Reminds me of the "Great Ape-Fight or Great-Ape Fight" from Futurama.

Now that was a menace of the phantom variety, given that it was discussed in a commentary (I think).

RE: The Phantom Menace

Overall I think it's a pure Saturday matinee fun-fest.  It has some really exhillarating moments, stand-out special effects (which were criminally overlooked in the following year's Oscar's ceremony) and a genuine sense of innocence.  The Phantom Menace upholds the tradition of good stories well told.  I thought it back in '99 and still believe this to be the case now.

However, I think scenes in the Senate and Jedi Council are mind-numbingly boring to the age group at which the film was made.  Too many moments like these make the film drag a bit in places.

I dont care what anyone else says, TPM is a steaming pile of shit. Only way to watch it is a fan edited version. My preferred one is L8wter's, its pretty damn good movie after he fixed it up.

Yes, but it's only just a pile. AOTC is a pool of shit, and ROTS an entire river!

"I don't care what anyone else says" - then you won't mind me not giving a tinker's cuss about what you say either.

I very much care for the opinions of others, especially if they're opposite to mine.  It's a good way to challenge your own preconceptions and see if you either have the evidence to stick to your original opinion or if you have the humility and maturity to recognise the value of another point of view and take it on board.

Otherwise, you're just blinkered and stubborn, pushing yourself ever further into your little corner, hands over your ears, saying "I'm not listening, I'm not listening".  Why even come to a forum, then, if that's the attitude?  Unless, of course, it's just simple hubris that inspires your every post - "Look at me, my deathless opinions are there for all to see, in black and white.  Aren't I important?"

Funny, I kind of wondered this about you.

Ady's Theatrical cut is one of my favorite projects from this site. Occasionally I will watch this and revisit TPM. The movie itself is not horrible. It really shouldn't have been made, but what can you do?

Ever heard of the word hyperbole?

Your line of thinking is what is wrong with the world, oh lets not have any strong convictions so we dont hurt anyone's feelings, its PC run amok.

You have your own opinion and you are entitled to it, I just think that the movie in its non fan edited form really really sucks for many different reasons, the main one being the completely stupid midichlorine bullshit. Nothing you can say or do will take that turd out of the movie, unless you edit it out like a lot of the editors have...

Edit: HAHAHA I just got it! You thought I was replying directly to you. What an over inflated sense of self worth. It was a reply to the topic of the phantom menace and how I personally think its awful. The internet is always funny...

In what parallel dimension is that then? Cos I've been in 1189998819991197253 of them and our version of the phantom menace doesn't seem to conform to the standards of a 'Good story' or being classed as 'well told'

I think it's safe to say with 100.99% certainty that Easterhay is a dyed-in-the-wool PT gusher/Lucas sycophant.

RE: The Phantom Menace

TPM is probably the most painful to sit through for me. When I watch AOTC & ROTS, for all of their problems (plot holes, dubious acting, flat direction, stiled dialogue) at least something is actually happening. Phantom Menace just reeks of padding and redundancy.

And god help me, at least with the latter two movies, I can see a hint of competent acting by Hayden even with the awful direction Lucas gives him. With Jake Lloyd, its just bad directing, on top of saccharine dialogue on top of a lousy child actor. When they converge for stuff like "Yipee" its just too much.

That is pronounced "hyper-bowl" right? What a cool word! No clue what it means though. I am imagining a bowl that stirs its own contents? If not then I am totally going to patient that!

In that case, I don't think we can be too certain that he was pwned... well... wait, are you eating cereal out of that bowl? Because if that is the case, then yeah, he was pwned alright!

You see, I don't care what anyone thinks The Phantom Menace was the world's finest crappy prequel ever! And I say this with the most ordinary of bowls.
