I am ready for the trials!there's been a few articles this morning about Paramount's seemingly epic failing of this release
what they have done is got all the bonus features and spread them across various retailers as exclusives
so far iTunes have got a 1080p copy of the film with a visual commentary (and it also features the IMAX shifting aspect ratio that DOESN'T feature on the Blu-ray itself
VUDU has also got exclsuive downloadable features
and apparently Walmart, Target, Bestbuy have also got various bonus discs featuring different content (still looking into this)
Sainsburys in the UK has got a Bonus DVD similar to what Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol got
absolutle shambles and a kick in the teeth to all the fans in my humble opinion
would be great if all these features could be preserved on a single disc if there isn't a release that gathers all the features into one single package

Jeez what a mess. Please let us know when you find out about the German BR. The fact that the itunes changes aspect ratio is bizarre.

I've got the 3D steelbook on order and I'm tempted to pick up the Sainsbury's exclusive disc. Once we know more about the other exclusives, and what can be 'captured' from the streaming services, we'll have a better idea what can be achieved.

Absolutely absurd. It seems like the German edition (from what I read on DVD Talk) has all the non-commentary extras and the shifting ratio.
Farming out your commentary (and an enhanced one featuring the actors, at that) to iTunes just smacks of idiocy.

Padawan LearnerLess tempted to pick up the Sainsbury's disc if the same content is on the Target Blu-ray - that's the same trick they pulled with Avengers I believe (SD uk, HD us).
Does anyone know whether the iTunes Digital Copy comes with the commentary etc? I remember being surprised when the Ghost Protocol Digital Copy turned out to be a iTunes Extras package.

I am ready for the trials!
check the German version out. 2 seperate press releases in Germany state 13 extra features and the IMAX ratio (1.78:1) for the 3D version
i'm holding out for that one when it's released 12 September and waiting for confirmation that it does indeed feature all of the above

Jedi KnightLet's get a hold of ourselves here.
First of all, there's no extra Vudu material.
Second, the German disc is going to have the bonus material from Target.
Third, Best Buy in the US DOES have additional bonus material on cinemanow but NOT on the disc. However this additional material is actually on the disc in Canada and is exclusive to there.
Fourth, the Sainsbury DVD is the same as Target/Germany.
Fifth, there is no Wal-Mart bonus disc.
Done.

From Bill Hunt's updated post it appears that the Target / Sainsburys / German additions will give the 'core' bonus content, but there is still additional content on top.
From Bluraysforeveryone.com:
***Bonus Disc Includes 70 Minutes of Special Features Including 30 Min. of Exclusive detailed insight into the development of the movie’s characters and its amazing world of visual effects***
It sounds like the Target Bonus disc will have the 'core' extras as per the Sainsburys disc, but then more on top again.

I am ready for the trials! From a commenter over at Trekmovie...
Now, here’s something interesting for the Aussies… Big W is advertising the Star Trek Into Darkness (3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (3 Discs) Blu-ray on pre-order for $48AUD.
The Special Features Big W is advertising are:
- Villain Piece – Opening Sequence Piece – Movie Magic Piece – Bad Ship Piece – Makeup/VFX/Allen [sic - I think they mean Alien...] – Post Production Piece – Making of Piece – Fan Contest Piece – Mission Continues Piece – Deleted Scenes – Bloopers – Easter Eggs – Roundtable
That seems to be more features than I thought were available on the US versions (still no commentary, though)…
If that advertising is accurate, I might have to re-think just getting the DVD. I won’t be pre-ordering, though – I’ll want to read the back of the case myself before deciding whether I’m prepared to commit to spending $48.
