Just a simple man?
You said ToD was a prequel that worked, but didn't feel like a prequel.
I agreed with your sentiment and said ToD isn't really a prequel, in the sense that it doesn't provide any necessary backstory to Raiders. It's another chapter in Indy's life. It is more of a sequel that takes place before the preceding film.

I was sort of glad this numbering of the Indy films was dropped after the last major VHS release in the 90's. And that they never actually retitled Raiders, except on the covers.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming... Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

But this makes me realize something. While I imagine Vader's legacy will be referenced in the new films, and could possibly be a direct influence on the villain(s), I'd really like to see them move away from Vader. I just hope it isn't something like, "New villain wants to be the new Vader."
It just makes me think how the prequel trilogy shouldn't have even introduced young Vader until the second film, as a rising young Jedi. Bah.

Magister Pontifex MaximusLeia is the new baddy.
The new protagonist is a female character too (filling in for what would have been Luke's sister in the original rough plan).
Honest.

I am ready for the trials!I guess it all hinges on whether there are any Sith surviving in the galaxy or not. I always thought Vader's look was derived from ancient Sith battle armor.
Portable iron lung suits probably don't come in default "evil and scary" designs.

Just a simple manThe way ROTS ends, I more imagined Vader's breathing suit and body armor to be something you buy at the SW galaxy's equivalent of Wal-Mart. How else could Palps have gotten it so quickly?

Just a simple manLet's expand the SW galaxy rather than shrinking it down further, with ever-connecting "poetry".
Hell, introduce Luke as a possible mentor to the young female protagonist in Ep VII, then kill him the hell off halfway through the movie. DO IT.

Just a simple manQuick google search (thanks pat man!) shows they killed him in Fate of the Jedi. Is that the EU to which you're referring?
The following has been done, too, but in the film maybe they can have Dark Luke. I love how Mark describes his ideas for ROTJ here:

Interestingly enough JJ is at the table as well. It's a nice video.

Magister Pontifex MaximusLucas has repeatedly blinked at the idea of a Sith Lady in the film series.
One is reminded of how Marvel wanted to have the Empire build a second Death Star in the comics only to have the idea halted.
Similarly Zahn wanted the Sith to be the assassin race that would later be named Noghri.
In the original rough plans for a sequel trilogy Luke's sister (not Leia) was going to be the new focus leading to a show down with the Emperor at the end who would have by then replaced Vader as the chief villain.
Replace her with a new female Jedi and replace Palpatine with a fallen Leia and you have the bare bones of a workable story template that has some links to the OT but enough variation to be it's own thing.

I agree. Vader's depth and strength were cheapened as soon as the mask was removed in Return. The prequels came along and completely did away with his weight. Time to move on.
