I am ready for the trials!
Just for fun, share a real world location that could easily be used as a setting in the sequels. I'll start with the capital city of Brazil, Brasilia...

The one who keeps all of your secrets! It sort of looks a little bit like Starfleet Academy.
I bet they'll do some filming in Tunisia.

Magister Pontifex Maximus...obviously.
For a different take on dessert terrain how about Utah:

For new places there is the suitably alien :
Kliluk Lake:

Socrotra Island :

This crystal cave in Mexico:

The catacombs of Paris :

Change the buildings and these slate cliffs at Blaenau-Ffestiniog look other worldly.

Maybe the best way to bury the past is to charge at it.

I am ready for the trials! Those are some awesome locales, Bingowings! Isn't that crystal cave deadly hot inside though?
There's a privately owned Hawaiian island (whose name escapes me at the moment) that has some Martian landscapes I don't think have been in any movies.

That has to be a joke, right? Dr. Who filmed in just about every quarry in the U.K. back in the day, or so it seemed. ;)
It will be interesting to see what studio is used.
It also occurred to me they might film inside Star Tours just as an inside joke.

Background plates could be filmed in there for the cast to be dropped in via green screen.
It would probably be easier to use it as inspiration for a practical or virtual set though.
Some of these houses are pretty amazing.

Jedi KnightWherever they get tax incentives to make it cheaper probably. Hopefully not Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.
Although maybe some filmed in England on sound stages, not sure if they are still there after all these years.
I mean the full intact stages they filmed the originals on.

Jedi KnightToo many cheap movies and tv shows are done in Canada. New Zealand is lord of the rings and hobbit used.
Not sure why i listed Australia.

That doesn't mean they have to be cheap.

I can understand this one. I know NZ is very small, I'm not sure how much variety there is in terrain.
Not sure why i listed Australia.

I think the answer is obvious.
Rule #1- No Pooftahs!
Have you seen 3PO?
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

If memory serves Lucas and Spielberg tried to save them but thanks to Thatcher (if in doubt blame Maggie) there is now a Tesco supermarket where the Death Star hanger bay used to be.
Maybe that's why The Sun suspects they will film near a British shopping centre.

Better a bad bomb than a bombadI really hope they use real filming locations... something Abrams seems inclined to do.

Mexico's Yucatan is a treasure trove of awesome, otherworldly locations.

A cool pic I found of CGI architecture on real (Brazilian) locations.

And lets not forget using Bronson Cave, the Bradbury Building, and Vasquez Rocks.

I am ready for the trials!Vasquez Rocks is probably my favorite movie location. It's famous for the Kirk vs. Gorn fight in Star Trek of course.
There's a cool house in L.A. they could use, if people have forgotten it was in Body Double. ;)

With some matte work, I see New Alderaan, capital of the New Republic.

See You, Space Cowboy...I don't think the Chemosphere would fit in Star Wars, personally. I've always wanted to get my way up there, though. Vasquez Rocks is a little too distinguishable for it as well... but maybe that's just because I saw it on a matte shot in Power Rangers one too many damn times.

Just a simple manI hope to see grungy, dirty locations. Everything in the prequels is too pretty and perfect.
Let's see more of that underworld. I've been checking some of the "safe for work porn" subreddits. Some great shots of villages, cities, countrysides, etc. in those pages.
One setting we haven't had in a SW movie yet - A CEMETERY. Shmi's grave doesn't count. Sorry I don't have specific names or locations - just a general environment idea.

Another idea - a gold mine!

I am ready for the trials! You could easily bluesreen the windows and use the interior though. (Lando's personal hideaway?) Vasquez Rocks was used for Vulcan in Trek '09 with a lot of CGI tweaking. The movie used a lot more real locations and interesting buildings than most people realize.
Lest we forget, the Lars' moisture farm is a real hotel in Tunisia. ;)
I admit I chuckled when Zordon's HQ turned up on a Star Trek TNG episode though.
