Not sure how to get word to the kid, but as he feels it's trouble to release the movie, he could release his working files as an alternative.  If he's ripped the DVDs for instance in one piece and the editing file references those, then people can recreate the final product with their own ripped copies.

^a bit off topic, but would that actually work?

i was going to propose a while back, but it wold be interesting to perhaps have a bank of such small 'edit' files on dropbox for Final Cut, Vegas and Premier.

If we developed an indexing system for the ripped dvds, music files and sfx etc (Everyone would have the same stuff, with the same name in the same place on their own machines) then surely it would be quite a good way to piece some projects together.

But which DVDs? The NTSC ones, with their lower vertical resolution but correctly pitched audio, or the PAL ones, with higher resolution but squeaky soundtrack?

Some kind of more abstract knowledge base would be useful though - if you want to get rid of Jar-Jar, you can do this, this, and this, but watch out for this, etc.

I'm assuming the system would clarify this. it would be a bitch admittedly having to have various releases ripped of the same film, but that is why the gods gave us external hard drives.:p

this could make a good thread if people wanted to start hoarding it.

*just a side note, this wouldn't be too different to game mods which implement a module system (neverwinter knights is an example). to run certain modules, a creator would specify what additional content patches would need to be present (HAK files for those familiar).

Just curious, but has anyone here on the forums ever suggested or made a thread suggesting a single edit out the 3 prequels?

I feel like it's an idea that's been kicked around before but didn't see anything similar under 'search'.

Only the bestest fan edit EVAR thank you very much. One that was too good for this site.

There's "The Dark Times" edit that while not explicitly intentional in the OP. [ "I am now determined to create an edit for MYSELF. In other words, I'm removing everything about the prequals that I didn't like..." ] The running time of the first two episodes combined with the possible approximate running time for ROTS would'v made the final product viewable as a single film. The edit is incomplete as far as I'm aware.

Don't be curious. Back out now, while there's time. This isn't the hobby you're looking for.

I'll start working on my own 3-in-1 edit of the prequels, named Skywalker, this summer.  It is focused explicitly on Anakin and uses new music and colour correction to create a completely new atmosphere, one similar to the Twilight movies and The Hunger Games.  It will be part of a trilogy, where Part 2 will be focused on Luke and Part 3 is focused on both Luke and Anakin after Luke has discovered the truth about Vader.

Twilight Star Wars? Kill it with fire!

It's only the style of the films I'm emulating, not how absolutely terrible the twilight movies and the hunger games are.

Sounds great!  A 6n3 saga trilogy sounds like a great experience. A new experience with a very quick pace while keeping most of the great stuff.

Are you concerned about viewing order? 3 125 minute movies would allow an interesting presentation. About 85 minutes for ANH, 40 minutes for the first half of ESB ending with a cliff hanger (true identity of Yoda or hanging on the SD?.)  The second could be about 45 minutes of the last half ESB ending with a cliff-hanger, then 80 minutes of a TG style PT ending on a cliff-hanger.  The third movie could be 30-40 minutes of PT where everything goes to hell then 85-95 minute ROTJ.

Actually for parts 2 and 3 I'll do some rearranging of events, so I can allow part 2 to end right as Darth Vader reveals the truth to Luke.  I wouldn't want to be left with just ROTJ for part 3.  Part 3 will start off like Return Of The King starts off, showing Anakin becoming and living as Darth Vader.

I have and I just watched the movie and it rules and it's a faithful adaptation. It doesn't have an indie soundtrack either - no lyrics unless you get the CD. Not comparable to Twilight.

The Hunger Games although does have an effective use of editing in the action sequences, that I do like.  Another thing is the use of shaking cameras, (so much my friend found herself motion sick after the movie).
