RE: Star Tours

I didn't realize that Star Tours in Disney World was gone. Glad I went on it both times I was there.

This thread reminded me that I have the Star Tours preservation DVD somewhere. I should dig it up and watch it.

EDIT: On second thought....

This is a great collection of rare material from the Disney Star Tours ride, including the Star Tours News Kit.  I wanted to make sure this disc got out there, because it appears I may have the only working copy of this disc left.  There are some great as well as groan-worthy moments on this disc, including some things like the really cheesey opening ceremony and C-3PO rapping.  Yes, you heard right.

RE: Star Tours

I'm glad I got to go on the original. For a kid growing up in the late 80s when SW was basically dead, it was a total trip to heaven to see a 20 foot AT-AT guarding a Star Wars gift shop full of merchandise that led into one of the most entertaining rides I had ever been on. I guess it couldn't hang around forever, it's starting to get dated, but it's nice to know that it was connected to the OT with its models and optical composites. It's a shame, because I've watched the preservations of the video, which are cool, but it doesn't do the ride justice. Unlike most other thing Star Wars, there truely is no substitute for the experience of this, and its slightly sad that no one will ever be able to get this again. I guess that makes all of us who had the experinece among the elite. I have to hope that in 50 years from now, this will be re-activated at some sort of Star Wars museum.

The Secret History of Star Wars -- now available on Amazon.com!

"When George went back and put new creatures into the original Star Wars, I find that disturbing. It’s a revision of history. That bothers me."

Anyone got any links to the Star Tours preservations? I have a version that I tried to color-correct, but it still never looked very good. Too many blown-out details.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They're certainly beyond any repair you're capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can't say I find that very disappointing.

mousebits.com  I believe the super fans (Alex Newborn and Aaron Snyder) recently put out a new version.  Here's the thread about the old/new versions.

The old one is getting close to retirement on a.b.sw. 657 days.

It's seeded on myspleen.org right now. If it's slow, let me know and I can seed it and give it some more speed (I should seed it anyway when I finish installing my new hard drive). And if anyone needs an invite, just PM me or ask for invites here.  Don't ask on this thread, please.

Yeah, I found it last night, and am still at 0% this morning. I guess it's a bit dead. It'll be interesting to see how this version of Star Tours compares to mine.

It's seeded now. There's a "Reseed Request" button at the bottom of the description in case you come across any other unseeded items.

Edit: I guess it's not really a button.

RE: Star Tours

Well, ride reports are coming in from preview riders at Disneyland of the new version.

Spoiler:

Basically, the Empire is after a Rebel spy that is one of the passengers aboard the Starspeeder, with Vader or other imperial forces meeting you at the Star Tours spaceport. Making an escape to one of the other planets, you are then contacted by one of the rebels (Leia, Ackbar and Yoda for some reason) on how to reach one of the bases where the spy you're carrying will be safe, which leads into another destination and the ride's end, presumably avoiding Imperial interference along the way

Mixing the six planets into that base story (Tatooine, Hoth, Coruscant, Naboo, Kashyyyk, and Geonosis with an under-construction Death Star) and other changes and you've got an interesting changing experience.

So, the ride takes place on two OT locations, one location that appeared in both the OT and the PT, and five PT locations.*

Yeah, it would be DS1 under construction, what with the new ride being set between the trilogies.

EDIT: Al Lutz has a more detailed breakdown of the attraction

Wow, that is awesome.
Interesting that it doesn't mention WHO the "original actor" is, you think one would name-drop James Earl Jones. Who is playing Leia, that's my question. The rest of them are CGI, puppets, or costumes.

David, you are to stay here for the next six months learning to speak beautifully, like a lady in a florist's shop. If you work hard and do as you're told, you shall sleep in a proper bedroom, have lots to eat, and money to buy chocolates and go for rides in taxis. But if you are naughty and idle, you shall sleep in the back kitchen amongst the black beetles, and be wolloped by Mrs. Pearce with a broomstick. At the end of six months you will be taken to Buckingham Palace, in a carriage, beautifully dressed. If the king finds out you are not a dark lord of the sith, you will be taken to the Tower of London, where your head will be cut off as a warning to other presumptuous lanky dudes! But if you are not found out, you shall have a present... of, ah... seven and six to start life with as a dark lord. If you refuse this offer, you will be the most ungrateful, wicked dude, and the angels will weep for you.

Just you wait, 'enry 'iggins, just you wait!
You'll be sorry, but your tears'll be to late!
You'll be broke, and I'll have money;
Will I help you? Don't be funny!
Just you wait, 'enry 'iggins, just you wait!

Just you wait, 'enry 'iggins, till you're sick,
And you scream to fetch a doctor double-quick.
I'll be off a second later And go straight to the the-ater!
Oh ho ho, 'enry 'iggins, just you wait!
Ooooooh 'enry 'iggins!
Just you wait until we're swimmin' in the sea!

Ooooooh 'enry 'iggins!
And you get a cramp a little ways from me!
When you yell you're going to drown I'll get dressed
and go to town! Oh ho ho, 'enry 'iggins!
Oh ho ho, 'enry 'iggins! Just you wait!
One day I'll be famous! I'll be proper and prim;
Go to St. James so often I will call it St. Jim!

One evening the queen will say:
"Oh, Davey, old thing,
I want all of England your praises to sing.
Next week on the twentieth of May
I proclaim Davey Prowse-y Day!
All the people will celebrate the glory of you
And whatever you wish and want I gladly will do."

"Thanks a lot, Queen" says I, in a manner well-bred;

But all I want is 'enry 'iggins 'ead!"

"Done," says the Queen with a stroke.
"Guard, run and bring in the bloke!"
Then they'll march you, 'enry 'iggins to the wall;
And the Queen will tell me: "Davey, sound the call."
As they lift their rifles higher, I'll shout:
"Ready! Aim! Fire!"
Oh ho ho, 'enry 'iggins,
Down you'll go, 'enry 'iggins!

Just you wait! oo-aar!!
