RE: Star Tours

Yay, we got onto a sneak peak at Disney Land (Anaheim) yesterday!

We "got" to see the Vader scene, then Kashyyk, then Naboo.  Very wild, almost made my sister in law puke.

But the best part of the day was seeing Captain EO again.  MAN! 1986 was RAD!

So is Boba Fett in this like the rumor claimed, not that it matters now since he is no longer a Mandalorian thanks to Lucas and Clone Wars.

Who did the cgi for this, i hope not ILM it looks worse than 1999 phantom menace, i saw test footage of star tours 2 podrace and it was much inferior to that this is maybe 2 or 3 years ago.

I could understand as test footage but as final release, my god what an embarrassment.  I guess they figure kids won't notice, yeah right kids with High Def tv and xbox 360's and ps3 and blu ray could definitely tell the difference.

I guess its a step up from peewee  herman, but all the prequel-isms are a huge stumbling block in the way of enjoyment.

Unless you have nostalgia for the peewee herman droid voice, i found it almost as bad as jar jar binks.

If anyone is interested, i went to the press party a week ago today.

I was on the ride 5 times...what a blast.

Unfortunately, I got the same two planets 3 times in a row.  Sucked.

My sister in law has never seen the prequals.

So to her a WHOLE lot of the ride (she went three times with a preview pass) was totally new and original. And without context she thought it all ruled.

How I hate her.

RE: Star Tours

Isn't that kind of what the prequels were really boring theme park rides with videogame graphics, kind of like star tours 2.

Would have been nice If Lucas still made films.

Similarly, my kids saw a lot of PT stuff they'd never seen before.  But as opposed to thinking it ruled, I think they were just more disappointed they didn't recognize anything.  They were very excited to see Star Wars, and came away wondering what they had seen.

Care to flesh out your disagreement?

If you stick to just the movies, and don't bother with novelizations, EU, etc., it doesn't matter what race Boba Fett is.

If you watch all the movies you get a pretty strong impression that he is Temuerra Morrison shaped.

If you watch just the OT all you know is Fett is humanoid (and likes the ladies if you watch ESB:SE).

I really was hoping for either a Dread Pirate Roberts or Samus Aran reveal or both (or none).

Why stick someone in a mask and make him cool and mysterious in Episode V and then go out of your way to tell everyone who he is and what he looks like in Episodes and stories set before when it adds nothing to the story?

If you have to look underneath the mask either make the reveal a wow moment or pile on more layers mystery.

Does George even know what masks are for?

RE: Star Tours

I always figured under the mask he looked something like Clint from a Fistful of Dollars.

Then in Attack of the Clones you find out he is a clone of some no name guy called Jango who sounds positively  non threatening.

But dresses like Boba Fett from the Original trilogy only his armor has no nicks in it and is shiny instead of used universe looking.

Also the Kid is annoying just like Anakin and Jar Jar.

What a facepalm moment read empire infinities where they show what his face looks like, its that Dude from attack of the Clones who played Jango.

I am surprised Lucas did not steal the idea from that and add a scene in empire where he has his helmet off.

He did give Boba, Jango's voice in 2004, that was a rage moment for me just like Hayden as Anakin Skywalker in the Ghost scene instead of the old Jedi played by Shaw.

RE: Star Tours

Jango (being derived from Django) is arguably a much more threatening name than Bobble Feet, the threat comes from the mask, the surface details of his costume (the hints of an undisclosed life history) and his skill as a tracker.

If you do need to reveal of such a character it has to be something astonishing or something that only deepens the mystery.

The Vader reveal worked pretty well in that regard because you still didn't see his face, you weren't sure if he was lying, if true it opened up so many worm cans like 'Can we trust Ben and Yoda?', 'How and why did it happen?', 'Where do we go now?' etc.

The Fett reveal not only contributed little to the story but actual collapsed the aura of mystery around the guy.

The fan favorite was practically 'spit-roasted' with a crap origin story on the one end and rubbish death on the other.

I like this analogy.

Jango was threatening in more than name only if you are familiar with Morrison's character Jake the Muss (Once Were Warriors). I wouldn't mess with Jake the Muss, Jake the Fett or any character that guy plays.

Those stupid Infinities read like bad fanfiction. The less said about them, the better.

Rode it 5 times this weekend. AWESOME. Looked great, fun story, overall a huge awesomeness awesomefest.

The only beef was the video you watched in line. It was bad CGI. Real bad. Fan-film bad. Don't know what was up with that.

Did I mention the ride was awesome?
