I saw the single disc edition, and I thought the 2-disc only added a digital copy.  Did it have these deleted scenes on disc 2?

Yes the 2 disc edition DVD and the 3 disc Blu-ray have 9 deleted scenes.

That said, I'd love to see an extended cut of this.

Even better I'd like to see a cut with the lens flares removed.  J.J. is an idiot to think it looks good.  I was sick of the idea by episode 2 of Fringe.  It doesn't look relistic, just like you don't know how to light your set.

As far as the fx, you might want to talk to Taolar or Adywan.  They are the genius at that.

The one major problem I can see is with the Rura Penthe scenes.

Somehow (probably explained in the comic but not on screen) Nero had out fitted his mining vessel with advanced weapons.

That has to stay if the attack on the USS Kelvin is going to make sense.

So what happens to his ship while Nero is in prison?

Surely the Klingons would have dragged it off to their version of Area 51.

If Nero's ship was just a mining ship they could feasibly have used it to help with the dilithium mining on the planet but seeing as it has advanced drive and weapon systems I can't see the Empire just parking the thing in orbit around the planet they are holding their Romulan prisoners on.

It's a shame because it was a major sequence with some nice touches (like the leather helmets hiding the Klingon's shameful resemblance to Humans).

Remember the ship hasn't got the Red Matter yet so if Nero isn't captured he would need to keep his head down.

He took out the Starfleet task force but he wouldn't be able to hold out that long against a major fleet attack if he stirred up too much trouble too early (his ship is big and well armed but it's not a Borg cube, one ship managed to do enough damage to seriously disable it).

A few of the deleted scenes seem a little too much incomplete to include just for the sake of being there IMO. If you want the spock birth scene "IN" I would cut right to it - removing the 'crab' entirely - also that [crab] shot had an onscreen stardate - that IIRC they never used anywhere else in the film [that is, as on screen text]

Similarly during the scenes where the Klingons are surrounding the Narada you could substitute the 'incomplete' shots with something else - the ONLY important part of that particular scene is the Klingon dialogue and possibly the reaction of various Romulans. A close up of a worried Nero should do.

- also you could look at inserting klingon ships from previous films? - after all star trek 7 used a shot from star trek 6 - of the klingon ship exploding.

for the kobayashi maru scene, I personally would like to see a hybrid of the two versions - I like the actual extended bits but on the whole some of the performances weren't too great in the deleted version.

My ideal edit would not show ANYTHING of Spock until Kirk calls him out during the session meeting... "who was that pointy eared bastard?" - I'm sure there are plenty that would disagree though. - Spock has PLENTY of screen [and story] time after this point.

Also, I wonder if anyone would be up to the task of trying to create some sort of Bill Shatner cameo - now that the original script idea has been released - a recorded farewell message for the elder spock...Since it WAS something they initially intended...

Pretty sure they [the KELVIN] weren't IN Klingon space but very close to.

While I haven't SEEN the deleted scenes, I get the impression Nero was captured by the klingons after the attack on the Kelvin and his ship escaped.

Nero is imprisoned on Rura Penthe (which explains what he was doing for 20+ years while Kirk and Spock grow up).

His ship eventually returns to spring him, which although not seen(?) is implied when Uhuru says they received a transmission of a Klingon prison planet being destroyed.

It actually ties the movie together better than 'random klingon prison planet has been destoryed'.

I think it was implied [although not clearly] that they [klingons] just couldn't figure out the ship systems. Which seems far fetched.

1 They obviously got the ship from one point to another after capturing the crew.

2 If a crew if miners could get the thing running, surely the boys down in Klingon R&D could figure it out.

yeah...But they DID try to seduce Nero into sharing up his future knowledge to use against their enemies...

Other than that I did like the Klingon scenes - I guess with all deleted scenes they were cut with reason. Who knows - they may elaborate on it in the upcoming movie comic adaptation - or the current 'Nero' focused series?

@pittrek - Thank you for saying the emperor has no clothes. Everyone 'loved' the new Trek film, and I felt it took the mickey out of all previous trek films and tv by doing the whole time travel thing.

It's a good action film, but I will never accept it as canon in the Trek universe.  I like my ST slow and intellectual.

The important part that you need to remember is - maybe you didn't like this film but it might open the door for a future film you will really dig. For example, i can barely stand the motion picture - but it paved the way for the wrath of khan.

Big fan of J.J.'s & big fan of Star Trek.  I may have issues with his vision of the Trek universe (that is Star Wars with Trek ships in it), but I still dug the film.  It is just grossly overrated.

I'm more hopeful that we might see the a new TV series than I am about the movies actually ever having the correct tone and style again.

Funny you should say that because the only Star Trek film I really like is TMP because it's the only one where the Enterprise crew actually do much in the way of exploration (even if it is lifted off a couple of original series episodes...TWOK is too and nobody seems to mind about that).

It's also the most cinematic of the films (even tops ST11 in the epic sweep stakes).

ST11 is an average Star Trek film, not that different from Nemesis or Season 3 of Enterprise, I couldn't see why they were panned or why this has been praised as a bold new direction, most of it is just as good (and bad) as it been for some time.

Soooo.... Is anyone working on this?
