The DTS-6 can be made to play discs without film.  If you wanted to record from it, you'd need a proprietary analog cable (DB25) and a 5 channel recording mechanism.  I really don't think it'd be worth doing things that way.

If the ROTS discs contain the encrypted AUE files, instead of the older AUD files, then the "analogue hole" method is the only way.

They do contain the .AUE files....and I suspect that AOTC might as well.

I think the encryption was introduced in 2004. AOTC is probably OK.

I'm having the damnedest time trying to figure out how to get thru the .aue files.  I'm not a coder nor do I know anything about de-compiling and all that jazz.  I've been researching everywhere I can and just when I think I got a lead I'm so damned confused that I smack my head on the desk until the pain goes away.....LOL.

The encryption was never cracked AFAIK. If you can get the DTS-6D to playback the discs without film, and record the output somehow (ideally through SPDIF?), that would be the way to do it.

BTW that processor has been re-listed on eBay starting at $75 this time.

I do know that the DTS.exe program for each disc seems exclusive to each title.  When I look at the cfg for TPM there is a choice for playing the disc without the film.....the one for ROTS does not give that choice.  I also read that cryptoloop for Linux had a weakness in it's implementation that can allow access but since I know nothing of Linux I would not know how to start.  The ROTS discs have crytoloop on them.  Linux changed their stuff around after it went public.  I know there are outside sources working on such things.

The processor at that price might yield better results.

Anyone have the extra $$ to purchase the one on eBay who'd be willing to help the cause?

Well, it looks like I am going to take the plunge and purchase a DTS-6AD processor.  If I can figure out how to hook it up via PC when it arrives maybe we can get passed some of the "hurdles" .......  I wonder if this would be a place to start....

Looks like you'll need a sound card that can accept an AES/EBU digital signal.  Unfortunately, they look really expensive.

I happen to have one.  It is an RME Digi96/8 Pro.  It works with Windows XP.  I am not sure if it helps.  Let me know if I can be of assistance somehow.

Mike,

Strangely....I "just" came across this during an internet search that has given me very little in the way of info on this subject.

http://www.rme-audio.de/download/968pe.pdf

If a DTS-6AD could be connected to an XP computer for processing the audio for ROTS, it would come in handy.  All the other movies mentioned use the .aud format.  Sith may be the only one that uses .aue.

Also, I can encode DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD, but DTS-MA is much easier work with and the app itself is far easier to use.

So what would be more beneficial to use....the DTS-6 or the DTS-6AD?  AND would something like this be needed?

On the VideoHelp forum I saw this....

i have a DTS-6 player with digital and analog output (and a DTS extended channel convertor also. to play these even on this machine you need a DTS portable generator (which i also have) and know the serial and time code of the clips in question (or the film) ..

Seems like you would want one with a db25 AES/EBU connection, similar to this:

http://www.lynxstudio.com/product_detail.asp?i=16

Otherwise, you will need some kind of converter.

Well then, were probably looking at a patchwork project for the Sith audio.  So my next question should be .....  are there any audiophile members here that might have some of the signature pieces we need to get this going?  We'd also have to pick someone to do the audio transfer with this type of equipment because I know I don't have knowledge on professional stuff like this to make a solid go at it.

(In Daffy Ducks pleading tone of voice).......Moth3r??????

Any other assistance and/or suggestions, please, bring them in.

Cheers!!!!

RE: Star Wars 1997 DTS CD-ROMs

I definitely didn't do any research, but I am thinking that the AES/EBU on my soundcard is capable of handling a stereo uncompressed signal and the db25 handles up to something like 16 stereo uncompressed signals.  Theoretically, if the device that decodes the DTS signal sends it to a db25 output, these outputs are in uncompressed digital format.  My soundcard could theoretically record two channels at a time.  Also, to take it a step further, I think you can convert from AES/EBU to S/PDIF.  So you wouldn't even need my sound card.  You could hook up to the correct two pins on the DB 25 connector and have an rca cable on the other end (maybe with some electronics in between if necessary) and record the digital signal on a sound card two channels at a time.  Just do it 3 times to get all 6 channels, time sync them, and combine them into one big file.

Again, all theory.  Just wanted to share it before doing any research.

Edit:  After a quick search, I am at least partially right: http://tcsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1305/~/interfacing-aes%2Febu-to-s%2Fpdif

I know my RME soundcard can handle the bits mentioned in the article.  I am not sure about standard cheapy ones for PC's.

So this could be done fairly simply in theory.

Edit2: Another interesting link http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=153934.0

Make the cable in the first link (or just use something like my soundcard that already works with AES/EBU) and attach it to the cable in the second link and voila - record 2 channels at a time and move the S/PDIF cable to each AES/EBU output in the other cable and start over until you get all of the channels recorded.

I really don't have any knowledge of the AD, other than it was a full cinema processor, akin to say a Dolby CP-500 (optical processing as well as digital), whereas the DTS-6 and 6D were digital processors only that needed to be connected to a cinema processor.  From all the stories I heard, the 6AD was a lousy cinema processor.

please see this as being curious and not as a complaint: is the Sith dts audio on those discs so different to the Blu Ray Release?

Sith BD changes, additional audio when clones arrive.  There was also talk that Anakin's Dream sequence may also have had it's audio revised.

^^

If I'm not mistaken...Cinema DTS and Home Theater DTS have always been two different animals.  If this has changed with the invent of Bluray I would have no way to tell you for sure, aside from what none has pointed out.

Cinema DTS is an entirely different thing than any home version. They have no relation other than name.

No matter where on the internet I've looked, this is the case.  Google brings up a fair amount of results but only explains home theater DTS....cinema DTS is a bit sacred.....

So folks know, I got a new job and I am in the process of training.  Secondly, I lost my Aunt who was a second mom to me so I was away for services and grieving.

I will be getting the S.E. audio I have to borisanddoris so he can work his magic and get the files to ElDonante so he can work his.

Thank you for ALL the patience we've been extended during this project.  We all have an existence outside the forum (at least I believe ALL of us do, LOL) and the kindness you show will always come back in the finished product...which makes you just as much a part of the bigger picture.

Cheers!!!!

Your condolences are appreciated greatly.  Thank you.

Now, bad news first, the job I thought I had acquired is no longer viable leaving me back at square 1, job wise.

Good news is, I am awaiting the arrival of a DTS-6D machine and I've being able to at least upload the ANH SE discs for borisanddoris to start processing when his schedule opens up a bit.  My next objective is to get the ROTJ SE discs uploaded for him when I can get a solid internet connection established again.

We ARE still looking for DTS discs of the ESB SE and AOTC......IF you have them or know someone who does, won't you please consider contributing them to this Audio Archive project....EVERYONE will benefit from it's completion.

The ISO's of the 2 disc ANH SE set and the TPM ones have been uploaded for folks who may want to play around.

PLEASE remember to thank whomever donated the SE discs, none, silverwook, borisanddoris, and Eldonante for these opportunities.....without them we would NOT be able to keep this project flowing.

I am just the messenger.

Talk with you all soon.

P.S.

If anyone WITH experience wants to pm me on how to properly work with a DTS-6D in a Windows XP environment I would appreciate it greatly....we've obviously had a generous offer of a capable sound card here in this thread and I do NOT want to let thorr's generosity go to waste.

Cheers!!!!

many thanks. I want to add that foreign language versions of those SE and Prequel disks would be of great preservation value as well.

So, may I ask, were the 97SE DTS tracks ever ripped then? And did anyone ever sync them to any particular 97SE release (like GKar, Flunk, TB, Reivax or some such)?
