Well there were numerous errors on Raiders' transfer, such as the blue line during the cantina scene with Belloq and I think a similar error during the digging for the Ark.

Did Paramount or Spielberg do it.  I think Lucas would have thought the old master is good enough since it was in 1080P.

Supposedly it was Spielberg, according to the digital bits guy on the HT forum. All 3 were going to come out along with Crystal Skull for xmas 2008. Spielberg wasn't happy with the quality (and apparently not happy with the cgi cliff) and put the kibosh on it.

Good thing that he pays attention to those things! I can only imagine how the conversation between him and George went when he found out he altered the movie. Then again, Raiders has been modified in the past. Wonder why the cliff was such a big deal over the removal of the reflection.

Just speculating here, but considering how long it took to get a fourth Indy film (Spielberg\Lucas\Ford having to all be on the same page), I don't get the impression that Lucas controls the Indy franchise the way he would like to.  Including the studio and two good friends\collaborators, he is just part of the team, not the controlling owner (thank God).

Because the reflection is an error that was fixed...the cliff didn't need 'fixing'.

Does anyone think the audio on the blu rays will be spectacular in HD, even with the new Obi Wan Krayt Dragon howl, or will they mess it all up again like they did in 2004.  And use incorrect takes like they did in 1997 rather than the selected takes, on the dialogue i mean.  Will the music be dialed down or flipped in the rear channels.

Just wondering if it is worth getting the blu ray for the audio content even if someone hates the 2004 edition.

I know it looks more doubtful all the time that we will ever get a newly restored set of the oot music, never mind in HD.

I would be more likely for someone to rip the LP's like 7FN did and make a DVD-A disc DTS DISC.

I'll bet kenkraly thinks the audio will be spectacular.  At any rate, why not just wait until it comes out?  There will be plenty of reviews and you'll know pretty quick how the audio is.

New as in the rumored one or the 2004 one? For that matter, was the rumor ever confirmed to be real? I still can't believe they would have something so unprofessional-sounding in the movie...

Pretty sure it was solidly confirmed, didn't Ady rip it from that Star Wars sound book? Though it looks like it was eventually changed because it's a different sound on the Star Wars soundboards.

That's some pretty interesting information.

Who controls these releases, Lucasfilm or Paramount? Obviously Lucasfilm wouldn't want a clash with SW on blu-ray but Paramount wouldn't necessarily give a crap.

2-3 years is a long time to wait for a release with supposed ready to go transfers. But then again judging from the Spielberg Jaws interview he's never been in any rush to get his films out on blu-ray.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the new Obi howl probably won't be there.

I think it was just an error in the "Sounds of Star Wars" book, but ya never know.

You will not. None of us will, except for a very old and dying Ziggy Stardust who will watch it through teary eyes as he remembers us all.

Someone on Bluray.com compared 04 release to the video from blu-ray specials with Ewan McDonald. Is to possible that it is a new transfer? Yes, the colors are still wrong (pink and blue), but the crushed blacks are not a bad as in 04. What do you think about it? I also compared it with 1977 (pictures in the middle) release on Laserdisc.

I don't think so, it's just brightened a bit but the crushed blacks seem just as bad to me.

It might be because it's a different frame, but that X-wing shot definitely has a lot more stars in it.

Someone found this:

So about 46 minuted of extended(?) scenes for the PT and about 47 for the OT. Interesting that the OT ones seem to be split into two parts. But you could probably halve that running time because there are probably introductions included in that.

Thanks for the info, adywan. Maybe the 19 minutes are for alternate versions for scenes in the movie and the other 28 minutes are for entirely deleted scenes?

They could be playing up the 'Lost Cut' angle and splitting out the SW material into it's own segment.  The 'Behind the Magic' CD-ROM material would alone eat up a third+ of this 28 minute number.

46 minutes for the PT, how much do we already have doing the addition of the three PT dvd deleted scenes?

This is what I find puzzling, for a site like AVSForum...

People go ballistic when a film released on blu ray is modified by digital noise reduction, edge enhancement, poor color timing, loss of grain, etc. I would assume most everyone on this site agrees that those are bad things. Yet many of these same people are not bothered by the fact that a classic film is being repeatedly modified- and that this modified version is REPLACING the original film, which has not yet seen an HD release (and might not ever). Not only are some people not bothered by this, but there are people who take it a step further and apparently find it ridiculous that others would complain that the original film is not available in HD.

If people can be up in arms about a release like Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition, why can't people be equally angry about not having an HD release of the original Star Wars trilogy?

Is it really that ridiculous that people are angry about not being able to watch the original Star Wars in HD?

I don't think this is the case.  Here are the LoC SE records:

Not sure what NM means.  New Medium, maybe.  So these record shows that it's a new copyright claim, but built off a previously filed one.

Excelent post over at AVS forum Zombie. I'll just quote what I said on Ady's FB page:

Hey, Ady. It's funny that two members of the OT.com should be fighting the same fight at the same time on two very similar forum but it is so. Zombie is currently fighting the same fight as you at the AVS forum. And he seems to be winning. Maybe you could quote his comment here: http://www.avsforum.com/av s-vb/showthread.php?p=2060 2722#post20602722
