Hmm, that might be a good idea.  I could try to show some shots with the corresponding DVD screenshots maybe.  The grain i'm getting figured out.  I actually just realized I had forgetten to change the grain size parameters before rendering out of AE, which is why it looks like too much.

Those comparisons look amazing. I really like the colour changes and even though the grain size was too big in the attack of the clones comparison, I still thought it looked much better than the clean, sterile and cartoon look it had before.

Can't wait to see more.

Actually I retract my previous comment.  The grain is actually the proper amount, but since there is a high amount of highlights in the picture.  The grain stands out more.  I think I need to reduce the amount of grain specifically applied to the highlights of the image.  This is true because the Geonosis image has grain applied to it under the same settings.

Okay, so I've been taking the comments about masking and i've figured out that I'll certainly do that for a LOT of scenes.  Luckily since I still keep the same background, the rotoscoping is generally easy.  This allows that previous speeder chase image possible.  The area of Coruscant will be mostly gray with colors from the OT only, but at the same time have important things such as skin tones and the fire intact.

I'll post some new comparison images that involved roto work soon.

Just testing out some new grain techniques.  I'm trying to add detail that would be there in 35mm and have realistic grain.  The colour correction also reflects a more accurate pallette.

As for the sharpening, I kind of like it but Harmy knows a lot more about this stuff then I do.

I actually like the way that has been converted to look like 35mm. Not perfect by any means, but soo much better than the previous soft digital look. A few more tweaks here and there, and it could look perfect!

I like it, it looks very similar to a film projected thru an anamorphic scope lens  its to do with the glass used ie: some use optical prisms which give the rgb coloring feel. But yeah it could be toned down a little.

Yeah please, somebody buy that print! It looks great judging by those pics.

To respond to all of you, I did realize the sharpening was a bit too much after taking a second look.  I'd really love to pull some of those fine details out, but I'll just have to try another way.

Although one reason to not sharpen is probably the deleted scenes.  If I sharpen the HD movie, the Upscaled sd deleted scenes would stand out.  I've been working on a lot with new upscaling algorithms, and I'm getting to the point that it is unrecognizable from the HD, they blend in.  Of course the fine grain helps too, so maybe absolutely no sharpening.

I see lots of people complaining about the color shift, and I think I can tone the saturation of it down to be more natural if I apply it to a separate layer and change the blending mode in AE.  It is purposeful though since I want to add a little bit of imperfectness that the OT image had.

Also,  borisanddoris the release is the full theatrical cuts plus the DVD deleted scenes, and I think maybe a couple usable BD deleted scenes like Anakin and Padme's Father (actually that might be the only usable one, I think).

In addition, I'd like to state I am also figuring out stuff with the audio.  I am trying to emulate the Ot theatrical mixes closely with the sound of the audio.  I'm testing out settings with multiband compressors, EQ's, pitch warping to make it sound like it was recorded longer ago (but not sacrificing any real quality.)

And yeah, I'd love to see that print.  Would be a great reference for color since lots of PT stuff isn't in the OT.  Can't afford $750+ right now since I just bought lot's of new software including Element 3D, which with some CGI models I can easily beat the quality of CGI in the prequels.  (Just don't expecte me to just outright redo everything, even though I'd love too. haha)  However I'm going about looking for external color reference sources.  For example, Sound Of Music is a great color reference for what Naboo should look like.
