Doesn't know how to handle his new-found fameI hope he doesn't mind me speaking for him a little, but I know Zombie's been pretty busy & just hasn't been able to work on the site (same reason he went for some months without posting here). And there is another update that should be coming soon but I'll leave it to Zombie if he wants to say anymore.

The Humdinger Glitch, the new exciting novel from Robert Ludlum

Jedi KnightYeah, there is a really big update coming in a few days, I'm still porting over some files since I just replaced my computer. To be honest, there hasn't really been a lot to report the last couple months other than anything to do with the 3D release, and any relevant links/comments will be with the next update anyway.

"darth endeor was a meanyhead" - FatherSkywalker, et al--QFTI know you're busy, but I'd love an update on the various preservation projects; that page is quite out of date and a lot has happened, and I've always wanted to read the various advantages and disadvantages of different ongoing projects...but only when you've got the time :)
The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit. Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

http://pastebin.com/ allows you to post text and set when the page will expire. (10 min, 1 hour, 1 day) So if the post doesn't require pics, this is an option without giving away the final page location.

After this sentence:
The staff at the library did, however, inform me that there was a copy of Star Wars and one of each sequel in their copyright depository vaults, donated not long after their first release
I would add direct links to the Library of Congress records for the Star Wars films:
1977 - Star Wars : http://lccn.loc.gov/96512247
1980 - Empire Strikes Back : http://lccn.loc.gov/96512208
1983 - Return of the Jedi : http://lccn.loc.gov/96501520
1997 - Star Wars A New Hope Special Edition : http://lccn.loc.gov/97510343
1997 - Empire Strikes Back Special Edition : http://lccn.loc.gov/98502262
1997 - Return of the Jedi Special Edition : http://lccn.loc.gov/2006642053
1999 - The Phantom Menace : http://lccn.loc.gov/99468631
2002 - Attack of the Clones : http://lccn.loc.gov/2002636427
2005 - Revenge of the Sith : http://lccn.loc.gov/2005644161
2008 - The Clone Wars : http://lccn.loc.gov/2008636030
This way people can see for themselves the dates of submission and other tidbits to verify what you are writing.
There's a pic of Star Destroyers, might want to caption what that image is. Especially if it's not from the LoC. Assuming it's to show a 35mm print.
Thanks for the mention.
In canofhumdinger's writings:

there's an extra space in there.
on this topic:
but I should mention that I'm no expert on the credits and didn't even know there were different versions of the original credits until very recently. [ed: as originaltrilogy.com members have uncovered recently, there are at least two different versions of the end credits on different prints, and possibly a third.]
if you would like to point them, link them to this thread:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Credits-Leaders-Thread-was-Star-Wars-Pre-Re-release-Credit-Change-June-77/topic/12960/
To help out the LoC effort. Maybe a sentence at the end noting that for every frame there is in Star Wars there are miles of other films seeking preservation. Our society has been short changing much of our culture.
Great read, glad to see some people come forward with their experiences.

I am ready for the trials!Great article! The tidbit about "Matt" having worked on an early telecine that may have been the "HBO version" is interesting, since there's a fan preservation project of that ongoing around here.
It's sad to see their copy of Empire is that faded. I would have expected Star Wars to be the problematic one.
Lucasfilm's continued negative attitude towards screenings of the original version, even in an purely academic/historical context, is enough to make my head implode.

Agree, truly disgusting behaviour.
Great and uplifting article, and a fine job of everyone involved. Nice to know that the works of Kaminski have helped things moving. :)
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Son of the SunsVery good article and interesting read. At least they are being preserved in some way which makes you feel better but at the same time, sad. I also liked that they'd rather show BTTF than any SW film in Special Edition, haha.
On a related subject, they showed a clip of SW in the Oscars when they showed great movie history moments and of course, it had to feature DS battle and CGI shots... sigh. At least they could have shows something that wasn't changed.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I am ready for the trials!Probably the only clip that wasn't on some old analog tape the Oscar people had access to. It would be like dropping VHS footage into all the HD stuff, if they were aware of the SE changes at all.

I know, but they could have chosen some other scene than the CGI X-Wing and TIE fighter battle, maybe a dialogue clip or something. It was like "here's some great scenes from old classics" and bam, CGI in 70's film.

Has a smile 12 parsecs wideGreat article, zombie84. Even if there are still legal hurdles ahead in terms of what can be done with the hi-def preservations, at least the OT will be preserved, which is a huge step.
