4 mkv files, one for each program. The first three are about 3 gb each and the fourth is almost 5 gb. You still need program 3?

RE: The Godfather Saga - HD Restoration

I have nice idea Godfather saga in HD

AMC channel screened The Godfather: A Novel for Television in HD
with remastered deleted scenes , not matted to 16:9.
But version is cuted viollence and nudity,

I dont know if they will release SAGA on Blu-Ray
But if they do that I think it will be CUTED SAGA

2 solution
Use Blu-Ray, re-edit it in chronologically and insert deleted scenes from AMC HDTV
with others scenes from VHS, LD

or

Use AMC HDTV rip and add violence, nudity and deleted scanes from Blu-Ray, VHS, LD

That will be best edition for UNCUTED Godfather Saga in HD

And all respect to fanedits who was worked on Godfather Saga last years

digitalfreaknyc,

There are seven people seeding Part 3 on TV Vault right now. I'll be seeding it too once I get it.

Thanks guys. I was downloading from a different site and getting nothing.

Now I had to download a different client to get it from THIS site.

What a PITA just to do this one part! I hate my DVR right about now.

Guys...

I should have this completed by the end of the week. Any ideas on the easiest way to upload 50GB's? :) lol

Here is an example of the difference between the DVD deleted scene, the laserdisc version of the Saga, and the AMC HD version:

There's a noticeable green tint on the HD, also more information at the sides, but less top and bottom. Generally an improvement, moreso when seen up closer as you can see below:

I cannot wait for this project to be completed. Nice of you to do this, digitalfreaknyc!

I saw The Godfather Saga a long time ago and it was very well done. To potentially having it in HD is a dream come true.

Would anyone by chance have a TV Vault invite I could use? Having trouble getting all of the Saga downloaded off that Vietnamese site. I have Demonoid and thebox.bz (rare British shows) invites I can exchange.

Thanks

I still have 45 invites that I've accumulated but never used, so I'll invite you and anybody else who PMs me with their e-mail address.

jwuk...please note that my version will be 1080i with extras.

The TV Vault version is 720p with no extras.

RE: The Godfather Saga - HD Restoration

Excellent, can't wait! I was eager to check out the saga in 720p in the meantime, I've previously only seen a bad quality version cobbled together from laserdisc/vhs, etc. Mainly wanted to see how good the picture is (seems excellent at just 720p, compared it to my blu-ray and aside from a slight colour difference it seems comparable) and how much has been edited for TV (as I expected, some minor cuts to some overly violent scenes like Don Ciccio being murdered, nudity and the one use of the "f" word, although thankfully Michael killing Solotzo and McClusky has been left totally intact).

I'd be quite interested in replacing any edited scenes with the ones from the blu-ray if I get time, there seems to be very little difference in the picture aside from a slightly more greenish tint to the AMC version (ditto with the DVD) which is barely noticeable unless you compare screens side to side, so switching between the two wouldn't be jarring.

There is also a Godfather Chronology fan edit (some of you may know about it) which compiles every known piece of footage (including from part III) into one 10-hour film. It's taken from laserdisc/dvd/vhs, etc though so quality is average and at times quite poor.

RE: The Godfather Saga - HD Restoration

What we  really need is for someone to update moderknifes fan edit with the restored extended scenes. that would give us the 10 hour version fully uncensored  and with all scenes in hd

jwuk45's avatar
RE: The Godfather Saga - HD Restoration

The modernknife edit isn't in HD though

The toning down of the violence is regretable. Like the iconic scene when De Niro is using a towel for a silencer and it starts to burn. They cut out that whole shot in the saga. And when Vito stabs Don Ciccio, and the end of the tollbooth scene when Sonny is being massacred.

It would be cool if someone just restored at least those three scenes into the HD version of the saga using the blu-ray, and as jwuk45 said, it wouldn't look too jarring.

Well, wouldn't it be best to take the Blu-Ray of I and II and edit it to match the AMC version, only leaving in the AMC shots when they're different?  That way it's uncensored, and in the best possible quality.

The downside would be that the AMC logo, instead of always being there, would only pop up for extended scenes/shots, disappearing for the rest of the movie, which could be distracting.

It is possible to remove (or at least, make less visible), logos with free software such as this http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/capture/delogo.html

You would think, this is exactly what I was thinking, not only would it be uncensored as you say, but it would be the best quality for sure, this is what I would do, strange.

That would be the way to do it, but obviously requires much more time and effort. Also the music would have to fit the scenes as well.

I've seen some samples of the AMC transfer, and it looks great. The AMC logo doesn't bother me that much, but the censoring of crucial scenes is kinda frustrating.

You would also have issues with the transitions for the flashbacks.

Remember, totally different edit for Part 2.

RE: The Godfather Saga - HD Restoration

Which is what you'd use the AMC shots for, right?  You could even use the AMC audio, just replace any censored parts with the Blu-Ray audio when necessary.
