So for a frame based (non-interlaced) source you would need to modify the function by replacing:

fields=source.SeparateFields() # separate by fields
super = fields.MSuper()

with:

super=source.MSuper()

Then I guess "weave()" can also be removed?

I'll give it a try Ridgeshark and let you know the results.

Msuper is part of what filter?

It's a function in MVTools v2.  Found as a part of Fizick's amazing filter collection http://avisynth.org.ru/fizick.html  Or the direct link here for the documentation and download link -  http://avisynth.org.ru/mvtools/mvtools2.html  Sorry I failed to mention before that I was using v2 - MSuper and probably many other features are absent in v1.

There are lots of great examples on there - it's where I got the function MDegrain2i2 and there are other examples of functions made specifically for progressive (non-interlaced) video.  Also - I haven't tried using MVDegrain to remove rainbowing on progressive video.  I imagine it would help if all you have is a progressive source, but I'm certain that filtering the chroma on the interlaced frames before performing the IVTC would achieve better results in removing the rainbowing.

I love your previous effort with this LD. Any updates?

Good luck and keep up the good work.

So is this project dead? I am starting to regret canceling and deleting all the files from my PC,so Arnie are you still doing this? I have only about 2 or so more weeks left on my Blu-ray projects and they are done,I might have to start this bad boy up again if you are quitting it,so please let me know.

Thanks

Gee Arnie.d, c'mon already! Seven whole weeks have passed since you tried the Msuper filter. This project should have been finished and released at least six weeks ago. What have you been doing all this time? Got H1M1 swine flu ? Hope you haven't been assassinated because that would really cramp my style....

However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

I fully support this project and look forward to the results

I can't comprehend how anyone would presume this project dead.
Seven weeks is a moment in time...

And Arnie.d is nowhere near M.I.A.

It's the X0 syndrome. People have become paranoid because they're afraid projects like these may go months (or years) without update.

I've just been really busy with work. But it will be finished. For Star Wars everything is ready to be rendered and encoded.

No, I didn't test the comb filters because of limited time and because the X9 owner had a lot of experience and said the composite out was much better for image quality.

I'm also an X9 owner, and while the results using the composite output might look better at first glance in some circumstances, I don't recommend using it.

The X9, like most other players with both composite & S-Video output, does not have direct composite (also called pure composite) output.  This means that instead of the signal path being disc->TBC->output, it's disc->TBC->3DYC->recombined signal-> output.  So the composite signal is just the S-Video signal recombined back into composite.

I've comfirmed this on my own setup (you can tell what recombined composite looks like after you see it enough times on different LD players), and I believe it has been confirmed on the repair manual of the X9 as well.  You can talk to someone like Kurtis Bahr for more information, he's repaired and worked on a lot of players including the X9.  I believe his contact info can be found in a past post on alt.video.laserdisc.

If you absolutely need to use composite, you should use a players with direct composite like the Pioneer Elite CLD-99 (CLD-HF9G in Japan) or the X0 (BNC terminal output only).

Sorry I didn't notice this thread earlier, I don't visit this forum much.

 Hey Buster,

According to Kurtis/X9 service manual:

LD-> A/D -> TBC/Frame Memory/DVNR -> D/A -> composite. For the S-Video Output it is LD-> A/D -> TBC/Frame Memory/DVNR -> 3D Y/C/(D/A) -> Y/C output.

So although the X9 composite output isn't "pure" it's also not combined Y/C. For my capture all filters were switched off.

Ah, OK.  That's good to know then.  Sorry for the confusion.

RE: .: The X9 Project :.

Correction on direct composite, there is no direct composite output on CLD-99/CLD-HF9G. I looked on my archive picture to be sure, two s-video outputs and two composite outputs on shared sockets. The only consumer players with pure output direct from TBC is my C2EX and Pioneer X0 (Both BNC). The older players people think got direct since they dont have s-video goes through outdated hardware that softens the picture. V-8000 is a good player for this purpose but its not as sharp as the two Bnc players. I would use S-video on the X-9 with most filters off except chroma with a low setting.

RE: .: The X9 Project :.

I've owned it and seen many reports in Japanese that the CLD-HF9G has direct composite.  Its picture definitely wasn't a recombined Y/C signal.
