That would be cool as a curio, but these are great looking filmic transfers.

It would be cool (to me, at least) to do a restoration project of EP1-8 with PAL laserdiscs as source (and EP9 from NTSC LD as no PAL LD was available) - EP1,2,7,8 have italian soundtrack, too...

By the way, EP6 on the PAL UK laserdisc boxset is the extended version, and include a prologue by Leonard Nimoy... IIRC the latter was not available on BD, right?

Star Trek: Insurrection was the last LD for the series.  As for ST: The Undiscovered Country being the extended cut for PAL and have a Nimoy prologue, I do not know.  The Collectors Edition 2 DVD set was the ONLY widely available version of the Extended Cut.  It did NOT make it to Bluray .... they are all theatrical release versions.

I can tell you the NTSC LD that I have of ST: TUC is not extended.

3 minutes of extra footage that I must've missed.  Anyone know what that extra footage is?  The ONLY extended version I've seen is the one on the Collector's 2 DVD Edition and those scenes (Spock, Volaris, and the memory flashbacks) are NOT on my LD.

I even have the original Widescreen Collection DVD with the red bar at the bottom of the cover art and I KNOW those scenes are not on that either.  I've watched it more times than I could even remember.

Jetrell, you are right, according to this review - so, it seems that EP6 as seen on laserdisc is not present on BD and/or DVD...

I just got done checking my Widescreen Collection DVD ... I'm confused as the scenes the review describes are there, just not the extra ones that ended up on the 2 Disc Collector's Edition (the flashback scenes on the bridge).

I was not aware that those scenes in the review were extra scenes so technically, I am actually wrong, and the LD, VHS and WS DVD are all the same.

Per THIS article, the Bluray is the ONLY release of the Theatrical Release ever available.

I investigated a bit these days, and it seems that effectively there are three versions:

Theatrical cut (available on BD, 2.35:1)

Extended Edition (available on LD, 1.90:1)

Special Edition (available on DVD, 1:85:1)

(any correction are welcome!)

So, at least, there are no Extended or Special Edition available on Blu Ray... yet!

Yes, I agree that the best option is the thetrical cut, but the EE has its right to be preserved, don't you think?

I quote myself (!) because I wrongly wrote that the prologue by Leonard Nimoy was included in EP6, while it was before EP4; plus, EP4 PAL laserdisc has also a four-minute so called "european prologue", that could be not available in US editions (I need confirmation about it); if it's true, then EP4 and EP6 on (PAL) laserdiscs are different from the blu-ray editions, and (may) worth a restoration...

The BD are the same exact masters as the HDTV versions except for II which got a restoration from the o-neg.

How much DVNR was applied on these older existing masters is up for debate but every film clearly had work done.

I think star trek I might just be from an earlier HD transfer with the DVNR already applied but i could be wrong.

Also Trek VI looks like an inferior old transfer and not the result of DVNR. As far as i could tell.

III-V however are really heavy DVNR.  And no reason as to why it was done.
