I could upload those scenes from the "V8"- disc for you.

Could I please get those as well? Actually, I only need the Mos Eisley sequence.

You found one? Way to go msycamore !
After your glowing review, I predict eBay price will soon skyrocket :)
Not to worry -- if aleksbmw can't find one, I'd gladly lend him mine...

Harmy, if you think it would help your projects I could do 640x480 capture of the Mos Eisely drive-by from my own JSC disc or from this one, which now should probably be called "smear-free '92"

However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

RE: Smear-free '93 ?

Well, I would certainly like a capture from the smear-free '92 one, that would be great :-)

For the JSC I would prefer DJ's cleaned up version.

Why not ask, DJ for it?

Just so you know, V8 is also cleaned up. I can fix that scene for you from that one if you want, do you need the avi to be in RGB format?

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

I thought V8 was DJ's? If not, that's what I meant, the V8. I guess RGB would be preferable but not necessary. Thanks :-)

No "V8" is arni.d's preservation of the JSC LD, the one I posted screen-caps of on the last page. I'll fix it for you.

msycamore, are you going to capture this LD? it appears that dm is not, I asked before if he was, but it seems like only screenshots and info are his specialty.

I would love to capture it, unfortunately I don't think I have the right equipment for it, more importantly perhaps, never done it before. But I definitely plan to do it.

RE: Smear-free '93 ?

Several have asked me that question. Probably they don't realize my primary workstation is a Pentium-III with 80GB disk.

About a month ago I did try capturing my LD using a stand-alone DVD recorder, but it turns out to be a steaming pile of Funai.
Refuses to record any of the four blank media flavors I've tried. Well it's probably a blessing in disguise.
Even in 1-hour mode, an MPEG2 recording with hard pulldown wouldn't be ideal.

More recently I've got an old file server to play with. It has MegaRAID card with three SCSI channels, and 18GB disk per channel.
In RAID-0 configuration the disk subsystem should be fast enough, albeit not very large capacity.
Motherboard has dual Pentium-III's installed (but the BIOS is so old it thinks they're Pentium-II ) running at 500MHz.
I wonder if that would be enough horsepower for FFVH codec (that's FFmpeg's HuffYUV implementation).
Maybe, just maybe it becomes a project and not merely an object.

One step at a time...

However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

RE: Smear-free '93 ?

I hope I haven't building up this LD to something it is not with my "glowing review" as Mallwalker said. It's still just a LD, many people would just shake their head and don't get what I'm so thrilled about when seeing this transfer, but I simply prefer a dirty and noisy picture over a badly cleaned destroyed picture. I'll definitely look into what I'll need to get a descent capture out of it. Right now, I'm just a little occupied with THX.

I think it's still up there on usenet. Arnie.d did a fantastic job with it.

Sorry, Mallwalker for taking up your thread with this. I should maybe have posted those clips elsewhere.

No worries.

I know what you mean about not building people's hopes too high.
After all, the Technidisc factory got some not-so-glowing reviews:

Blam Entertainment Group said:

Technidisc continued to suffer from generally poor replication. Most discs contain an excessive amount of single-line dropouts and all CLV/CAA sides suffer from excessive crosstalk on all laserdisc players.
Full article here

I don't even know what crosstalk looks like, but it doesn't sound good.

And don't forget this comment from mitch@lddb.com:
"The Technidisc pressing from 1993 is not very good"
Maybe he meant crosstalk?

While some of us find the content of this LD quite interesting, possibly the disc itself could be (relatively) poorly mastered.

If it's up on Usenet, it's not within EasyNews' "200+ days" retention period. (Nothing against EasyNews, they have a good price and it's over the web so I don't need a newsreader program. I was able to get the Dark/Sega JSC rips, at least.)

Are Arnie.d's any better than the Dark/Sega ones? Maybe a repost would be in order for those of us who don't have access to 600+ day old posts...

Like msycamore, I don't want to keep taking this thread off-topic, just letting Mallwalker know about this...

It's 620 days old. EasyNews does claim 900 days retention for NNTP clients (but less for their web interface, as you've pointed out.)
I'd post it again. Sure, why not?

Yeah, I saw that comment, now I need to find out what "crosstalk" actually means in this case.

That is not good... I think I saw that pattern when watching this LD, but I was unsure if it was player related or not. :(

That might be a good idea. I'd be willing to seed that, though truthfully my internet connection doesn't seed at great speeds...

RE: Smear-free '93 ?

Mallwalker, unfortunately I can confirm that the Technidisc - pressing of SW is full of "crosstalk" if you haven't seen it for yourself by now. Maybe the amount of "crosstalk" differ from disc to disc but it's pretty extensive on mine.
