The Red Dwarf appreciation thread.

As for those who are fans may have noticed, I'm a huge fan of the cult sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf. What are your favourite episodes, series and characters? Who was your favourite Holly etc.

Back To Reality worked for me not only as a solid comedy episode but also as a solid science fiction story (the best Red Dwarf episodes do both).

There is only one Holly who is sometimes male and sometimes female.

You might as well ask who is your favorite Talkie Toaster.

I'm most interested in how the next series will be. I know it's mostly rumors that the next series is going to happen but hey took long enough for series 10 to come out. So I'm gonna speculate about the next one. I like the Cat. Right now I'd have to say that I don't have a favourite series. The series 1 - 6 kind of blend together in a haze of like in my mind. One thing I hope the next series brings is an encounter with one of the Cat arks. Something to do more with the cats.

Also, yet to track down the attempted USA pilot to watch. . .

Aren't there three hollys? The nanobot created Holly, the Alternate universe Holly, and the main Holly who changes gender?

Yeah Back to Reality is a favourite. Also Gunmen of the Apocalypse which also works on both levels. And your right about Holly as a character, but I would tend to lean more to Norman Lovetts Holly ( just a personal preference) But there still remains question, the others will have to know!..does anybody want any toast?

I really think they should leave it alone now. 10 was so so at best. If they get Rob Grant back to help with the writing then perhaps. The US pilot was included in the Smeg ups and it was dreadful.

I watched it (and loved it) up until Rimmer left and Kochanski became a permanent member of the crew. I never watched any of the new stuff on Dave, although I heard it was quite good. Is it worth watching?

Favourite episodes:

Confidence & Paranoia
Thanks for the Memory
Queeg
Backwards
Polymorph
Timeslides
The Last Day
DNA
Quaratine
Back to Reality
Polymorph 2
Rimmerworld
Out of Time

The parallel universe Holly was actually called Hilly IIRC, but when Holly decided to have a sex change he modelled his appearance on her.

All those episodes are brilliant. The series (8 I think?) where Rimmer goes off to become Ace and Kochanski takes his place was ok. But I tired of her quite quickly. 9 & 10 are worth a watch, but just the once. None of them merit a re-viewing in my opinion.

But be warned, after watching it you'll really wish you hadn't

Back to Earth was pretty dire, but i thought the new series was pretty good. Although it really did need Holly. Hopefully he/she will be back for the next one. It was pretty successful so i'd say it's a good bet we'll get another one soon.

MODS!!!

I laughed at Red Dwarf so much with:

and at the end of the Backwards episode:

(you have to get that episode)

Who is the most foolish, the fool, or the fool which follows it?

Also fought in the clown wars, many years ago..and lost..miserably..

Duly noted. Now to rewatch the entire programme with the extended episodes. So that I can just watch that afterwards as an interesting "what if" or perhaps never watch it at all. . . Undecided.

Haha, it was definately a smeg up! I have no idea what they were thinking. Absolutely awful.

Definitely, man! That is annoying! However, I overuse that word big time, and get it right every time; so if you've read any of my posts lately, then you've probably seen someone get it right recently.

Not every time it seems :p
