda and Ben were capable of it, and Anakin only can do it at the final of his life, when he reaches again the light side of the Force, so the nakin who would appear as a ghost would have to be the old Anakin, not a younger Anakin, who even he wasn't a Jedi Master when he turned to the Dark Side, so... GET OUT HC!! C'mon Lucas, you have only to switch that scene... please...

I agree, I can't stand this scene. I don't mind the changes to the special effects in the special editions, but I hate when Lucas messes with the story.

Regarding this: According to an interview, HC didn't even know he was in ROTJ. They just copied and pasted his head from some unused shooting from ROTS. Pathetic.

Using unused shootage of Hayden, an insult to Shaw and the fans who buy the DVD, could have filmed it properly if we have to have the guy

I remember the first (and last) time I watched Star Wars on my brand new freakin expensive DVD set. I remember after the DS2 exploded with it's sh!ty explosion ring turning to my sister. I warned her to cover her ears lest she be rendered deaf by the awful music.
And so it came just as it was getting to the end of the poorly redone music the "Ghost boys" appeared just as I had waited for. Something seemed off for a second thouh. I thought my TV (which is older than me) had finally died, so I rewound back to where I had seen the problem.
Anakin Skywalker was different somehow. I moved closer to the TV to be sure. It was Mr.Prequel Anakin. That couldn't be right, infact it had to be some horrible, horrible flaw in the disc. The people at lucas film had, HAD to have accidentally put in a CG composite of him when they were editing Episode Three. Somone must have accidentially renamed the files and they put his in by misteak.
It was only later that I learned the truth of the situation. Oh those hours of doubt in which I let myself belive that a tragedy had infact not occured.

I certainly cannot blame him. I wonder what my reaction would have been had I popped in the DVD without already knowing that Hayden would be there instead of Sebastian Shaw. I probably would have turned to stone.

I just wish he'd remake the OT completely, so he stop SCREWING with the movies that defined my formative years. Seriously, why can't he just do that? Wait a couple of years for the PT people to get older. Make 3 new movies. LEAVE THE GOOD ONES ALONE YOU OLD FOOL.

I am reading 'Truce at Bakura'. There's a bit where Annakin appears to Leia, who is having trouble dealing with the idea of Vader as her Father. I wasn't sure if I should picture Hayden or Shaw, and as a result I had trouble picturing anything.

I llike Shaw to bits and want him as the ghost of Anakin, but I think I could have one day lived with Christensen if the performance and execution of it was'nt so abysmal, you can tell it was'nt filmed properly, This is one of the most important scenes in the "saga" and to me when an actor says in an interview he didnt even know he was in the film and is inserted as left over footage or whatever, for arguilably one of the most important scenes in the saga, Its just not good enough for me, nor should it be or millions of other fans, and G.L and R.M should be ashamed of themselves for just throwing in a bit of test footage or whatever in an such an important scene of the saga and shortchanging the fans.
If Lucas was so insistent on having H.C in ROTJ would it have hurt to film it properly......no of course not,

If HC had been killed in an accident, then using stock footage would be acceptable, and it would be the only option. But - the guy is alive and well, he's still young, he still looks the same. WHY THE HELL then, is this leftover from Episode 3 sitting in what is supposed to be a very important scene???

But - what does not make sense to me is the footage that they used. Would it kill him to drag a HD cam out of retirement and do *one* more shot of Hayden?

I know it's been said before, probably on this thread... hell, probably by me, but it doesn't make any sense because it implies that Anakin was never redeemed. I'd go into more detail, but... I don't feel like it. But I do agree it was a crappy job nevertheless.

Shaw was fine,and can accept the Lucas explaination for the change, the difficulty for me was the performance which I dont feel is worthy of an important scene like this.....

I've never thought about that before. Perhaps there would have been some benefit in letting GL remake the OT. The only thing is, I bet he'd still refuse to release the OOT in favour of the 'New Original Trilogy'.

Don't ever, ever let Lucas hear you say that!! Don't you see what he would do!! I shudder when I think about it. If he remade the OT, there is quite a huge possibility that he would claim that it was his "original vision" of the OT and refuse to accept the current movies as the OT, and never release the original versions again!!!!!

The Hayden idea makes sense on paper, but it was just unnecessary-- not to mention one of the most piss-poor hatchet jobs in all of Lucas tweakdom. Plus, the scene now makes less sense, since Shaw is still Anakin earlier in the movie. I assume the next Extra Special Ultimate Seriously It's the Last Time Edition will have Hayden in bad grayish recreation makeup as Vader sans helmet. It's also stupid because there's ol' Alec Guinness right next to him. The whole "redeemed" ghost thing is just another excuse for more changes.
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.
