Minecraft PlayerSo we all know the famous Obi-Wan Kyrat Dragon call right? It's so famous that Lucas can't seem to stop messing with it. So let's see why it's keeps getting changed
1977\1997: The original leaves you having 2 thoughts: (1) Oh, I'd hate to run into that creature! (2) I wonder how they made that sound.
2004: This new version sounds cool, but it basically sounds like they changed the pitch of the original
2011: Oh, don't get me started on this on. You want to know how they made this sound? Take a sound recording device. Stick it outside of a bathroom. Go into the bathroom, close the door. Go the the wall that's farthest from the door, and start making groans (like you have to take a real bad crap, but it won't come out). Now that that crap-groan recording, run it throughout a sound editing software and add an echo effect to it. And you have something known as the "Krapt Dragon" call.

For the 2011 version they intentionally made it cheesy for some reason:
An interim crow sounds was first tried before Burtt arrived and recorded Wood and Acord in the parking lot behind the tech building. " He sourced it from Dave and me yelling", Wood says. "We screamed and screamed. I was trying to model mine off this terrible cheesy element that i love from a Disneyland ride, The Haunted Mansion. : ah, ah, ahooooaah!"
Ultimately, Burtt blended the screams- with Acord starting the scream and Wood ending the scream. "It sounds like some kind of weird animal but coming from a human, "says Wood
Christ. I just listened to it and the 2004 version. I had forgotten how bad the SE's are as I haven't watched them in a couple of years. Bad memories are flowing back.

Yeah. But wouldn't you think that the Blu-ray version would be the thing to restore the original sound? I guess not. Just like that added rock. If someone can tell me how R2 got behind that rock and into the cave, let me know...

I've wondered that as well.
Wait, what if R2 is actually has Force powers? That means he moved the rock in front of him. Then he Force Pushed it out of the frame. I knew it. The Force is strong with this one.
LOL. That would be funny. I can see George Lucas talking about it right now. "I've always felt that R2 never has that big of a role. Due to the budget and limited effects, I could never fulfill that vision. But thanks to today's technology, I can now give R2 the role I've always wanted. I can now have a lightsaber fight between R2 and the Jawas, he can finally fly a Snowspeeder and fight the AT-ATs, R2 will use his rocket boosters on the Sail Barge instead of falling of the edge."

I don't like sand, it's so....sandy.Same here, I'm even in a position where I can't watch any of the SEs anymore. I just can't see how anyone could justify those changes in the 2011 version, especially since all it seems is to create more problems (consistency) than solve. Seems like just an excuse to change things for the newer release.
But at least there were a few changes that did things right, like making Luke's saber blue again on the Falcon (well not completely), extending the TIE fighters laser blast and removing the 'Humdinger' glitch.

A légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal.I dunno, I'm clearly biased because I hate the SE's categorically, but I figure if you tolerated the changes made in '97, the other changes since then are just gravy. On the revisionism train, if you were already in for a mile, you're in for another inch and a half.
A few (ridiculous) audio changes and a (ridiculous) boulder? Please. It's not even on the same order of magnitude as dinosaurs roaming Mos Eisley and CGI Jabba. It's like Lucasfilm has relegated the task of destroying film history to its interns.
Why some people were apparently cool with Jedi Rocks but were suddenly up in arms about Vader's "Nooo" was always kinda baffling to me. If I knew anyone who walked out of the theatre in 1997 happy, I'd have no hesitation recommending the Blu-rays to them.

I originally thought that the 2011 call was a joke, just like all the other parodies created in response to Vader's "Noooo!" change in Jedi. Boy, was I in for a surprise...

Yes. I think that Lucas has been intent on destroying his films. Maybe the next Special Edition will have a bunch of Jawas and Dinosaurs walking around the Death Star. I would love to see that. (that sentence is sarcastic.)
Jedi Rocks is another different matter. I like the song, only the song and not the whole animated scene, for one reason: the song is catchy. But I don't get why Lucas just didn't keep the Lapti Nek song and just replace the puppets with CGI characters. I admit that the puppet Sy Nootles always moved a little funny.
Now, the Blu-ray is fine, but there's just a few things I hate. Besides the bigger Jabba door, the "No", and a few other things, I hate the ship boxes. If you don't know what I'm talking about, put in BD IV and go to where the Falcon takes off from Tatooine. Watch the Star Destroyers carefully and you'll see some weird brown areas. I hate those. They're in every shot of a ship.
These boxes were not in the original release VHS's, they're not in the SE's, and they're not in the original release DVD's from 2004. If they were in the original version, I could understand that, all the limits of technology could not erase them.

Keeper of the Taco Sandwich*waves hand* - Those aren't matte boxes, they're deflector shields!
(but yeah, they've always been there, they just weren't able to remove them with primitive 1997, 2004, or 2011 technology)
If Lucas hadn't sold the films to Disney, would the next release have replaced the Krayt Dragon call with the sound Jar-Jar makes before diving into the water in TPM?

Those "boxes" are an artifact of the original effects, they've been there from day one. They're called "garbage mattes". I'm surprised you're seeing them in the Bluray, seeing as the blacks levels are f***ed up, you shouldn't be able to see them. Whereas you could've seen them in one of the VHS releases, as those releases were brightened to compensate for old crt sets.
Diagnosis: your tv is not properly calibrated.
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

My Tv is calibrated correctly and the garbage mattes, especially in ROTJ are visible.

See You, Space Cowboy...Honestly, I think I like the 2004 call if only because it's not a recycled Bantha call. It's a little less threatening, but still sounds cool by me.
The blu-ray sound is a travesty. I could probably learn how to mix a better sound in a community college class.
