out of curiousity, do you intend on keeping any elements of the SE? for instance, alot of people don't object to the infinite hallways change, or a few matte painting changes or slight clean-ups, but of course they weren't in the original theatrical versions

He's keeping the hallway change, as it doesn't affect the narrative at all. I've no problem with that decision. (though I, myself, would just keep it as is.)

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They're certainly beyond any repair you're capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren't one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can't say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won't suck as much as a fan edit.

oooh I'm with mverta on this one.

I think the whole point of restoring from the DVd SE release is that you can keep all of the nascent changes people have wanted for ages and which an actual proper original trilogy release would havehad anyway. example, the detention corridors, digital recompositing of stuff to remove matte lines etc. al of that restores but does bnot change the original.

It is an extremely fine sounding project, with such painstaking care to make it perfect.

All I can say is it's a damn shame you aren't selling them. I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

Why don't you use the 1997 SE ld's as this had none of the lowry cleanup work on it and is closer to the original films.

Just a suggestion.

Well, for me the quality of the SE LD is still far far below the DVD release.
The colour issues and so forth are easily fixed on the DVD, but you just can't recover detail from the laserdisc that isn't there in the first place. So the DVD is still my #1 choice for the bulk of the footage, but I'll take another look at the SE laserdiscs to see if some of the footage to 'put back' is better quality than the faces/Definitive set.

I'm working on footage which I know I'm preserving from the DVD (there's still a ton to do) while I'm continue to pursue sources for the LD footage. I'll be curious to see what your feelings are for the LD source, as sooner or later, I'll need it...

I've seen comparison pics from the 97 SE ld's, and they would need even more color correction. They're very screwy, colorwise., And soft too, from what I've seen. Not as much as the Faces discs, but still not right. I'll tell you too, it urks me that the "restoration" algorythm Lowry used actually ERASED the original starfields! Can you believe that crap?!

Mike,
I see you're on here again, why do you not answer my PMs about the order? I really did not want to bring this to you publicly but I would appreciate an answer as to its status, since I have sent you an email and 2 PMs regarding it.

1) I didn't notice the PM's until just now. This board is pretty subtle about them.

2) On the order page, I very clearly put, "Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery" in big bold type. I wasn't kidding.

3) If you feel airing publicly your lack of patience, and failure to understand the terms you agreed to is productive somehow, knock yourself out, but I doubt it's going to have much effect on the space/time continuum. You ordered on 10/6. 4-6 weeks is still 4-6 weeks.

4) As I mentioned to you the last time you sent me impatient emails about why it would take so much time to put a shirt in a bag, etc., I do have your size in hand, and will be getting out as soon as I get a chance. Or I can cancel your order and send you your 20 bucks back. Your call.

5) Thank you.

_Mike

Updates 11/03 - TRAINING REMOTE, and TRACTOR BEAM CONTROL sections. I'll be jumping back and forth in the film from now on, so don't worry - I didn't miss anything.

Mike, I checked your updates and they really are incredible. I find it so amazing that Lucasfilms' army of FX people could miss what one man did not. My only complaint is that some pics are too small to really appreciate your work. Even something as small as the "green saber" looks worlds better then the DVD. Nice work, I can't wait to see how you handle the non-SE footage.

That's great news Mike. Your work looks amazing. Can't wait to see more updates. Though I almost don't want to visit your site knowing I might never get my hands on your set. Looking at the pics I might become Gollum starring at the monitor calling them "my presious" (in Gollum voice), or in Star Wars terms go like Anakin because Obi-won's holding you down.

Mike,

Is there any plan to put up video captures of your finished scenes? The screen caps look great, and I'd love to see things like the re-rotoscoped saber in the Falcon in action.

Just wondering.
