I don't know, most of us don't usually get too bent out of shape when someone makes a wild claim, unless it's a habitual thing.

I can think of two or four other people to whom this rule might apply... ;)

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish memes.

1e) Most (all?) browsers support a spell-check feature.  Use it, especially if it can be automated.

Well, actually, in my experience, an automated spell check can do more damage than good, sometimes you willingly use a word that the spell check doesn't recognise and it changes it into some nonsense. Words like "rotoscoping" can be automatically changed to something like "hygroscopic"  ;-)

To be fair, not all spell-checkers are automatic. Google Chrome's just underlines a misspelled word and leaves it up to you to correct, for better or for worse.

Yeah, sure, that's what I meant, that it's better to use this kind of spell check than the automated one.

12) Don't Complain About How You Are Being Treated

I'm not so sure I like this rule.   If you feel you are being wrongfully treated, why shouldn't you be able to stand up for yourself?

RE: TV's Frink's Guide To Sensible Posting (Or: How Not To Be A Target)

Perhaps saying "save complaints for private messages with the abusers/mods" would be more appropriate. There are certain people that have played the victim, so ti speak, but there also are other cases where complaints would be justified.

I meant that kind too - automated in that it notifies you automatically, not that it changes it automatically.  I'll reword it.

Abusers? :-0

I'll probably include something like that in the writeup.

@Warb, you should absolutely be able to stand up for yourself.  But if you are acting lame (i.e. you're not following the tips), and you complain about being attacked for it, it will only get worse the more you complain.

bkev's avatar
RE: TV's Frink's Guide To Sensible Posting (Or: How Not To Be A Target)

Abusers as in those you feel are attacking you.

RE: TV's Frink's Guide To Sensible Posting (Or: How Not To Be A Target)

So...perceived abusers :p

Anyway, updated 1e:

1e) Most (all?) browsers support a spell-check feature.  Use it, especially if it has an auto-notify feature such as the red underline in Firefox.  At the same time, don't use it blindly.  Don't let it change "bluescreen" to "smokescreen," for instance.

I'm not sure what that has to do with this.  Protestants don't have a Pope.   I am also a Protestant, a Methodist to be precise.
