We must save Gargoyles!

That's me on the right. I'm Nathan Fillion ;)

Sigh.  I wish I was Nathan Fillion...

Or Jewel Staite.  Either one, I guess...

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming... Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

If anyone reading would like to help out preserving forums.starwars.com, please visit the ArchiveTeam.org irc chat room for this project. #archivestrikesback irc.efnet.org

Especially if your a Linux user (there's a script for coordinating downloads) with grep 2.6.2, bandwidth to spare and multiple GBs of harddrive space to save thousands of 4k-12k .html files.

If you don't fill the above criteria (like myself) but can wget, stop on by.

thanks

There basically has not even been a real starwars.com site for years, they got rid of the good old site and replaced it with some video thing, and flash media crap.

Lots of old material missing or deleted, and hyperspace never turned out like they promised, and the magazine insider  itself now sucks.

What did they promise?

Good Material to make it worth our while, not just old bantha tracks and some rare pics that they suddenly stopped posting material on the oot.

They said maybe they would put up  the old documentaries well now that 3 of them are on the blu ray, guess we know what the holdup was.

Prequels crap dominated the site and special edition revisionism, now its just clone wars crap.

Guess i should not have said promise, they did hook fans with possibilities of future offerings.   And i don't mean paltry discounts on overpriced action figures, which i don't buy or collect.

It's almost too perfect.  Most of the team attempting to save forums.starwars.com have never seen the movies.

As Hyperspace services officially ended as of December 31, 2011, we wanted to give you the opportunity to retrieve whatever content you have posted to your official StarWars.com Blog before they are completely retired in 60 days.

This may sound like typical non-PT-fan cynicsm, but I do honestly believe they shut down the forums because they essentially took over TF.N. That site did lots of business with the official site and had lots of cross-talk and business dealings. TF.N was always better respected and more popular for their forums, so I have this suspicion that they just decided to jump into TFN for the fan-oriented extensions of the site like blogs and forums. Of course, I have nothing to prove any of this, but I know they do business together and it would certainly explain the "direction" both sites have been moving towards in the last two years.

Sorry, I got all hysterical.  I think this transgendered thing, whatever it is, must be contagious.

I guess when you came across the word transgendered and didn't understand it you looked it up right away (we have at least one transgendered person on these forums btw).

There are plenty of cases of avatar transvestitism on here.

I don't mind reading girly posts, I like girls.

Not caring to find out what it meant was actually my very favorite part of his post.  It's the pure distillation of willful ignorance.  I want to frame it.

I'm surprised TFN ever recovered from the whole "Yoda farts in Episode III" affair. You would think Lucasfilm would be more interested in facebook and twitter these days. Online forums are so last decade. ;)

And David, it's probably a liability for an aspiring documentary maker not to know what certain terminology means in the 21st century.

Where were you in '77?

RE: Starwars.com closes its forums

Agreed. (also, "the Yoda farts" what now?) Anyway I prefer the term "Transmorpher" personally. From what I can tell, TFN is essentially the Alamo for those guys (the last place left where the post -'97 dogma is still super sacred or whatever) but in the long run I can't imagine that being good for them. It only took 8 or 9 zealots to make it thoroughly unpleasant there (you could name them if you spent about a week) and chase away any interesting talk/casual shooting the shit.
