Hi all,
maybe some of you already know but I just finished the workprint of the sequel of my Grindhouse edit "The War of the Stars". This new edit is not grindhouse though.
It's a mix of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
It has some deleted scenes back in and some of them are old looking. But I don't mind too much. The main sources used are the version 3 of Dark Jedi's theatrical cuts. So the whole edit is not as sharp and clean as the DVD (but every other aspects are better as you know). I tried to match the new scenes (some from the prequels) with DJ's theatrical cuts.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTWow, I'm very impressed with the work on the deleted scenes. You can bet I'll be checking this one out. Nice trailer.
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

I am ready for the OOT!Looks like an interesting concept. Can you explain how you plan on mixing Empire and Jedi?
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Well, that's, a bit complex, lol.
Let's say this involved some twists and more than 90 special effects shots.
I can say that Jabba is not present nor mentioned in this edit (since I used the human actor deleted scene in the first edit to say that Han actualy paid Jabba.)
As in the first edit Vader is still not Luke's father.
The Ewoks have less than 5 minutes of screen.
Like in the first edit some dialogue replacements or twisting will be sound a bit weird or differently pitched. I tried my best to make it good, but this could be jarring sometimes.
The edit running time is about 2h15.

I am ready for the trials! If you decide to make the Ewoks into the vicious little furry bastards they could have been, there are several shots in "Battle for Endor" where they are using blasters. Some of it is actually unused Jedi footage.

Magister Pontifex MaximusReally?
In which case why wasn't those scenes on the Jedi deleted scenes disc in the correct aspect ratio?

Well, the workprint is done and the Ewoks don't even really fight the Empire in fact. You can't make two movies in one without cutting a bunch of things and the Ewoks are the first think that cross the mind, lol.
But I'll take a closer look at those shots, just in case. Thanks for the hint.

Maybe the negs were lost after that footage was spliced into the tv movie? Or they still haven't given us every last bit of stuff from the cutting room floor?
Do Ewoks shooting the bad guys undercut the whole "primitives overthrowing technological might" scenario? Only George knows for sure.

Going through the painfull process of making subtitles (in my case: french and english) has a positive side: you spot some little lines or even just a word that should not be there anymore and you can refine your edit even more. :)
It's version 5 now since the workprint. And I think it's the right one.
Fingers crossed for a release before the end of the month.

A simple but, I think, effective covert art.

will you ever return to the War of the Stars with the newer deleted scenes? its a shame the cantina extended scene was never released in colour.

Yeah... Vader's red eyes are there.
Also R2's subtitles. Although I think they are a bit more useless than they were in the first edit. But well, had to make them for some "continuity". I just feel they are not as fun.
The overall tone of this edit is less fun than the first anyway. Don't expect a lot of gags or things like that. But I think there are enough twists, deleted scenes and WTF moments to be entertaining.
Upload will start tonight. The edit will be available at fanedit.info in one or two weeks if everything is fine.

RoninJust watched this. I loved how bold your decisions were in some of your edits (I won't spoil it for others). Let me just say... I loved how it began! I missed the lack of a grindhouse look, but I could see it as being the "bigger budget" sequel.
However, I'm at a loss as to how you would continue the story if you wanted to make it a trilogy. I'm assuming there are no plans to do so? Anyway, I loved the edit! Thanks for creating it and sharing it.

I got it downloaded in the end! awesome job - love it! the opening sequence was very well done! all the deleted scenes were well used especially the ones on Hoth! must have been a nightmare trying to work out how to combine the two films together, but the result is most impressive! will be watching this again tonight!
