Better a bad bomb than a bombadMy abusive relationship with EU novels continues, and I finished the newest novel set a billion years before "Star Wars" where everything is still more or less exactly the same as in "Star Wars."
Originallity check... what do we have:
But ultimately I liked the tale. It was a very SMALL story compared to your average EU novel. It followed four characters, and primarily involved their personal confilct against the backdrop of galactic struggle. No super weapons, no huge battles. Just characters with realistic goals (revenge, money).
One beef with it was that it was largely based on the bad-ass trailer video to the "Old Republic" MMORPG. There's a lengthy chapter that describes the trailer in minute detail, and I'm fine with that, but it includes a lot about the girl-Boba Fett from the video, who then does not appear in the novel.
Worse, later in the book it has a character WATCH the video recording of the trailer frame-by-frame, so it's all described in minute detail a second time.
Still, one of the more enjoyable EU novels I've read in a while. One I'd actually reccomend.

Ce n'est pas DuracellEnergizerI'll bet it's chockful of black-garbed, 1-dimensional, red glowstick-weilding KISS rejects, too.
God, the EU sucks more and more every year. It has definately earned its "glorified fanfiction" appraisal by now.

HA! I haven't actually lol'd in a while, that's classic! And, yeah, most of the EU is absolute garbage. I'll never understand the "if it has Star Wars on it it must be great" crowd (I'm looking at you tf.n)... And I really am a huge Star Wars nerd!...

Jedi KnightYou have not put yourself to the wonder of the torture of reading the new main line of novels not spin offs or one shots but featuring the old trilogies characters. Horrible soap opera -ish Ben Skywalker and a Sith Girl, lol.
With an insane Daala who is like a total fascist, crazy Jedi who act like elitist religious people outside the bounds of the Galactic alliance constitution and above the law, and then more generic sith because the already used the vong.
Han Solo as a doting Grandfather/father.
Worse thing they ever did was kill Chewie off.
What does Han do in his retirement when no longer a smuggler and no more Chewie, run of the mill boring crap.

Honestly, I don't mind Han as a doting, somewhat grumpy grandpa. It's been like, 60 years since the OT in that timeline. Seems appropriate.
I'll give you that the Ben Skywalker/Sith chick flirtation is terrible. She's tempting him to the darkside with middle-school level eyelash batting.
And that the genocidal Daala now portrayed as an admirable conflicted leader is poop. Were the writers that hard up for new characters?
And that in ONE GENERATION the completely new Jedi Order, founded by Luke is now exactly like the Jedi in the PT seems a little hard to swallow.

A BILLION years!? Seriously? Are the Jedi like the Nibblonians now? Even the "First Ones" on Babylon 5 aren't that old!

Jedi KnightI don't like the whole Anakin bringing balance to the force thing, or star wars being the story of Darth Vader, total revisionist lies.
Star Wars From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, and that is how it should be.

He's just exaggerating. This Old Republic brouhaha takes place around 3000 years before the movies.

Ce n'est pas DuracellEnergizerIt'll never fail to amaze me how in the old Tales of the Jedi comics, the Jedi and Sith both had lightsabers of varying colours/hues, but now in the video games/comics/etc. that take place only a few decades later they are pretty much limited to the PT variety of lightsaber colours.
Wait, did I say amaze? I meant to type "disappoint" and "anger".
God, I hate how the PT fantards have a monopoly on the EU. It isn't fair.
