Simon Frickin' Pegg.

I lost all respect for this guy after he slagged off the PT and George Lucas (calling him a 'muppet'), only to cash a cheque for work on The Clone Wars.

Now this:

Nice way to alienate your target audience, Simon.

Who cares?

It's like the John Simm story a few months back.

Celebrity gossip isn't real journalism and how much of that exists anymore?

When someone reports something actually important like our governments spying on us they respond like this jerk.

If a bunch of clowns want to brand STID as the worst ST film ever (Which it just isn't by any measure, however you feel about it) then why not tell them to go f*ck themselves. Hardly the end of the world. People need a sense of humour sometimes.

Also Simon is a HUGE SW fan, always has been just like you and me. I hate what was done in the PT also but I'd still jump at the chance of being involved in some level (Not that anybody would ask me to do a voice lol). Nothing hypocritical about that.

Plus just for that hilarious scene from Spaced where Simon burns all his SW memorabilia after seeing TPM (Perfectly capturing the pain of a generation) means I'll forgive him almost anything ;-) *

RE: Simon Pegg

I don't know.

STID is pretty bad, maybe not as bad as Insurrection or Generations but close to Star Trek V (which had more in it that i enjoyed).

Calling people clowns or worse isn't really the right thing to do.

People may work hard and have the right intentions and fail.

Some people may not try too hard and accidentally create a genuine masterpiece of lasting value.

At the end of the day taste is subjective.

RE: Simon Pegg

STID is nowhere near the worse Trek film, but you only had to see the commotion coming from Trek fans when JJ was announced as the Director of Ep7. All the stupid little muppets were going to say STID was terrible even if it was one of the best just because they feel that he has "betrayed" Trek for doing Star Wars. After seeing all this crap on facebook and twitter after it was announced you can see the real reasons why it was voted as the worse at by these fans.

But it's the same with certain SW fans to towards Pegg. Just because he was vocal at his hatred towards the PT they call him a hypocrite because he worked on the Clone Wars. He's not a bloody hypocrite at all. The Clone Wars was more like the OT than ANY of the PT films and that series was much better done. You can love that series yet still hate the PT. Just because it is set in that era doesn't mean to say it is anything like it. Plus he was also playing a character from the OT and NOT a PT character.

RE: Simon Pegg

It's sectarianism pure and simple.

If the PT had been as good or even better than the OT there would still be an OT/PT schism of some kind just because there is a line to stand either side of.

You see with games consoles, computer operating systems, sports teams, bands of the moment, methods of government, countries, religions etc.

It's a universal constant of history.

How far or near the latest Star Trek film is to being the worst film is subject to taste which is subjective but it was nowhere near as good as the previous one was being sold but there again professional film critics are a clique too.

For me, I was irritated more by the fact that he very publicly insulted George Lucas, but was more than happy to then go and work for him.  As for ST, has he even attempted to understand why someone might view ST:ID as the worst ST movie? I guess it's just easier to tell them to 'f*ck off'. He is entitled to his opinions. I just think he should be a bit more careful about what he says and the way he says it.

I've said things about companies and people I have later worked for that could be described but some as insulting.

So what?

Is there a list of his public insults directed at the man Lucas?

All I can remember is a character he played voicing views I agree with about The Phantom Menace and the man himself commenting on the idiotic changes made to the blu-ray sets.

I personally would feel happy to say those things to anyone who cared to hear me and work for Lucas.

Indeed going by how Gods damned hot Lucas looks I'd have sex with him while telling him these things and take payment afterwards (but I doubt if his wife or my better half would let that happen).

So?

The PT sucked absolute balls. Why not slag them off and their creator? At OT.com we do that all the time.

I've only caught bits of the Clone Wars here and there, and really have never had much interest in watching it, but it seems like a solid animated kid's series. From all accounts I've heard from fellow PT bashing SW fans, it is really well done and enjoyable.

If I were an actor, I certainly wouldn't have turned down the opportunity to do the voice of a well known OT character like Dengar!

I don't see how his dislike of the PT and the direction Lucas has taken Star Wars should make him some sort of sell-out for working on the Clone Wars.

Also, I really disliked Into Darkness, I don't know about the worse Star Trek film, but it was pretty terrible. Simon Pegg can tell me "fuck you!" for my opinion on that film, I still love him. Who cares?

Not really sure how you think he is alienating his target audience. Most of the fans who voted Into Darkness the worst Trek are probably fans of old Trek and hostile toward J.J. Trek in the first place.

People get way too bend out of shape and obsessive over the things celebrities say. Who cares what he says or how he says it? Just because he is famous, does that mean he loses his right to an opinion?

Star Trek ID isn't the trek movie, that honor belongs to Star Trek V

I think fans have the right to care when someone tells them "fuck you!"

how is it not alienating his target audience, when tells Trek fans "fuck you!" and plays Scotty?

that is no reason to tell them "fuck you!"

he has the right to his opinion, just don't expect fans (who buy the tickets and merchandise and whatnot that pays his salary) not be offended when he says something offensive.

A popular choice I know but Generations and Insurrection are worse in my opinion.

I'm not that keen on any of the Next Generation films but those two were truly awful.

that is no reason to tell them "fuck you!"

There aren't many good reasons for swearing at people you don't know.

He is only human and I notice humans do that sort of thing.

Pegg wasn't telling Trek fans "fuck you," he was telling those who voted it the worst "fuck you." I would've done the same thing, and I didn't even work on the movie.

even so, I don't think I'd say something like that to the people that pay my salary.   No fans buying the tickets, Dvds, blu rays, other merchandise,  Pegg don't get paid.

I wouldn't be worried about a group with such unusual priorities. They put some good glorified TV episodes in their top three list of great Trek films. Though I know I'm not one to talk, I rate the films for pure personal entertainment value. #1 TVH: I got some hearty laughs and some good chuckles in what I thought was a terrific send-off for the TOS crew.  #2 ST09 A great rip-roaring reintroduction to an alternate TOS universe.  #3 TWOK Managed to achieve the level of a true cinematic space opera.

They don't pay his salary. Paramount pay a contractually agreed amount for the Star Trek gig. The 'fans' have nothing to do with it. It's also a bit hypocritical for the FOADmeister to suggest cutting his salary for swearing at strangers he doesn't agree with.

RE: Simon Pegg

People who say that Into Darkness is the worst Star Trek film ever have obviously never seen Nemesis. Or Generations. Or Star Trek 11. Or Final Frontier. Pegg just said his opinion, he could say it in a more "press friendly" way but still it's just his opinion.
