Do you, or possible anyone else, have the one hour version of the phantom menace? Or the lone gungan edit?

If not, mayhaps someone might point me to the otherwise most decimated version of tpm?

The currently available official cut is about 136mins so The Phantom Hour is more than decimating the film (if it was decimated it would still run for over 2hrs).

It would run about the same time as TMBTM's silent movie versions which have the added benefit of not having to hear the terrible dialogue.

That is currently my preferred way of seeing all six films together.

Yes, I know that decimating something means taking off a tenth, but I was hoping you'd understand it as the common usage to mean severely destroyed.

Is there any version so short, available anywhere? Because I haven't been able to find any.

Arguably the official version is a broken as it could get.

The silent version (which fixes the PT to a large extent) is on fanedit.info hopefully Frink will be around in a minute to point you in the right direction of The Phantom Hour.

If you don't mean reduced by one tenth you really shouldn't use the only word that means it.

Especially when I'm around ;-D

Daneditor is the same guy as yads, the guy who edited the Lone Gungan Edition.  You can always send him a PM here and I know he'd be happy to provide you with an AVI.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

Password for all ROTJ-related clips: ROTJ

A very rough edit of how the Battle of Endor could go
A very rough idea of how ROTJ could end

Rough edit based on the final script with some deviation:

Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 4

Lazy use of the language has allowed it to drift into meaning that informally to some people, much like using the word "song" for any piece of music regardless of whether it has lyrics or not but it is the only word that means to reduce by one tenth.

There are plenty of words that mean destroy (like destroy) or to reduce (like reduce) or to compress, condense, précis, shrink, distill or concentrate.

So don't make me marmalise you ;-D

Can we get back to useful discussion again, please?

I'd really like to know where I can get a version of the phantom menace without the gungan city and without the gungan ground battle.

You started it :-P

You seem to have very exacting parameters for a Phantom Menace edit.

I don't mean to be funny (well not all the time) but have you considered actually doing it yourself?

You might have to twiddle the dialogue so Jar-Jar offers to take the Jedi to the Naboo city instead of the Gungan city and cut straight to rescuing the queen.

You could have it that Jar-Jar has been banished to the planet so no other Gungans live there.

You'd have to cut the victory celebrations but that's no real loss, you could end on the funeral.

Some of the Gungan battle could be recycled to be the droid army moving in on the city.

Oh I have thought about editing it many times. I think I already have my perfect edit in my head.

Maybe I'll look into doing it this weekend. If I would work on anything like this it'd either take along time or become a type of workprint since I have zero editing experience.

I'd love to see my ideas brought out there, and see people's reactions though.

Just a pesky request. Since you're in the process of uploading JasonN's prequel edits, might I ask that you upload Ep3 next instead of Ep2? It'd be much more useful sooner.

Was gonna do those at the same time.  Are you more interested in the dvd5 or dvd9?

DVD9, for best possible quality source for upscaling.

I've just sent the Mega links to Akratus.

Personally I'm kind of embarrassed by that edit, but hopefully he'll enjoy it anyway.

Well, I haven't got my review quite ready. But I can tell you that I was amazed at how much you changed. I LOVED the new music. The luke themes when Anakin leaves are so freaking perfect. In the way that you changed the music you changed almost everything, you altered dialogue, the story, the pacing, the structure. And I just loved that. I've always held the view that just about every Phantom Menace edit changed far too little. It's silly to me that anyone can say that the movie is fixed by streamlining it and just cutting things without altering anything else. So yeah, great edit. Not without flaw, but you'll read that in my review.
