If it was at least a privately owned copy I would have bought it and sent to you but the "ex-rental" scares me. At least the Tele+ broadcast doesn't have any of the typical VHS problems.

Interesting that it exists. If it's the same as the broadcast, it would lend credence to it being the WB cut, or would it just plunge us into a deeper abyss of confusion? ;)
As for "ex-rental" that Betamax copy from hell I have was a rental copy, and seems to have been lightly used. Either because it's a beta, or THX wasn't something people rented out a lot.
Where were you in '77?
I should be the same version that we have.

I think it is safe to say that the Italian cut are at least pretty damn close to what the WB-cut was in its editing, going by their very similar length.

I have often heard that rental tapes were made in higher quality because of the wear and tear they had to endure, don't know if it is true or not but it seems logic to me, the cases and casettes were at least made sturdier. When I was young and stupid I often copied rental tapes for their supposed quality and opened up the casettes and swapped the tape with my copy before I returned it, don't tell anyone. ;)
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

A rental tape actually would be a good source. They're generally durable and would certainly be better than the recording at present. If one resurfaces, it may be a worthy thing to get. For example, my Star Wars 1982 Rental VHS plays flawlessly like a brand new video and physically looks fantastic.
LOL msycamore at that anecdote involving the rental tapes. You didn't happen to take anything valuable. Did you?

Well, I'm not proud of it, it was at a time before I started to value and appreciate buying the films I actually wanted. Young and stupid... I had a few gems but my collection of tapes along with my player are now gone, I sold everything about ten years ago.

They didn't have those silver anti-tamper seals on rental tapes over there?
Where were you in '77?
Yes, we had those seals as well but not all of them had them for some weird reason, also remember that some tapes had copy-protection. Anyway, I may get a copy of the Italian even though I not own a working player anymore, I actually still own a few tapes I would like to digitize so another one wouldn't hurt.

Let me know if you need any help with the purchase... you know, with the language and such
erri or should I say thxita, can you please check if they take orders outside of Italy, and also what it costs. Do you also happen to know if they are well regarded, knowing someone doing business with them before?
I have started to get rid of a lot of junk on my HD to free up some space for this project and will begin work on this again, after my little break I finally feel the urge to continue with this again. As you know the IVTC is already done on SilverWook's capture, it's the 15 minutes segment with our white little friend and framing issue, restore the opening titles and logos and audio syncing which is left to do, it will certainly take some time for me but I'll keep you updated.

Thanks for the update. :)
Here is a UK VHS cover I've not seen before...
Someone grab the full size image for the archives?
Where were you in '77?
I've never dealt with them and I don't see any reviews but the website doesn't look dodgy. I would buy with confidence. They even have some Super8, for extortionate prices of course.
Apparently you can pay with paypal, which is a plus. You can also select shipping to a different part of the world (sweden included) and more importantly you can buy without the need to register to their website.
You should click on
AGGIUNGI AL CARRELLO (add to the basket)
then select ACQUISTA SENZA REGISTRARTI (purchase without registering) and click CONTINUA
Fill in the form:
Nome - Name
Cognome - surname
codice fiscale - Social Security Number (don't know why is mandatory but it is, I doubt they would know if you put a fake one in case you don't want to give it, considering that it's made for italians)
Telefono - telephone
Indirizzo 1 - address 1
Citta - city
CAP - postcode
Nazione - country (sweden in your case)
Provincia - here you select the swidish town your locality falls under
Let me know if you need more help
Shipping to Italy is 10.90 so it's a regular Poste Italiane packet, insurance is extra. However I have no idea how much would be the postage to Sweden. I read on their website that it should be requested in advance the shipping quote for foreign countries. I just sent them an email asking a quote for Sweden.

Are you dealing with that msycamore?
Ok they just told me it's 9 euro postage to Sweden in recorded mail (that's tracked up to the Italian border)
21 euro in total then, I'll give it a shot. Thank you so much for the help erri! :)
I'm not sure what english VHS edition that is, the old Blue Dolphin release is similar but looked a little different.

msycamore, is getting a working PAL format VHS deck going to be a problem?
Where were you in '77?
No, no problem at all. I will just borrow a player from a friend. I have a few players to choose from.

Glad to hear it. :)

Tried to place an order but for some reason that site doesn't accept my Social Security Number, it just gives me an error.:(

That's a very personal bit of info they are requesting isn't it?
Any vendor asking for that here would raise a red flag.
Where were you in '77?
I wouldn't share my Social Security with a vendor if I could help it. Getting a good version of THX-1138 would be great but not at the risk of your own security.
Yeah, I didn't give them my real one, probably why it didn't work.

I doubt they would know since our codes are much different. You may try generating your own Italian codice fiscale here http://www.codicefiscale.com/
"Comune di nascita" put SVEZIA
or from here http://gratis.pietrelcinanet.com/codice_fiscale/codice.htm in "scegli comune" you click ESTERO and select SVEZIA
If still doesn't work I'll email them asking what could you put there.
Silverwook I'm not surprised by the request of the social security number though. In Italy it's quite commonly requested and we still don't have many cases of identity theft, that's a concept I only learnt in the UK and from Family Guy lol.

Interesting... As an American, I'm unfamiliar with such practices. LOL at you learning about identity theft from Family Guy; that episode was hilarious.
