After having lurked on these forums for many a year, and seen all the fantastic fan created preservations, edits, expanded scores, documentaries and so on I thought it was high time I offered a little something in return to everyone.
I've always been a huge fan of the original LP presentations of the Star Wars and Empire LPs (Jedi was unfortunately relegated to single LP status, and half of that is concert suites I believe), as well as the pure analogue presentation which - in many ways - surpasses the quality of the 16-bit CDs.
I'd love to share these with others here, and have produced very high quality 24-bit/96kHz transfers of each using some pretty good quality equipment (Rega P3 turntable / Modified RB250 tone-arm with Mitchell counterweight / Goldring G1042 cartridge / Modified Creek OBH-15 phono stage... just incase anyone is interested ;) ).
My problem is I don't have a clue about DVD video/audio authoring! If I provided the raw captures, would someone here be willing to author these 24/96 files to a DVD Video, audio track (NOT 'DVD Audio' - as many players don't offer this functionality - confusing I know!) and perhaps have a few purty pictures on display per track to complete the package? I was thinking of one of Ralph McQuarrie's superb production paintings per track...

Fantastic! I did a bit of research and DVD Video does support 24/96 PCM in Stereo. This site might help you: http://www.psaudio.com/ps/forum/forumdisplay.php/viewthread/12/

It is audio only, but at least should work on a dvd player so you can listen to it in full 24/96 if the player doesn't downconvert it.
There may be other programs that will do the video too. Just be careful that it doesn't downconvert the audio.

Padawan LearnerThanks for those links Mike, but I've used LPEX and it's a bit hit or miss to say the least. I've also puchased audio dvd creator, but this can be a bit flakey too in operation. Why the bods who decide these things decided to create 'DVD Audio' discs, in ADDITION to 'DVD Video, audio tracks' is beyond me, when EVERYONE has access to 24/96 files from any DVD player using the standard DVD-Video audio track... madness Lol!
Anyways I'd like someone to make it all look professional with an appropriate picture for each track. I would look into doing this myself but am at home suffering from M.E. and the simplest tasks often seem dauting at the moment unfortunately :(
The files are all there and ready to go, I just need some DVD whiz who fancies the challange ;)

aka PancakesDo you think you could release this as a dual DVD-Video/Audio and standard CD set? I'd love to have both (the CD mainly to listen to with my iPod when I'm reading on the train and whatnot).

There is a guy on there that said he used muxman ($35) and made a single 24/96 track with a BMP for the video.

You should be able to author a simple disc like that with the free version of Muxman.

Allow me to remind you this topic (see my signature)... So we can consider it will be done by John or by me ;) !
I don' t know if such score will need to be remastered, unless if there' s a way to compensate the lost from the 24 to the 16 bit version, in term of power for exemple. We' ll see. However we agreed with John that I' ll care for the upload because of his connexion... Unless he plans to ship the score to anyone interested! :)
By the way, should I keep the original track order, or should I make it match with the original score order? For now I' m in the idea to keep the records order. Any suggestion... ?

I won' t open a new topic for it because I probably won' t take time to follow it, as to discuss it. However if anyone is interested, just PM me for the links... I give full autorisation to anyone who wants to torrent it, topic it, or whatever ! ;) Indeed it was a huge work and it would be a mess that so few people got it while almost everyone paid for the poor commercial SE. Notice that my files are in APE format and artworks in 300dpi (at last ! the original posters as covers ! :) ) are included.
