I was wondering if anyone is interested in creating an extended cut of the latest Star Trek film. I think it would be awesome to put all of the deleted scenes back into the film, and we could see some of the more awesome scenes involving the Klingons. All of the scenes are complete except for the Klingon attack on Nero. If anyone could finish the effects on that one scene where the Klingons de-cloak their ships that would be amazing. So far this is what I have complied, now we know where each deleted scene fits into the film. The placement of the one scene involving Sarek and Amanda I am not sure of.
Deleted scenes:
spocks birth- opens the film
klingons attack the narada- right after we see federation shuttles leave
Amanda and Sarek argue- right after spocks fight
Corvette - precedes the joyride
Interrogation(ends before he is taken away)-immediately after vette scene
Nero escapes from prison-kirk & mccoy leave earth and read 3 years later - fade to escape
Sarek and Amanda-right after enterprise hits warp?
Green girl room scene- extended replaces theatrical
Kirk apology to green girl-after uhura tries to comfort spock in elevator
Sarek sees Spock prime-right after convincing Spock to stay in fleet

aka PancakesI might tackle this when I get the DVD. NO PROMISES, but I really liked the movie and would like to see some of this stuff in the context of the film. It wouldn't be a "This is what I think the film should have been" edit (like my planned Watchmen cut); more of a "Look what it could have been. Interesting, eh?" edit, like the Special Longer Version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but with the new Star Trek.
Again, no promises that I'll do this. I'll just say that I'm interested in the idea, and if, when I get the DVD, the deleted scenes are of decent quality, I may be tempted to tackle it.
If anyone else beats me to it, though, go for it. I'm just intrigued by the possibility.

Jedi KnightI saw the single disc edition, and I thought the 2-disc only added a digital copy. Did it have these deleted scenes on disc 2?

Yes the 2 disc edition DVD and the 3 disc Blu-ray have 9 deleted scenes.

I did not know that. Cool.
That said, I'd love to see an extended cut of this.
Even better I'd like to see a cut with the lens flares removed. J.J. is an idiot to think it looks good. I was sick of the idea by episode 2 of Fringe. It doesn't look relistic, just like you don't know how to light your set.
As far as the fx, you might want to talk to Taolar or Adywan. They are the genius at that.

Magister Pontifex MaximusThe one major problem I can see is with the Rura Penthe scenes.
Somehow (probably explained in the comic but not on screen) Nero had out fitted his mining vessel with advanced weapons.
That has to stay if the attack on the USS Kelvin is going to make sense.
So what happens to his ship while Nero is in prison?
Surely the Klingons would have dragged it off to their version of Area 51.
If Nero's ship was just a mining ship they could feasibly have used it to help with the dilithium mining on the planet but seeing as it has advanced drive and weapon systems I can't see the Empire just parking the thing in orbit around the planet they are holding their Romulan prisoners on.
Another problem is if Nero's ship is in Klingon space when it arrives, why is the Kelvin there?
It's a shame because it was a major sequence with some nice touches (like the leather helmets hiding the Klingon's shameful resemblance to Humans).
Remember the ship hasn't got the Red Matter yet so if Nero isn't captured he would need to keep his head down.
He took out the Starfleet task force but he wouldn't be able to hold out that long against a major fleet attack if he stirred up too much trouble too early (his ship is big and well armed but it's not a Borg cube, one ship managed to do enough damage to seriously disable it).
Say goodbye, to all this and "hello" to Jason Issacs.

Talking from memory :
1) Spock's birth - the creature at the beginning looks very "temp", also I want to recolour all the Vulcan scenes so they have a red sky
2) When Nero's ship is surrounded by Klingons, the ships need to be finished
3) When Sarek and Amanda argue, behind the window is a blue screen, also in the previous shot the sky is blue
4) When Amanda watches the destruction of Vulcan, the "beam" is a static painting in the first scene, and it's completely gone from all the other scenes (also the sky changes color during the camera cuts)
5) During the extended Kobayaishi Mary sequence a green screen us visible at one shot

has been intentionally left blank.RE: deleted footage...
A few of the deleted scenes seem a little too much incomplete to include just for the sake of being there IMO. If you want the spock birth scene "IN" I would cut right to it - removing the 'crab' entirely - also that [crab] shot had an onscreen stardate - that IIRC they never used anywhere else in the film [that is, as on screen text]
Similarly during the scenes where the Klingons are surrounding the Narada you could substitute the 'incomplete' shots with something else - the ONLY important part of that particular scene is the Klingon dialogue and possibly the reaction of various Romulans. A close up of a worried Nero should do.
- also you could look at inserting klingon ships from previous films? - after all star trek 7 used a shot from star trek 6 - of the klingon ship exploding.
for the kobayashi maru scene, I personally would like to see a hybrid of the two versions - I like the actual extended bits but on the whole some of the performances weren't too great in the deleted version.
My ideal edit would not show ANYTHING of Spock until Kirk calls him out during the session meeting... "who was that pointy eared bastard?" - I'm sure there are plenty that would disagree though. - Spock has PLENTY of screen [and story] time after this point.
Also, I wonder if anyone would be up to the task of trying to create some sort of Bill Shatner cameo - now that the original script idea has been released - a recorded farewell message for the elder spock...Since it WAS something they initially intended...
Another problem is if Nero's ship is in Klingon space when it arrives, why is the Kelvin there?
Pretty sure they [the KELVIN] weren't IN Klingon space but very close to.

It's funny, when I watched the film yesterday I had that exact thought. Spock's 'entrance' even feels like a first appearance scene, which would make the edit seamless, stylistically speaking. Nice to know I'm not the only crazy one. ;)

Jedi KnightWhile I haven't SEEN the deleted scenes, I get the impression Nero was captured by the klingons after the attack on the Kelvin and his ship escaped.
Nero is imprisoned on Rura Penthe (which explains what he was doing for 20+ years while Kirk and Spock grow up).
His ship eventually returns to spring him, which although not seen(?) is implied when Uhuru says they received a transmission of a Klingon prison planet being destroyed.
It actually ties the movie together better than 'random klingon prison planet has been destoryed'.

Padawan LearnerVictor Garber's Klingon character states that they captured Nero's ship.
...And apparently keep it in orbit around Rura Penthe for some unknown reason. :D

Without dismantling it for future weapons tech... ok, maybe it was a good decision to cut those scenes.

has been intentionally left blank.I think it was implied [although not clearly] that they [klingons] just couldn't figure out the ship systems. Which seems far fetched.
1 They obviously got the ship from one point to another after capturing the crew.
2 If a crew if miners could get the thing running, surely the boys down in Klingon R&D could figure it out.
IIRC in the comics they had a simple mining ship retrofitted with advanced [confiscated] BORG technology.
Without dismantling it for future weapons tech... ok, maybe it was a good decision to cut those scenes.
yeah...But they DID try to seduce Nero into sharing up his future knowledge to use against their enemies...
Other than that I did like the Klingon scenes - I guess with all deleted scenes they were cut with reason. Who knows - they may elaborate on it in the upcoming movie comic adaptation - or the current 'Nero' focused series?

Padawan LearnerCome on guys, the whole movie makes no sense. It's incredibly stupid and steals most of the story from Star Wars.
The only reason why to watch it is because it has "Star Trek" in the title :)
It's our moral duty to make the movie watchable and adding the deleted scenes will be a huge improvement :)

Jedi Knight@pittrek - Thank you for saying the emperor has no clothes. Everyone 'loved' the new Trek film, and I felt it took the mickey out of all previous trek films and tv by doing the whole time travel thing.
It's a good action film, but I will never accept it as canon in the Trek universe. I like my ST slow and intellectual.

has been intentionally left blank. The important part that you need to remember is - maybe you didn't like this film but it might open the door for a future film you will really dig. For example, i can barely stand the motion picture - but it paved the way for the wrath of khan.

Jedi KnightBig fan of J.J.'s & big fan of Star Trek. I may have issues with his vision of the Trek universe (that is Star Wars with Trek ships in it), but I still dug the film. It is just grossly overrated.
I'm more hopeful that we might see the a new TV series than I am about the movies actually ever having the correct tone and style again.

Funny you should say that because the only Star Trek film I really like is TMP because it's the only one where the Enterprise crew actually do much in the way of exploration (even if it is lifted off a couple of original series episodes...TWOK is too and nobody seems to mind about that).
It's also the most cinematic of the films (even tops ST11 in the epic sweep stakes).
ST11 is an average Star Trek film, not that different from Nemesis or Season 3 of Enterprise, I couldn't see why they were panned or why this has been praised as a bold new direction, most of it is just as good (and bad) as it been for some time.
Say goodbye, to all this and "hello" to Jason Issacs.

vs. The WorldPersonally, I think a lot of the scenes they cut would have cleaned up some of the plot holes in the film (what was Nero doing all those years?) and strengthened the character relationships (specifically Spock). The only scene that I don't think should be put back in is the scene where Kirk apologizes to the Orion girl who ends up not being Gaila. There is really no reason to include a whole scene to set up one joke, there is no plot or character development there. Honestly, It almost makes Kirk look more douchey, which probably wasn't the intention.

I am ready for the trials!Totally crazy idea I had yesterday while at the Hallmark store. One of the Trek ornaments this year is a intricately detailed movie era Klingon cruiser. (Lights up even.) Could this somehow be used to make new FX shots?

Well a "rough cut" already exists, but with problems in the score and unfinished special effects
