Neither should the Emperor.
I agree with this. The sheer momentary thrill I had when I thought "WOW! Yoda is going nuts with that lightsaber!!" has been far outweights by how much that seemed to diminish the character.
I would rather Palpatine take out the Jedi with lighting, and choking, and stuff like that.

I've started to download them now and I'll give them a good look.
Are they up anywhere in a smaller format (AVI for example) my connection is awful here and it would take forever to get the disc image versions?
I don't know of smaller AVI version. Sorry.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityI would love the Battle Droid dialog to be minimized to when they are talking to someone who isn't a droid. It would be silly to require verbal communication between droids controlled from the same place. No "Check it out, Corporol, we'll cover you", no "roger, roger", or "open fire", or anything like that. Let them be silent killing machines.

I posted about it earlier, but here's two examples of gray colored battle droids which (I believe, anyway) look more mechanical an thus embody the nature-technology conflict that's present in a lot of Star Wars and could go some way to making them a little more intimidating...
Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I personally like the idea of all Old Republic Jedi using blue sabers.
Okay, now I'm just having fun but here's Maul-Grievous. It'd certainly give Maul more purpose, but might be damn difficult to actually get in there.

I'm going to get lynched by the "green laser" people ... but I actually like this idea. Primarily because there's a well thought out, artistic reason behind it, and it's not being proposed just because someone doesn't like the original color. ...However, I'm having trouble picturing them against the lush backdrop of Naboo and not looking bad.
I don't like the idea of all the Jedi having blue lightsabers. It seems too tyrannical and uninclusive which is not what the Republic is about.

Well, I hadn't ever thought of it like that. What I really wanted was to show that Luke's new green lightsaber of ROTJ was a whole new age for Jedi, a symbol of the new republic and something that had never existed before.
It's not really supposed to be about uniformity but rather to give Luke's green saber that much more significance.

Maul-Grievous is a damn good idea. If they had used that as his backstory in RotS it would have added a hell of a lot more depth to his character. For starters it would give Darth Maul some of a connection to Darth Vader. Not only would he be a mechanical monster with asthma, but he also would have been cast aside in favor of a more powerful apprentice.
Plus it would have given Lucas a good reason to have him show up in AotC ..... oh how I hate that movie.

I just don't see it. Greivous is a general, a sneaky tactician who hits and runs. Maul is a silent killer. I don't see why Maul would somehow suddenly become a leader because he's cut in half.
Also, I just don't like the idea of Maul living. He was in the movie, looked cool, killed a Jedi then died. It's not that he's the single most compelling character of all time who was taken from us too soon before we breached his emotional depths.

enthusiasti know the characters of maul/grevious are completely different. but if DARTH GREVIOUS was used in TPM:R im sure the nature of the character would be heavily redefined.

Well, really I'm talking about what could have been. I felt General Grievous was an extremely underdeveloped and underused character. My argument is that if he had been built upon the remains of Darth Maul, Lucas would have had much more to draw from when developing the Grievous character. For instance, it would have given the Kenobi/Grievous rivalry a lot more resonance. Having been cast aside to command pathetic droids would have contributed to the depth of his anger and, lest I forget, the PT might have actually had the BAMF villain that it was so desperately lacking.
So yes, comparing the current Grievous and Maul, I can certainly understand not being able to see a connection. But, just think of what Grievous could have been if he were the broken shadow of Darth Maul
That being said, I honestly would not like to see somone try to incorporate this in a PT edit. It is one thing to fix continuity issues, broken lightsabers and Jar-Jar dialogue, but another thing to tamper with a character's backstory and essence. I also doubt that anyone would be able to pull this off in an effective and seamless manner.

Well, maybe just a change in the text crawl could explain the Maul/Grievous connection. It's not like we really need a Grievous with Maul's make up or things like that (although the previous pictures looked great). We can also keep the name Grievous. After all it could be the real name of Darth Maul before he was a Sith. Then, now he's not a Sith anymore, after his fall confronting Obi-Wan, he is called by his real name again. Just an idea.

is automatic for the people. We had a rather lengthy discussion on the Maul/Grevious idea a few years ago. A lot of folks made a good case for it, and a lot made a good case against it. I think the concept was ultimately discarded as being impossible to pull off.
Take a look around the old discussions in SW Preservation and General SW Discussion and see if you can find them.

It needn't be that difficult, Adywan removed the red eye lens from every shot of Vader and changed the colour of Artoo's lights in ANH:R (not that I'm down playing how much effort went into that but is show's that it's possible).
Sticking Darth Maul eyes on Grevious would be only slightly more taxing, you could construct a moment of realisation during the Grevious/Obi Wan duel by dubbing a new line in, adding an eye close up and maybe a very brief flashback and Bingo!
Grevious used to be Maul and his sabre prowess and hatred of the Jedi suddenly make sense.

That's too much plot development to cram into RotS, plus it doesn't do justice to the relationship between the two characters. If someone did try to do Maul-Grievous I'd like it to be something that unfolds over the course of the PT. Something along the lines of: Maul and Kenobi meet in TPM, Grievous is then introduced in AotC hell-bent on getting revenge against Kenobi, and then the rivalry is finally ended in RotS.
You know how most television dramas have an "A" story and a "B" story. The Grievous/Kenobi rivalry could be the "B" story of the PT while the Anakin Skywalker plot would be the "A" story.

Prompting the question of how would you do it?
It sounds great and I don't want to put you off but short of replacing Jengo with Maul Grievous during the Kamino fight which would be a massive undertaking where would he fit?

That's exactly why I said I doubt that anyone would be able to pull this off in an effective and seamless manner. The PT is so convoluted that it would be a massive undertaking both to appropriately alter the story and to physically incorporate Grievous.

Perhaps the good fellow who made those CG Ties for Adywan in ANH:R could do a convincing Grievous model. That'd be a start.
Also, I'm beginning to suspect that GL f'd up the PT on purpose as part of some elaborate marketing ploy, or search for newfound praise.

The thing with TIEs is that they have no moving parts. That's a completely different senario than a four armed guy who has to fight with lightsabers.

I look forward to see what Adywan does with this, as I wait for Tropperman's project to be done. That's alot of waiting....I know what to do :]
