I'm glad to have download the DVD that was put on on MySpleen as was curious if there might be any more additions possibly being done to it. Especially, with Star Tours II coming in 2011. If you guys haven't seen the article on StarWars.com here's the link

Is there a way to download the DL version without using myspleen? I don't have an account there.

Not so much a DVD thing, but Disney Park video editor Martin Smith is putting together an HD Star Tours tribute in the fall.
Star Tours Ultimate Tribute - to be released once Orlandos version has closed. Around an hour long, in full HD, the complete history and story of the ride, followed by the entire preshow queue shot in Disneyland from multiple angles by Chris Bales - the whole 10 minute Starspeeder room show, shot on tripod showing every detail from the droids to the videoscreen. Followed by the 2 full 5 minute Droidnostics room loops, the boarding area preshow and safety video, plus the whole attraction with a mix of source and shot-with-permission live ride footage. Plus unload and exit. All with full source audio and a new source ride audio mix I`ve produced since I wasn`t happy with the mix available. I`ve brought the music more to the front of the soundfield and added the in-cabin ambient effects not heard on the versions in circulation. I`ll be shooting the differences in queue layout at DHS before it closes, and again hope to have this edit available at the end of September.
A lot more of his work is up here and is very much worth checking out if you're a Disney park fan. http://www.martinsvids.net/

Well, with Martin's video, there will definitely be torrents when it comes out. Martin uploads most of his stuff to MouseBits, a Disney park media torrent site. Already includes a handful of Star Tours based media, including Martin's older Star Tours edit and that original ride-footage file.

Lighting the Sky on FireThis video Martin is producing sounds awesome...just the thing to keep the original ride alive as much as possible.
It does sound like it's meant to be a commercial release, though, especially since he got permission. Is this the case? If so, just buy the damn thing, don't torrent it. Projects like this are worth supporting.

Yeah the new one does sound like it should be great. With the HD version that has been out a while I've always liked it a lot but really wished they used a tripod more often especially for the ride. I hope this new one can do the trick, I can't wait...

It's not commercial. His videos are always made free. The permission angle is presumably just asking Castmembers if he could tape.

He does mention source audio and video, which tells me he got his hands on some original footage and not just cam shots. If he's got a good quality version of the ride film, and/or the safety videos from the source, that's a treasure indeed.

Actually, there's a lot of Disney Park source audio floating around online. Disney used to have a burn-on-demand service for that sorta stuff in the early 2000s, called Disneyland Forever.
Remains to be seen what he's referring to on the source video outside that leaked ride film though. Seeing as he managed to get a hold of the ridiculously rare Michael Jittlov Dreamfinder short for his 80's Imageworks/Magic Journeys tribute, anything's possible.

Well, it's finally arrived on Mousebits. It'll probably arrive on Vimeo in a few days.
Now the US versions of the original attraction have closed, here is an edit that was six months in the making.
Start way back with the history of attempting to use a motion base as an attraction, then see the developing relationship between George Lucas and Michael Eisner. Follow the ride planning, with a full concept and construction section for both parks. See the Disneyland opening, and changes added over the years. Next see the original Disney-MGM exteriors and also changes made over the years. This is followed by a full tour of the Disney's Hollywood Studios exterior as it was before closing and a look at the differences to the preshow and boarding area layout. The take a full look at the Disneyland queue and preshow areas, again just before closing, shot by Chris Bales.
Next is the full multi camera, mostly tripod shot preshow in both the lower and upper rooms. All droids, Starspeeder effects, video wall, details, everything - both the R2D2/C3P0 and GT-40 and GT-90 preshows are shown in full from multiple angles, with source audio. Wander through the line taking in the details, arrive at load and watch the overhead monitor as your flight to the moon of Endor is prepared, followed by the safety video - again tripod shot with source audio. Next walk into your speeder for a split screen full ride using source ride film and incabin coverage of REX, the side video screen and the in-cabin effects. This is set to a new stereo source mix of the ride audio, remixed to bring the score forward more and with added incabin audio effects to sound just like the attraction did.
Finally, exit the Disneyland ride and walk into the store, then exit the Orlando version and walk into the store too. Finally, take a look at both closed attractions as the adventure gets ready to continue.
65 minutes long. Enjoy!

I can't wait to see Martin's tribute video.
I'm reinstalling Limewire so I can download it from Mousebits right now.

I just finally was able to grab and check out Martin's new vid. He really did an amazing job preserving everything, from the ride to the tiniest random little details that you'd see waiting in line. It does make me sad watching it though knowing that its all gone now. I REALLY REALLY hope that like what was done for the Back to the Future ride they make an effort to officially preserve it and have it on the blueray or something. Just think if they did a nice hi-def scan of the 70mm ride footage with a good surround mix...swoon.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTSome of the stuff I read in this thread is brilliant. Is there any decent quality copy of the actual Star Tours movie around, not just a handheld cam or low-quality early production copy? It looks like some folks had good resources in this thread, but now it seems their projects have died. A real pity.
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTPJVader made it sound like he had a really good copy of this, but I can't find anything worthwhile online and all my efforts to contact him have come to naught. I can think of three different types of sources that could perhaps be used to create a quality preservation. However, I lack any real skills. Let me pose three questions to those capable of fixing up these films:
Can the proper colors correction be applied to this rather yellow copy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9CWq5JmGOs
Can this video be stabilized so that we only see a steady shot of this handheld camera video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmbGFi016Ac
Can this video be upscaled, as it seems rather lacking in color and detail:
http://www.martinsvids.net/?p=663
(Part 2, about 21 minutes in)
This film needs a decent preservation, and I'm hoping we can use some of the footage for our ROTJ collaborative edit, but I've really run out of luck in my quest for a decent copy. Anyone know an answer?
