Spider-Man 2.1 - Extended Cut

Found this while I was looking for "Spiderman and his amazing friends" dvd.

Spider-Man 2.1 extended cut. Anyone know what this is about? Is it just the deleted scenes put back in or something new?
I presume it's a marketing ploy for Spidey 3, but who knows.

it comes out in the u.s. on april 17, 2007 and is only 8 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. it is the same extended cut as the tv version but it is widescreen not fullscreen like the tv extended cut.

it also has a new short featurette on the extended cut.

but like you said it really is another way to sell spidey 3, as it has a preview of it on the dvd.

Is it just me or does this sound like the most gratuitous extended cut yet? I didn't see it on TV but I was really interested in it. I spent some time last week Googling the added scenes and it sounds like complete fluff except for Jameson in the suit. Do I REALLY need to see Mary Jane going shoe shopping? Kirsten's phoned-in performance notwithstanding, the theatrical cut was damn near pitch-perfect. This EE doesn't sound like a LOTR or Superman or Dances With Wolves or James Cameron film, where the extensions bring a whole new level of depth to the characters and situations. It sounds like a pretty blatant stop at the Spidey-Fan ATM to help offset the cost of Spidey 3.

Hmm, might be an interesting buy. I've always enjoyed the Spidey movies and 3 looks to be awesome.

You're just jealous because they got to the Spidey 2 extended edition before you did J/K. Yeah, I agree with you about the stop in at the Spidey-Fan ATM. Hopefully this is absolutely nothing like the X-Men 2.1 DVD, which was terribly done. I am sure it will be, since standards for extended DVDs has risen since X-Men 2.1.

The cover says that there is an extended fight scene, and this wasn't present in the Fox extended cut. We may get to see more than was shown on the t.v version. Also, I never bought Spiderman 2 so I may pick this up.

It is not worth it.
I can honestly tell you that this cut is not worth the time. It was aired in January of FX, and it was a huge let down. Its not the Raimi Extended cut we heard about years ago.

It is a bummer because y'all know me when it comes to Extended Editions ... I devour them like candy. But this sounds like it does virtually nothing worthwhile to the film. I guess it's the candy you find in the bucket from last year's Halloween when you're getting your new costume on.

I read somewhere online that Raimi recommended people to just stick with the original theatrical cut of the movie. Its a shame , would have really liked to see Jameson put on the Spidey outfit!

Yeah, I'll have to pass on this one. I honestly can't imagine added scenes that could have made 2 better anyway. There are no gaping plot holes that a deleted scene could explain, or things that are unclear, so I would say I'm not interested. The company will get my money from my admission to Spider Man 3.

Here is the trailer for this extended cut:Spiderman 2.1 Extended Cut Trailer

The train fight is extended, and the fight where spiderman saves aunt may from dock ock is extended by including the cut part where spiderman and ock fight inside a building after spiderman knocks ock through a wall.

That trailer was very frustrating because almost all of it was Spiderman 2(.0) footage.

Just wondering, will this DVD look as good as the superbit version of the original cut? I presume it has no other features on disc one, so I'm guessing it will.

I didn't know there was a superbit version of the second one.

I managed to score the gift set from a Future Shop a couple months back for $15 bucks, and I'm not about to down more money for what seems to be only minor additions.

Yup. Since Superbit is only the movie without features, and this is a two disc set light on features, I'm guessing it should look as good as the superbit.

yeah but superbit is kind of a joke now that theres HD-DVD and blu ray.

Not sure if spidey is on either format.

The thing about HD and Blu-Ray is that most just can't afford it. My family is now buying our first widescreen, hi-def TV, (720) and its 650 dollars. A blu ray disc player is 1,000 bucks. That just dosn't make sense that we'd have to pay more for a video player than an actual TV.

A stand-alone HD-DVD player's prices range from $300-$500 now that Toshiba has dropped their prices. Also, Sony's new top of the line Blu-Ray player costs $500. HD-DVD is suppossed to have a stand-alone player by the end of the year that will cost only $150. The prices are going to start dropping now that competition is really starting to kick in between the two formats. I have the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 by the way, and it is worth the $200 I paid for it.

But HD-DVD won't win this format war. It's being outsold by Blu-Ray 2 to 1. If Universal announces support for blu-ray, then the format war is over. All major studios will support blu-ray. So it being cheaper doesn't really help. But I am glad to know that blu-ray players are getting cheaper. I have a 360 too, and if HD-DVD was winning the format war, I'd get the add on, but it isn't, so I'm just going to wait for now.

Don't listen to what Sony's PR is saying. Hi-Def Digest recently went to an electronics convention ( I can't remember the name of the convention, but when I find the link tot the report I will post it), and they had a study on sales of Hi-Def media. HD-DVD has sold more stand-alone players than Blu-Ray so far. Also, Blu-Ray's support comes from the studios that support it, and there are lost. If some of them start swinging to HD-DVD also then it is over. HD-DVD is a consumer friendly product. It is cheaper, and offers far more interactivity.

P.S. If you are so sure Blu-Ray will win and is such a sure choice, why not buy into it now?

Because I don't have a thousand dollars and want to wait until the format war ends. Like I said above.

I was not aware Blu-Ray was doing so well. Is there any site I can go to to check out the statistics? Or is it all just hearsay at this point?
