I am ready for the trials! The OT movies have been on Spike all weekend, and I noticed this is what it says about the movies when you hit the info button:
Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back (1997) Reissue of the 1980 Classic follows Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance in their continuing star wars with Darth Vader.
Before it used to say (1980) and no mention of 'reissue' either.
Do you think this is good or bad? Atleast they mention it's a reissue, so newer fans will have some reference that there was an older version.

My provider offers a different program description:
Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back
Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford (1980) Yoda teaches Luke Skywalker to be a Jedi knight, and Han Solo woos Princess Leia, as Darth Vader returns to threaten the rebel forces trying to save the galaxy. (2:04). Sci-Fi [PG/TV-PG] V (hearing impared sign) ****
I would say that's a good sign, but also might mean they've changed what they are airing since they've gotten the contract.
Or could mean that who ever is in control of those blurbs on your provider is a SW fan and took the initiative and changed it, as my provider has a blurb closer to what you remember seeing and doesn't reflect that it's the Special Edition.
here's RotJ:
Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi
Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford (1983) Luke Skywalker, now an experienced Jedi knight, tries to discover Darth Vader's identity. (2:13). Sci-Fi [PG/TV-PG] L,V (hearing impared sign) *** 1/2

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderComcast always describes the OT as George Lucas's re-edit and lists the date as 1997. It's always the 04.
VADER!? WHERE THE HELL IS MY MOCHA LATTE? -Palpy on a very bad day.

yavasizadooI've noticed the description too, and I think it's a GOOD thing.
People should know they are NOT watching the original versions of the films. It infuriates me when they try to pass off Star Wars '97 as Star Wars '77.
AFI did some sort of a film festival a few years back, and they were showing a print of SW (1997, of course since GL was also scheduled to speak at the event) but it was listed in the online program as "1977". I sent them an email (as did several other people here, I think) and they ended up changing the listing, by removing "1977" as the year of release.

I am ready for the trials! And I don't think the originals shall be ever shown again on TV. I want you all to think hard and long about this. Do you honestly think GL is going to ever repent his ways and release the originals again in any format or any broadcast? Is he going to listen to anyone, in particular some fringe website on the internet few people (less than 500,000) know about? Sorry to say it, but GL has put his boot on our faces for good, and the OOT as we know it will no longer exist outside of bootleg copies. Let's be honest here, there is very little chance that we will see LFL cave in again and release something even among the lines of the GOUT. GL has said the final word on the originals years ago and you cannot admit that. I'm sorry that I have to take a defeatist attitude, but deep down it is the only option left to us. You can go ahead and vent on the internet about this, but you cannot change what has happened. GL has committed a serious cultural crime, I know that, but no matter what you think or do, you cannot alter that fact. The direction of SW over the last 15 years has gotten further and further away from the OOT, and there is no doubt that LFL will be less caring about the OOT in 2025 as they are today.
Sounding like a broken record since May 2006.

I am ready for the trials!I doubt anybody here is actually thinking that. It's just a little crack of light in the darkness that somebody at Spike actually knows which version is which.
And 500,000 might not seem like a lot of people until you try and make a dinner reservation. ;)
I have to wonder if Spike can keep running the movies during the window of the Blu Ray release?

When you start a post with "Lucas repenting his ways," it's the same old shit. You don't even need to read any further to know what the rest of the content will be.

If we didn't keep seeing the same old shit arguments, you wouldn't keep seeing the same old shit replies. Actions have consequences.

Outside of fan edits, preservations, OT/SE-change-analysis and Behind-The-Scenes investigations, there's nothing more to say.

I am ready for the trials! The guide is set by the cable provider. I noticed that comcast listed it as the re edit but other companies might not.
Spike tv has nothing to do with this as far as I know.
