Mostly because I'm busy right now helping TFN set up their new board software. I haven't had much time to work on the project. I few weeks down the road though, that should change.

That would of course be your stereotypical TFNer. However, there are those of us who choose to think outside the box...

I chose to leave "the box" altogether, and got all my socks banned. The stereotypical behaviors over there really grated on my nerves.
MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They're certainly beyond any repair you're capable of making.
MeBeJedi: You aren't one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can't say I find that very disappointing.
JediRandy: I won't suck as much as a fan edit.

I'm glad to see that your sort of TFNer exists. It is a very rare thing, heretofore thought to be an oxymoron.

Hi. I'm trying to make my own ld transfer (but I'm having a little trouble getting the video right) But I was wondering, what program are you going to use for encoding the video?

I would check out
Video Help and see their list of encoders as well as other tools. I personally like TMPNGEnc Plus, but others like Premier, CCE, Main Concept, and others.

Hello Zion,
I was just wondering how your work is progressing (I'm sure we're all eager to know). I'm very excited about your project, and can only hope you might be nearing a release date for ANH. I don't mean to be nosy or try to be ungrateful (I'm so so very very greateful you've put your time, energy, and money into this) but I'm itching to see the some of the new X0 tranfers. Perhaps a few new screenshots of what you're working on?
Thanks again,
Birdie

This may be slightly off topic, but how big are the X0 transfers? Are they considered the best "source material" transfer at the moment?
I know when I did my transfer of all three films they were ~65GB per film using lossless (a must IMHO) HuffyUV codec. I had ZERO dropped frames and manually (mathmatically and dealing with pattern breaks) deinterlaced it all. The problem was that I was using an ATI card which I KNOW wasn't giving me the best possible results. My LD player also was the Pioneer DVL919 which was the last generation made and was likely made with the cheapest possible parts as LD had all but died at that point.
I'm just curious. I can't wait for Zion's release as it has the most potential in my opinion as he seems to have the highest standards in terms of uncompromising quality (anamorphic 16x9, dual-layer, best screen cap results, audio options, lack of annoying "branding" etc,) but having the best "source" to play with myself is something I'd also be interested in. Not to mention that lossless compressed AVI would be useful for future (post-DVD) archival.

The transfers are amazing to say the least. We'll be putting up some comparisson shots pretty soon to show the difference between other captures and the X0. Don't expect much from this thread any time soon, as anything new will probably be posted in the
X0 Project thread.

The thread was stickied at the request of a couple people. It's an active project, so I figured why not. (Besides, I just figured out how to do it myself.

Yeah, those menus look cool! I prefer the beginning with the star field blasting in the background to the sound of a lightsaber. My only gripe is when you click on sound options or whatever, and vader says "Prepare your troops for a ground assault" and there's that awkward cut to a close up before it goes to another menu. It all seems so awkward.
maybe if you got rid of that close up?
Just my 2 cents.
PS: What program are you using?

I'm using a combination of After Effects and Premiere. Also some light work in Audition for the sound clips. I think that transition looks odd because that's actually a clip of Vader when he's talking to Peitt, not Veers. The Veers clip seems to work much better and I'll be inserting it for my next version.
