I am ready for the trials! The beauty of TWOK is that it made the most of a paltry budget, (compared to TMP) recycled sets and miniatures, and the main antagonists never actually meet face to face. It's been compared the WWII submarine film The Enemy Below. I'd like to see Nick Meyer direct another Trek film since there may be a job opening up.
"What would you do for family?" was well answered by Star Trek III. TWOK, TSFS, TVH form a trilogy of sorts. TUC already explored what people would do out of fear to preserve the status quo in the Federation.
I think one of the problems I'm having is STID really isn't asking any new questions. It's not bringing anything new to the table. The franchise needs to look forward, not back. I realize that for younger fans who wouldn't be caught dead watching the "old" stuff, this won't be an issue. It's their loss.
And Paramount needs to get the next movie out sooner. Four years is too long to wait, and that other space franchise may soon steal it's thunder.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
Have returned from seeing it. A gift for myself. It was very good. I skimmed a couple pages of this thread. I agree with at least a couple things SilverWook said on those pages. I'm sure somebody else said something interesting too. Feel free to repeat it if you did.
This is not a lightsaber. Nor a euphemism.

Padawan LearnerI thought the 2009 movie sucked. But I really enjoyed Into Darkness. Still not Star Trek, but very close to it and a very enjoyable action movie
