I'd like to see an theoretical edit, having the duel start as the han/leia/luke flee to the falcon, and then continue during the tie fighter battle/death star escape. This was done in a trailer for MMO - Old Republic and is really dramatic.
Along Bingo's thoughts though, does luke ACTUALLY need to SEE obi-wan get killed though? If the fight begins far from the hangar and ends far from the hangar, could luke be seen to feel a tremour in the force?
Oh yes this one.
I still think it would be impossible to get the requisite emotional kick of Obi-Wan's
death if Luke doesn't see and respond to it.

Magister Pontifex MaximusIt might lead to a tonal missmatch but it might be interesting to move the line about Vader sensing something, to the point after the battle on the Tantive.
He is orbiting the planet on which he was born, where his son and his former mentor live and he is on the same ship as his daughter.
He instinctively knew that Hoth was where Luke was based on one probe reading.
He could sense Luke (and maybe Leia on the Tydirium) so it might be an intreging direction to go for a SE edit.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

Magister Pontifex MaximusI echo these sentiments.
It would be great to see Y-Wings in some kind of dogfight action over the Death Star.
Those big guns would be fun see spinning around and aiming.
