For your Indiana Jones stuff, do you have the original TOD teaser that was included on the first VHS release of Raiders? If not, I have a decent rip of it I did a year ago. Although you might already have a better quality version judging by the other Indy materials you've compiled since you're using laserdisc sources mostly instead of VHS. Also did you ever catch the 30 minute Entertainment Tonight special on the making of the Indiana Jones movies? They ran it 3-4 years ago back when they were doing these programs on old TV shows or movies once a week, similiar to the E! True Hollywood stories. It was pretty good for what it's worth and it even showed a brief clip of Tom Selleck's audition as Indy.

Since you're a collector of rare behind-the-scenes documentaries, do you have Coppola's 2-hour "Hearts of Darkness" doc on Apocalypse Now? It was released on VHS and (I think) laserdisc, but is likely never to be released on DVD. All I have is a poor quality VHS dub of it and would like to get a good quality laserdisc version if one exists.

Just finished watching "Great adventures and their quests" - Great quality and a good DVD all-round.
Can't wait for the making of temple of doom!

Shabbyblue, yes i do have a copy of that teaser and it will be on one of the upcoming discs...just not sure which one as of yet. And thank you for reminding me! It WAS on a laserdisc release for Raiders. Now if it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg, I just might pick it up!!

oh and btw...don't shoot me but i've never seen apocalypse now nor hearts of darkness. eek!

Definitely. I'm going to re-do the E.T. one that I did so that it's a double disc release. The documentary would work better on a 2 disc release so that I can put all of the photos and whatknot on there as well.

Does anyone know of a plan to convert the original Indy films without the censorship seen in the recent DVD & VHS releases? If not, I would be interested in doing this myself - anybody know?

Im trying to find some solid info on this, but I remember hearing somewhere that when the last VHS set came out it had been censored in a simillar way to the Star wars films to cut out some of the violence. I know for a start that the title of Raiders has changed to include Indiana Jones.

Found this on IMDB Raiders page - In the cinema release of Raiders, immediately AFTER the credits, there was a cutaway to the boxed Ark of the Covenant in the US Govt warehouse, and the U.S. Govt brand on the box is gradually being burnt away by the Ark. This scene is missing from the DVD release of the film.


Ill do some more digging, but if anyone else can back me up on this it would be useful. It may just be a UK thing, but if so how many people on this board are in the UK?

The BBFC have confirmed to us that Paramount have submitted the previous cut version of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for release in the upcoming DVD set. Interestingly when asked if the uncut version would get a 12 or a 15 certificate the BBFC would simply say "We can't speculate as to what certificate the full version would get without seeing it again." The Raiders info is bullshit. The "alternate ending" never happened. The title of Raiders is exactly the same. They didn't change the movie, just the art work.

Looks like this is something of an urban myth. The only thing I can find thats solid is 24 cuts from Temple Of Doom in the UK, although the only scene mentioned is the removal of the heart in the cage scene. Ive got a Laserdisc on the way, so Ill try to find out with that.

With regard to Raiders, I think people are getting confused with the Nazi logo being burnt from the box.

The new release next week may be the 2 DVD release of Superman: The Movie (extended version). I'm expecting it in the mail and will try and get it out asap.

Well...it looks like Rikter is "scooping" me on the Superman discs. He'll probably get them up sooner than I can at this point. Guess they won't be a "digitalfreaknyc" release.

a bunch of the upcoming releases are going to be Dual Layer only? Is there anyway for people without DL burners to burn those still?

You'll just have to use DVDshrink or a similar program to shrink it down to the size you need. I know The Game will definitely be dual-layered. Not sure about any others.

I've been highly anticipating these but I ended up putting them at the bottom of my download queue to all that stuff segaflip's been posting to the newsgroup. I figured news servers only keep messages for a few weeks while torrents have a longer life. Unfortunately, these torrents aren't looking too hot as far as the seeders go.
