That's odd. It was there (on the 'Bay') a couple of days ago o_O

...and the tracker is still tracking it...

...and, and, I'm still seeding it...

The new version is pretty good, but I still prefer the original

His new versions of the Anchorhead scenes look better than they ever have.

Watching it now.  Loving it. Brings me back to a simplier time of Star Wars...

A+

I have the original version, and was thinking about replacing it with this new version. Any reasons not to? You said you preferred the original, the original is the only one I have seen, but I think it is great. Is there anything on it I will miss if I chuck it out and get the new one? Is the new one worth taking the time to dl?

The reason to get this new version is to check out the progress which has been made in the preservation/enhancement of lost material.  The overall presentation hasn't been modified, just certain scenes have been enhanced.  The 12fps material is now 24fps and the Jabba reconstruction incorporates additional material.  Since the well of lost material is dwindling, these are the kind of periodic updates to expect from this community, until the LFL vaults get open.

1) Switching back between 4:3 and 16:9

2) repeating some segments twice (bad editing / encoding )

3) "crushed blacks"

4) missing some features from the original DVD

....

I think the best idea is to have both versions, because the new deleted scenes look great

The interlacing in Revisisted is awful. Was this present in the original version as well?

I don't know if this would be going against the will of Mr. Gilcrhist (spell?), but is there any chance someone could just up the improved deleted scenes?

This is a little late, I know, but I'm archiving stuff off my hard drive and have just extracted the DM Revisted DVD from the Usenet downloaded RAR files. Total size is 4.44GB, yet a DVDR only has a 4.38GB capacity?

I assume the extra files (which I was going to place in a DVD-ROM folder) are not meant to be burned to disc?

Yes, he didn't recompress the full presentation, so the new higher quality material pushed the original DVD over the size limit.  But as you said, you can remove the DVD_ROM stuff to get under for the burn.

I don't know what you mean by "awful" interlacing - the way I define it, a presentation is either interlaced or it isn't. The video on the original Deleted Magic is 29.97fps interlaced - there's nothing wrong with that, and as much of it is sourced from video in the first place this was the best option IMO. In fact the only criticism I have is that the film sections were kept progressive and made up to 29.97fps by duping every 4th frame, leading to some jerky motion. Hard 3:2 pulldown would have given a smoother result.

If you check out ocpmovie's comments on the Piratebay torrent, he states which files contain the new stuff. You can set your torrent client to skip the other files if you wish.

Thanks - I hadn't realised the content was the same as the first release. I'll leave it off the burn.

Burning that one gave me fits too

I'd recommend keeping and burning the *.torrent file itself
as well as "Star Wars Published Fourth Draft.doc", "Star Wars Revised Fourth Draft.txt", "Star Wars Second Draft.DOC", "Star Wars Third Draft.DOC" and at least the first 355,077 bytes of esbversion4.doc

Doing this allows to verify the integrity of VIDEO_TS against the SHA1 hashes stored within the *.torrent file.

P.S. I dig your sig

However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

How can a dvd switch between 4:3 and 16:9. It's either one or the other and footage that doesn't fit the format is either letterboxed or pillarboxed. If I remember correctly, the first Deleted Magic was encoded in 4:3.

Why would there be crushed blacks on this version that weren't there previously?

And what's missing?

It's already posted on youtube by Garrett.

I know you despise OCPMovie, but did you see his Deleted Magic: Revisited? Was that just a gimmick or did he really add more to it that is worth downloading again for?

Yeah, I say dl the thing.  Some of the cut scenes look a lot better.  He's got just enough new stuff in there (imho) to make it worth while.

The original and Revisited are on youtube:  ocpmovie2 (for current version)

The major upgrade was in the Twixtor enhancements.  Look for 'Star Wars Deleted Scenes Restoration 24p' titles like this:
