He's always been. The impression I get is that he's basically like one of the guys from TFN, whos world would shatter if Lucas was shown to be less than a god. Steve Sansweet has his head so far up George Lucas' ass he could probably see Rick McCallum's feet.
I know I'm a bit late but didn't we used to have a post of the week thread?
Because if it's still around (and I have looked) I'd have nominated that one.

Jedi KnightSpent the night converting the raw photos from the Technicolor screening to correct the perspective. I shrunk them by 50% in size as well, so instead of 10mb they are about 1mb, but they should still fill your screen.
Some choice examples:

See http://savestarwars.com/technicoloribscreening.html for more. I didn't do the complete photo collection though. Maybe one day.
Puggo: Thanks a lot for the advice. This is exactly the sort of stuff I am hoping to sort out by posting the work-in-progress here and getting feedback. Of course, the main page I sort of threw together and always planned on re-working, but probably the text would have been on similar lines to the way it is now. I'll keep your post in mind when I go through and start editing.

I'll have to see if I can find it in the library some time.
If you don't have it on hand that's cool don't worry about it.
Oh, University of Toronto library has it, I've checked it out three times in the last year, I just have to find the time to go down and find it in the mazes of book stacks.

I am ready for the trials!Zombie, thank you so much for starting this site (and everything you've put up on it so far)! The article about the film materials is outstanding. Can we look forward to a similar one covering the other 50% of the movies, the sound mixes?

Hey Zombie,
I mentioned the site in the comments for a SW related article at ScreenRant, so hopefully that'll help bring some traffic.

I am ready for the trials!Zombie, I was reading your article on the history of the SE and I have a question (or two):
I've always assumed that when Lowry said they were working at 1080 resolution that they were actually talking about what we all think of when we hear the words "1080p" and "HD," in other words a 16:9 image with a resolution of 1920:1080. Not all movies have a 16:9 aspect ratio. A couple hundred of those 1,080 lines have to be sacrificed in order to fit a scope film such as Star Wars. I'm assuming then that when Lowry said they were working at HD res on Star Wars, what they really meant was 1920:817 for the actual 2.35:1 image itself. Would this be correct?
Also, AOTC and ROTS were shot with 16:9 1080p cameras and cropped to 2.35:1, making the resolution 1920:817, right? But were the effects also rendered at such a low resolution (in theatrical exhibition terms) or were they done at 2K? If they were done at 2K, then I really wouldn't be surprised if Lucas redoes the '04 restoration. Remember, Gone with the Wind and Wizard of Oz were also restored at 1080 that very same year and for the very same purpose, only to be redone at a much higher resolution just a few years later.

Zombie, have you managed to get those '77 in theater Belbucus photos? if not, you have four of them posted on this page:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Colortiming-Cinematography-was-What-changes-was-done-to-STAR-WARS-in-93/topic/9805/page/2/
And here's another one.

I would really like to see the rest of them though, if they even exist.
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Jedi KnightNo, did not get further pics from Belbucus. He hasn't answered my PM, but I don't think he frequents these boards too much anymore.
New page up:
http://savestarwars.com/specialeditionfail.html
As usual the text and formating are not final. But leave feedback about general flow, if I missed anything, if anything needs to be added or corrected, or if there are better examples. I kind of struggled to express how the crushed black levels work, I don't know if that comes across clearly. There was a really good page explaining about the evils of crushed blacks with reference to photography and the SE but I've forgotten it. I'm also not sure if the page is rambling and unordered, I tried to be thorough and progress logically from one issue to the next.

Jedi KnightYeah, I am re-editing it right now actually. I was thinking of photoshopping out the circle, but I didn't want to be seen as "tampering" with the image. Maybe it would be a good idea though.
Any suggestions on where to cut down on stuff?

is automatic for the people. It is hard to say where I would trim. I like and don't like the personal tone of the article. If readers detected sarcasm, it might both rally the like-minded, but may turn off the reader that is on the fence of the issue. Just my 2 cents.
And 1-3 examples of the audio errors is confusing. You do list three things, but they are lumped together. You ought to separate them more or just list them under 1.

Padawan LearnerThis is a tricky topic when it comes to trying to preach beyond the choir, ("it looks so much better and more colorful now, how can it be a mistake?"). One suggestion: to me, the most striking thing is that before and after image of the stars disappearing, I would lead with that, right at the top. That, and lots of before and after lightsaber pictures, they speak the loudest. That pink 2004 saber next to the proper 1980 one is an image even a kid can understand.

What's even more strange about that "Amatuer photoshop edition" is that I can't remember any magazines or major review sites on the web complaining about those horrible glitches at the time of its release, quite the opposite, they praised the beautiful transfers as reference quality, a sort of bar had been set for other releases to top. You have to wonder if they had actually been paid by Lucasfilm to shut up. With that many glitches, in fact all that can go wrong did, you can only hope it was done with purpose by people working on Lucasfilm that didn't like these versions. ;) Becase if Lucas did actually personally oversee this, he must be blind. We original trilogy fans is treated like shit, but I actually think the '04 transfers are even worse, I didn't think that was possible. :)

Jedi KnightZombie i read your article on the 2004 special edition and it is just plain embarrassing they passed off those mistakes as "deliberate creative decisions"
The part about the emperor's new clothes looking so good made me laugh out loud, because it is too true of later day Lucasfilm sycophants.
It is even more pathetic of Lucasfilm when you realize a fan like adywan corrected a lot of the 2004 mistakes in his revisited a new hope.
A multi billion dollar corporation with more computing power than NASA cannot get a set of DVD's right, but a fan with a home computer and simple off the shelf software can.

Wow reading what that link said wow! I think George Lucas is a total senile jerk now.
Well I guess will just have to makes hundreds of copies from the early widescreen laserdisc editions and post them all over youtube like wildfire to piss Lucas off. LOL
The originals is where Lucas made his money from us "the original STAR WARS fans". I guess that must have slipped his mind because he become his own worse greedy f$*king fat ass enemy and he doesn’t what to share with the other children. What a selfish bastard he’s become.
If it weren’t for us STAR WARS would be nothing.

I think it would be good to remove all sarcasm, I think it's fine and actually not very heavy in sarcasm, but since a lot of people use whatever they can against this case, "they're just fanboys whining" and the sort , it might be best to be as clear and direct as possible, without any trace that could be considered an insult.
