Issue 38 contains the "The Empire Strikes Out" article.
...and in the comments section:
. . . George Lucas has made a movie even more racist and sexist that the first. I would think that Billy Dee Williams would resent being the token black in the film. Also, there was only one other woman, apart from Carrie Fisher, in the movie. Additionally, I think it says something about the acting in the
film when the most fascinating character is three feet tall and green.

I am ready for the trials!Just think how upset a person had to be back then to actually write out a letter, and lick a stamp just to see their comments in print!
It's so darned easy today, and nobody on the editorial staff to reject your letter for being too slanderous or too deranged. ;)

Another phun letter...
Issue 39 comments section:
. . . Somebody should tell Harrison Ford that
when a woman passionately tells a man, "I love
you," "I know" is not an acceptable response.
That scene was not funny, it was infuriating. At
least I know who to blame for one of those obnox-
ious "love scenes." Now who's responsible for
the rest of them? They totally ruined an otherwise
wonderful movie.

I am ready for the trials!Someone who clearly didn't understand Han's character.
The 2008 documentary Stanley Kubrick's Boxes actually tracked down someone who wrote a negative fan letter about 2001. I wonder how many of these non fans of ESB are still around, and if they feel the same way thirty years on?

Well it is all fine seeing it purely from Han's character. But realistically, I don't think many girls would find such response welcome. It is very selfish, arrogant and rude if you look at it from a girl's perspective. I doubt any of you guys is willing to try that in real life (no matter how "tough" and "cool" character you have). :)
It is almost like "I made you a dinner darling"... "I know, bring me a beer too".
Prequel Trilogy was supposed to be a story about a good man turning bad. In reality, it is a story about how a complete jerk (PT Anakin) turned into one of the best characters in film history (OT Vader)

This Jeanette Vogelpohl seems to still live at the same address, could be in her 60s. She's got a son, Scott in his 30s, who could be this individual: https://www.facebook.com/nleseul If anyone uses that website and could send a polite letter, feel free.

How many girls are a leader in a rebellion who's had their entire planet blown up, fallen in love with a space pirate/scoundrel who was initially only interested in money to rescue her, and now have to watch said scoundrel being potentially frozen to death at gunpoint? Context is everything. ;)

Beset by Creatures of the DeepI bet the "kid" doesn't even know that his mom wrote a letter to Starlog, and would be excited to know this. I'll contact him, but only if nobody else has already done so....
Has anyone?
