I for one want the grain left exactly as it is in the sample. To my eyes it looks very sharp and looks more like a film print. Please do not DNR this release.
I second.
The grain adds texture to an image making it more real and authentic, whereas everything being smoothed out just makes it artificial.
It's like a pretty girl having a very thick layer of foundation thereby making her face ultra (fake) smooth compared to one that wears no make up ... I mean needs no make up at all... <quick save>

Dark Jedi KnightDon't worry, the grain is going no where, and we have our "red bleed" problem fixed, so soon we will be all caught back up to where we were.
We are doing 1 movie at a time, getting everything done that we can(the stuff for U2 and I) then moving on to the next film, my menu guy is busy at the moment and then he will have the updated menu's done, now we really would like to add the new h_h audio in with this new V2 BD Set but, if we get all our video assets done and I finish all my new audio files, as well as getting the menu's done, and all updated cover art, I am afraid that we are not going to wait much after all that, I know a lot of people would like to have, U2 and I included, but we have(especially me) spent a ton of time on this and we want to get it done and move on to other exciting projects(NON STAR WARS).
Now I am not trying to rush him at all, but with other projects nearing completion, and ours nearing completion, it might just get to late, and I honestly do not know where he even is on this new version, I do not know if he needs some more files from me, or if there is an issue or 2, I just don't know.
Well that is it for now, also the sample is no longer available.
*edit, also the above was decided by both You_Too and I, not just me, we are both wanting to finish this and move on, but at the same time We want to make this the best damn GOUT project to date, and We feel that this is going to accomplish this easily.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTThanks for all the hard work. It looks amazing to my untrained eyes, but if Adywan can even give it a thumbs up, then I'm really excited.
You've done well, Lord DJ, and now I sense you wish to continue your search for other exciting projects.
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

OK! There is a lot I do not Know.
For one I thought that THX optimizer was specific to the movie it was on. When I would watch the GOUT I would use the GOUT THX optimizer if I watch the 2004 DVD I would use the 2004 DVD THX optimizer. Are all the optimizer’s the same?
No, your first statement is correct. All the optimizers should be different to some degree.
The mind set behind THX is that the optimizer is passed through the same transfer process to the disc as the movie is. As a result any variation that occurs in the film will similarly happen to the Optimode allowing you to compensate.
Whether this is still true or not is anyone's guess, but it was at its inception.
And I don't know anyone crazy enough to recalibrate their TV every time they put a different movie on.
They might look different on different DVDs/Blu-rays, but there is only one reference for the greyscale for HDTV and that's D65, and for the color it's called Rec709. Because of this, the greyscale patterns and color/tint setting patterns can't be different, or it would make you set the wrong settings.
You can't set your screen to those references by using a THX optimizer but you can reach a correct setting on brightness, contrast, color and tint. Some people say you can set gamma correctly by using those patterns but that can't be done by eye. I know that from trying myself, and comparing with the result when using a colorimeter.
And Doctor M: I know the tweak settings for avisynth, but the plugin selective color is much better when changing each color separately. I've used tweak for that before and usually it results in blocking and weird artefacts in different scenes.
And I won't change reds anyway, since not all scenes have such strong skintones, and the ones with less saturated skin would come out as having too little color in them. I found a good balance and both me and DJ are happy with it. :)

Reginald ScumAs soon as my S/PDIF issue is corrected, I'm going to finish the new audio as quickly as possible, as I'd really like to have it included here . . .

As would We and I am sure anyone else that may be interested in BLU V2.
Are you responding to PM's these days? if so I have an audio question for you if you are.
Thanks

<..>Downloaded the sample.
I like the color choices. I'm also fine with the level of grain. However, I found the flickering/aliasing artefacts to be distracting and I think more work is needed on this.
What is your filter chain? I'm assuming you've got a stabilisation stage then an upscaling stage; if you're using AviSynth for these bits would you post your script?

You've discussed this before. I thought it was utter tosh, and unless anyone can demonstrate two different DVDs with THX optimizers patterns having differing levels, I will continue to think it's utter tosh.

I totally agree with you here M, I actually have mentioned this above already myself, and it has been brought to my attention in PM's as well, this is the only thing that bothers me now that we got the "red bleeding" issue taken care of, as much as I try not to look at it lol, my eyes still seem to zoom right in on it, We are discussing this now to see what we can do, from reading your response it seems you are willing to help?
Thanks for your feedback M, it is greatly appreciated.

Dark Jedi Knight@ hairy_hen, We are not nearing completion any longer so please take your time with your issues and hopefully we will be ready when you finish up on your end, so again, please take your time in your efforts, I am sure these will sound great when done, Thank You.
@ Everyone else, This project is on hold indefinitely for the time being, sorry.

We're both fine.
We just felt that after the setback of having to start over with the script and change our approach on the aliasing and flickering, we needed some time off this project to clear our minds, and come back later with some fresh energy and rethink some things.
Please respect this choice we made, and we'll let you be the first to know once we're back on track with it.

While it means that we'll have to wait a bit longer to see the finished product, I look at the bright side: the product we'll get will be even better. And that's worth waiting for.

I'd be happy to look at your upscaling/antialiasing method and suggest possible improvements.

Hello all:)
I'm INCREDIBLY sorry for posting this, as I'm sure it's been asked about a million times or so, but 126 pages is a lot to sift through :(
The first post says the movies are available from MySpleen, but there is no way, short of an invite, to log on to MySpleen...how does a person go abouts getting an invitation to MySpleen?
This confuses the hell out of me lol...I would LOVE to see these restorations, but I have no means of doing so...help?
...please?
lol...thanks everyone!!!

Same for me- I PM'd dark_jedi for a MySpleen invite (at the time the first post in this thread said to PM to get an invite, since edited) but didn't get a response; sorry for the faux pas if that is frowned upon.
If anyone would be willing to send an invite my way I would love to check out the restorations!
